Re: 2018 Tournament

Oh yes, my apologies

SnuggleBunnies (Teutonic Knights) defeats ahuyton (German Peasants) 46-16

As ahuyton posted above,

SnuggleBunnies: 9
ahuyton: 1

Having been wrecked in my game as peasants, I feel the pain.

Re: Share some unique/strange tactics that you came up with!

I do strongly support mouser's ideas for ending the tactic of using lights to block fallbacks/pushbacks. It is maximum cheese. Which is not to say I don't use it myself right now, but I do so because not doing so would disadvantage me. It would be better if this trick simply didn't exist.

Re: 2018 Tournament

SnuggleBunnies (Cossacks) defeat ahuyton (Russian) 28-59

SnuggleBunnies 9 pts
ahuyton 2 pts

A hard matchup for the Russians, I think, due to the vast numbers of cheap Cossack infantry.

Re: Buff for heavy weapons ?

So you would be suggesting that armor negation be toned down, but heavy weapons' anti cavalry abilities be increased then?

Re: Buff for heavy weapons ?

I have to second that Courtrai really doesn't make the case for heavy weapons, as the Flemings also were armed with spears and crossbows, but more importantly, it made the case for "don't charge your cavalry through a ******* swamp." And yes, the whole idea that a Europe had a scientific professiona...

Re: Buff for heavy weapons ?

This is an issue that has come up in a number of other threads, but I think some of the posters here are looking at things from a Grunt's Eye view, while the game was explicitly designed from a top down perspective. Maybe the Romphaia was useful in attacking horsemen 1v1, but since an infantry unit ...

Re: Field of Glory II Tournament Suggestions

I mean, it's a mirror match, and everybody gets the same map, so does it really matter? Perhaps your post is more relevant to the Digital League?

Of course, Mandate of Heaven has more armies than Ming in Crisis, but I don't know if everybody has it.

Which is an additional good reason to have at least some reserves behind your front line - not a bad thing, I think.

Re: Pursuing through a primary ZOC.

I envision is as: 1) The pursuers are intermingled with their fleeing foes. Amidst the dust, yelling, and general confusion, it can be difficult for nearby units to tell what's even really going on 2) The sight of a friendly unit breaking and fleeing into rout can be stunning and paralyzing 3) Most ...

Re: My big issues with this game

I think the balance vs light cav is fine. Slingers and archers often lose impact and cohesion test; light javs can defend themselves and do better in that situation.

Re: 2018 tournament ending thoughts about the next

I am happy to play whatever, really. I do generally prefer set ups where all the players use the same set of armies, where we each play one side, as we did in this tournament. As for teams vs individual - while the teams are fun, it is rather hard to balance as we don't have players in divisions as ...

Re: Favorite Army

Terrain is key, and English armies do very well against armies not based on pike keils. But you did say favorite armies, not best armies; I just enjoy playing with them, even though they are rather bad.

Re: My big issues with this game

The thing is, the AP and turn system are simply not based on the idea that a turn is a set amount of time, or that a unit's actions are constrained by a set unit of time. Instead, the game system is supposed to help create those massive, sudden turns of fortune that decided a battle. If unit actions...

Re: Favorite Army

It would be impossible for me to pick one favorite, but a few standouts - The early English lists with their mix of bows, bills, and arquebus Russian lists, with Bardiche and Arquebus armed Streltsy acting as an anchor for Bow armed, armored cavalry, supported by lance and bow armed cossack light ho...

Re: untrained Peasant Rabble

I could give you a more detailed answer if you like, but if you like Sengoku and FoG2, you'll love Pike and Shot too. It's 60% off right now, a more than reasonable $16, especially considering Slitherines past reluctance to do deep discounts.
