This was to boost catas a bit in general, and to reflect their seeming tendency to engage rather more willingly in extended melees than other cavalry. Knights don't need the boost frankly, and in any case seemed to charge in and out quite often.

Re: HYW French campaign opening battle
That is literally what I did and got the 36/57 timeout. Not to be rude, but I really doubt that RNG alone can account for an 8 turn and 30 rout % difference. For force comp, I maxed out on massed missile units and ribauds, and only then grabbed a few maa. I immediately dismounted all of my maa, tho...

Re: A new capability: Pole Arms
Yup, and thus if you switched out 20% HW for 20% polearms it would be a purely cosmetic change.

Re: HYW French campaign opening battle
I don't normally do single player but I did the first 2 missions at difficulty 3 out of curiosity. First one was kinda messy but won it 45-15; mostly by spreading out enough to open up gaps, luring spears into the rough and counter charging with knights, etc etc. Mission 2 I won on turn 16 42-5; re...

Re: A new capability: Pole Arms
I don't think it should matter at all if added to the existing pike units, as Lancer and Sword canceling as done by Spear/Pike units is already dependent on the units being Steady. If the 80% pike 20% HW unit is steady, it essentially acts as if it is 100% Pike, except with negating 10 Armor Advanta...

Re: Changes to artillery
There were gameplay and historical arguments in favor of this nerf; originally heavy artillery was removed from MP Open Battle entirely but that caused other bugs. Historically, such artillery was generally used in the defense of or assault on defensive positions, not open battle. Gameplay wise, he...

Re: Useful youtube guides
Thanks Jorgito, the series will continue but the next guide video won't post for a couple of weeks. I've recorded some tips on pursuit edge cases, and a brief guide to chariots. More unit guides will follow, and I think at some point I will need to delve into combat strength modifier. As you say th...

Re: The Byeongja Horan Campaign from Manchu Perspective: Overview, Strategy, and Lessons Learned
This spectrum ranges from units that prioritises damages to units that prioritises having a long engagement range. On the damage spectrum we have the musket+light gun units once again. I put these units here since, while they have a long range due to their light guns, light guns do minimal damage t...

Re: Why aren't Heavy Weapon troops considered Shock?
The problem I see with HW troops not being Shock is that it allows Impact foot to use Cavalry-like tactics against them, i.e., charges and retreats until a charge disrupts the HW troops. This isn't really the case though. Cavalry will automatically fall back from foot if they don't fancy the odds. ...

Re: Why Heavy Weapon troops are not considered Shock?
It gives Impact Foot the advantage: if impact foot is weaker in melee against Heavy Weapon troops, it will disengage and be able to charge again with its superior POA on the Impact phase. If it is stronger in Melee it just wins. Why should they be considered shock troops? Impact Foot are troops who...

Re: A beginners question
You can't see where the enemy is, but you do know what their army list is, and you can see the terrain. This is likely to determine some aspects of their deployment - for example, their cavalry is unlikely to be deployed with a large patch of rough ground to their front! If you are feeling unsure a...

Thanks a lot dear comrade, you helped me - and hopefully some other guys - a lot with that chat. I also appreciate the Excel-sheet and will play around with it. It might turn out, now that I have a couple of battles on my account - that the battles are a little bit too chaotic for my taste. Especia...

Re: Crossbow and arquebus/musket effectiveness vs cavalry
Namely the greater rate of fire of archers being useful engaging moving targets. But as you say, it can be somewhat evened out by the armor penetrating of arquebus/musket.

Re: FOG2 Ancient Open Beta v1.6.11 - changelog
Related to the more recent points chart - "-3 unit discount for 2-deep Warrior, Impact Foot, Swordsmen to allow for Unmanoeuvrability. Likewise Poeni Foot, who are Average, but whose Experience of 50 makes them Unmanoeuvrable." Should this apply to raw medium foot in general, who presentl...
