Re: Playing Etruria - How?

No need to keep stressing about reassigning generals at the last minute, I'm well aware of the penalty. That's not the issue. Problem is, I never seem to have time to gain experience for my Heavy Infantry before Rome declares war, and they get crushed in spite of all the defensive bonuses. The more ...

Re: Playing Etruria - How?

Ah, "hire local troops"? That must be the difference. Over the weekend, I did another Etruscan run, split the army at the start (both Heavy Infantry and most of the good stuff sent north, with a few light troops left to hold the capital) and conquered Liguria. I added a few more skirmisher...

Re: Playing Etruria - How?

What I fail to understand is how you kept the Romans from declaring war until turn 24. None of my attempts lasted more than about 15-18 turns.

Re: Playing Etruria - How?

If you are playing in a MP game, you are screwed. Any half competent human as Rome will beat the poop out of Ertruria. If you are playing Single Player game, then all is not lost. It is not easy, but it is possible. The key is to have one defensive general who is at least 0-1, and give him a proper...

Re: Ideas for Next Patch

Would it be possible to increase the likelihood of some of the more critical initial structures, such as palisades? I've had regions without a single option to construct a palisade for 20+ years of frequent raiding from multiple directions, and there was nothing I could do to stop it, other than by ...

Playing Etruria - How?

After a couple of "educational" campaigns either as Rome (played until reaching #1 Legacy and top 5 Culture spots before restarting) or else places far from Rome, I decided to re-try the Etruscans. My earlier efforts all ended in obliteration as soon as Rome took an interest in my cities. ...

Re: Naval Units Carrying Land Units

If you merge your troops with your navy, the removal of the land general means that your troops will suffer a -1 penalty to the new general's skills for a turn after landing and assigning a general. That's bad for a contested landing where you're fighting one turn without any general's modifiers, th...

Re: Naval Units Carrying Land Units

Naval units don't carry land units. The land units BECOME naval transport units if/when you assign them an overseas destination, but they're extremely vulnerable to actual warships, so you may need to escort them.

Re: Double Walls

There are buildings which reduce Decadence, as well as ones that create it. You gain a base amount of Decadence each turn for the number of Provinces and Regions you control, and it decays by 10% per turn, but an entire Province seems to generate less Decadence than the sum of its individual Regions...

Re: Another Question From Newbie

As pointed out, you would not only need to use the trade overlay to see the province's own inherent resources, but to click on the province as well, to see what resources it produces through buildings. I'm not absolutely positive whether relations between client-state and protector have an effect on...

Re: How do you set objectives?

For me, once it finishes the list of pre-selected objectives, I pretty much ignore the objectives unless it accidentally hands me something achievable. In all but one or two cases, there was no practical way to accomplish them without overextending into territory I could not reasonably expect to tak...

Re: How do you set objectives?

.... Some might feel easy to capture though, that's mostly the ones provided by an historical list. The game tries to walk 2 paths here, one is to provide historical objectives, one is to provide difficult to reach objectives. Sometime it does feel odd ... Now, 30 regions away, that's strange. Perh...

Re: A poll on faction presentation

The historical background is fine, in my opinion. It gives you a reasonably quick summary, and if you want more detail, there's always the internet. The game background is often overshadowed by the randomized stats and starting buildings, to the point where I've played a typically "doomed"...

Re: Field of Glory Empires will give I:R run for money!

That's a conscious choice to have population produces something. This is the 'moving part' of production, allowing you to switch production from resource A to resource B, while buildings can't be changed (just destroyed and then rebuilt). This allow your nation to have a partial, yet rapid, flexibi...

Re: Field of Glory Empires will give I:R run for money!

Granted, I'm still in the early phases of my second campaign (about 80 turns in), playing as the Etruscans. I had to become a client-state of Rome to avoid being crushed early on, but have risen into the top 10 in both Culture/Decadence and Legacy, with Rome leading in Legacy but far behind me in Cu...

Re: The Trouble With Latium...

The biggest issue, from what I can see, is clear in the screen shot of the original post: there are FAR too many population units in Food production. I could see at least 13 dedicated to it. That will INEVITABLY cause overpopulation pressure and revolt risk in the long haul. You want some pop units ...

Re: Field of Glory Empires will give I:R run for money!

I love both games. But there is zero doubt which one is (while the Steam charts doesn't provide full data (as both games can be played outside Steam too), the numbers there are very clear) and will be more popular. I:R is an easy game for the masses to play and you can learn by doing, while FOGE is...

Re: Field of Glory Empires will give I:R run for money!

I recently picked up both FoG:E and I:R on sale at GOG, and am currently dabbling with both. FoG:E is clearly the easier game to learn, relatively intuitive, and more "fun" in my opinion. I'm starting to think that I:R is going to end up as the more "realistic" and deeper "s...

Re: Imperator: Rome vs Field of Glory: Empires?

I know FOGE did better than Imperator at launch, but with updates, patches and content being added, which seems to be a better purchase for the long run? Which of the two is more polished, with stronger AI and immersive campaigns? Right now, FOGE is more polished and has more options, but I:R will ...

Re: Steam and GOG Release

I'd repurchase CoW as a download, if it were available on GOG. My game CD won't run under Windows 10, like any other game with on-disc copy protection, so I've bought digital download copies of most of my old games. I had issues with Steam, years ago, and won't deal with them again. My bigger wish w...
