Re: Elephants vs light javelinmen

No player is going to trundle into range of javelinmen when they can just charge them instead and expect to win light javelinmen should be able to keep their light spear bonus when fighting elephants in melee You can't just charge and win. Elephants have a movement range of 3. Light javs do, too. S...

Re: Early Middle Ages: winners post your results here . . .

Division A SnuggleBunnies (Anglo-Saxon) defeats NikiforosFokas (Byzantine) 66-33 The Imperial Varangian Guard and Klibanophoroi were unstoppable, inflicting terrible losses on the Saxon shieldwalls even when outflanked. The rest of the Byzantine army, however, couldn't stand up to the storm of spear...

Re: Heavy Weapon anti-armour effect revamp

I would not be totally opposed to a boost to Above Average with corresponding cost increase. Keep in mind they are on totally even terms fighting both Thureophoroi and Auxilia though. Maybe against auxilia (not sure about that) but they are inferior to thureophoroi on melee turns, which is why I do...

Re: Elephants vs light javelinmen

Light javelinmen are better at disrupting elephants at range than any other ranged troops, other than naphtha throwers. No player is going to be foolish enough to trundle into range of your waiting javelinmen with their +20% bonus for standing still. So you will have to run into range to get your vo...

Re: streams

Frankly speaking, I've found streams to be very unintuitive in this game compared to my previous wargaming experience. To me, it would seem logical that defending on the bank should give you a substantial advantage and being in the stream a disadvantage. However, in my experience is simply doesn't ...

Re: Heavy Weapon anti-armour effect revamp

Anything to make Rhomphaia less garbage. Worse unit for cost in the game hands down. Loses to significantly cheaper medium foot and still too poor quality/armour to take on any sort of cavalry unless defending on rough terrain or flanking (but again this is just as true of medium foot that cost 10 ...

Re: Difficulty Levels

In scenarios the difficulty changes the number of men fielded by one side or another. Since the exact numbers are never really certain, this isn't even necessarily ahistorical.

Re: Difficulty Levels

At the lowest level, you get more points and a slight boost to unit quality (ie, average units will be above average). The reverse at the highest difficulty. Otherwise, higher difficulty just gives the ai more points to spend.

Re: Fatigue

Fatigue is abstractly modeled already. These were men who marched all day carrying a lot of stuff - marching across 10 'squares' (600 meters) wouldn't wear them out. Fighting is another story, of course, but a lot of units don't engage in much fighting a lot of the time, standing and waiting in the ...

Re: Heavy Weapon anti-armour effect revamp

Hmm I guess I'm not sure how I feel about giving HW an advantage over similarly armored Spears from a unit to unit standpoint - 1) Did separately deployed units of mostly axemen even exist? Or were they always an attention grabbing minority of a largely spear armed unit? I'm thinking about the Spear...

Re: Heavy Weapon anti-armour effect revamp

A reduction instead of cancellation could be good, though it might require changing some unit costs. I think one of the main items of importance is making sure that, in a clash between two equally armored units in which only one has heavy weapon, that that unit still gets some benefit from wielding ...

Re: What do you hope to see added before Fog II ends?

For me: 1) Replays. To analyze my own play, share replays back and forth of particularly great games for learning and entertainment, and for casting. 2) Addressing the "lights blocking Fall Backs" trick 3) After FoG2 is done, presumably with Biblical, Crusades, Hundred Years War, etc., Pike and Shot...
