Re: 2019 Tournament

SnuggleBunnies (French) defeats fikabo (Spanish) 5-52 Having lost my match as the Spanish, I feel the pain. The Spanish just don't have enough units to go around, and the Impact Foot of the French go a long way toward mitigating the large unit size advantage of the Spanish. SnuggleBunnies: 12 fikabo...

Re: 1660+ Horse

Sure, feel free. And yes, I would say the shock horse have an edge overall, though skilled play can mitigate their advantages.

Re: 1660+ Horse

I mean... it's a pretty broad question. The range of types is quite diverse. Off the top of my head: Encompassing a wide range of quality and armor: Carbine / Pistol (Melee) Carbine / Swordsmen Bow / Swordsmen Pistol (Impact) / Pistol (Melee) Impact Horse / Pistol (Melee) Going into the uses of all ...

Re: Cracking an enemy unit by shooting it to death...

There are no quick indicators, but you'll get a good feel for it just by playing. If you want to know the actual calculations involved, see pg 42 of the pdf manual.

Re: How can you beat Macedonians with Indians?

It's definitely a hard matchup. I like to grab all the chariots I can, to pelt the Macedonian support troops with arrows. The Light Chariots try to get behind and flank, the Heavy Chariots use their status as Shock troops to ZoC the Macedonian line and slow its advance, forcing cohesion tests when t...

Re: I've struggled hard to like this game...

Come on guys, There is no need to be unpolite to each other. I disagree with Martyn (aka Cunningcrain) but I know whatever he says he does because he loves the game and the community since FoG1 times. Thanks for the kind words Kostas! Snugglebunnies for some reason thought I was talking about him "...

Re: I've struggled hard to like this game...

This game is a paradise compared to the battle mechanics of Rome Total War. LOL! Thanks for the heads up. I love this game and all the iterations, including the TT rules sets that RBS and his team have been involved with. Every single one had initial teething problems but there was always acceptanc...

Re: I've struggled hard to like this game...

Alex, your perception of a difference between the two is simply wrong. Pike and Shot does use the exact same calculations. If you're seeing a discrepancy, it's because of the type of troops being used - 1) Many FoG2 armies have lots of troops of Superior or higher quality, who pass more tests. 2) In...

Re: The development of firearms and proximity to nomads

1) The -100 POA I believe is to simulate the slow reload rate against moving opponents. However, keep in mind that Bows suffer from reduced effectiveness vs armor. Crossbows, being loaded somewhat quicker than Arquebuses, get -50POA vs cavalry, but ignore armor and of course can fire at long range f...

Re: Hidden Enemy Troops Rallying

I prefer things as they are, as sight lines etc. would be too complex, and I don't want players to feel like they have to watch those rout % like a hawk. As a compromise, perhaps rallies to Disrupted and Steady could be hidden if out of sight. It wouldn't really make logical sense, but that way a pl...

Re: The Rally Point (discussion and questions)

edb1815 echoes my thoughts with the mention of the moral factor. As for the idea that the flanks of a line 100 men across and 10 men deep could just turn to face the enemy, mitigating the effect of the flank attack - I would be interested in multiple historical examples of such an action. After all,...

Re: The Rally Point (discussion and questions)

I'm posting mobile right now so more later, but imo flank attacks are vital to both gameplay and historicity, and should not be touched.

Re: Streams

There are multiple types of streams. Some simply cost more AP to move across and count as not open, some cause disorder. Mouse over them with detailed tooltips enabled and the game will tell you.

Re: Unit Costing Anomalies

1) I highly recommend RoP, it's great fun 2) The mixed units are arguably a lot more cost effective than is perhaps right given that they can successfully charge and slaughter massed archers, can repel cavalry (though not heavy chariot) charges with ease in open terrain, and can often outshoot caval...

Re: Crecy 1346

I've played one MP match as the French. I won through an admittedly ahistorical cautious advance with knights on the flanks and covering fire from the crossbowmen. I look forward to giving it a try as the English.
