Re: POTZBLITZ V9.51 AUG23th 2019

Thanks most of all to you!

CTGW PotzBlitz is on my short list of games/mods I will gladly play. Unfortunately, I have little to no free time in the near to mid term to actually play it.

I still follow the mod's (slowing) progress, however.

Mod on!

Re: POTZBLITZ V8.11, MAR 1st

Here's an idea: Slitherine, Lordz, Robotron (and ?) join forces to develop and release a Commander the Great War Gold edition, with PotzBlitz totally integrated (not just the full Grand Campaign, but all of the shorter scenarios too). Maybe even a CTGW 2?! Slitherine should throw some money around i...

On the contrary, you have kept a game that was nearly dead, alive.
+1

Without PotzBlitz, I would have set the base game aside after the first few hours. PotzBlitz and the active if small community still playing the game have continued to sustain my interest.

In V8.0, the Schlieffen Plan is a nightmare to defend against.

Not looking for any advice or game play tips. Just sayin'.
Single- or multiplayer?
Single-player.

And probably not a very good single-player.

How soon do you anticipate releasing V8? I am ready to start a new game.

WWI Recommended Reading

Inspired by my recent purchase of CTGW, and to help immerse me in the game, I am now reading John Keegan's "The First World War" (Alfred A. Knopf, 1999). An even-handed account (doesn't focus on the British, for example), in broad detail the book explains the whys of the fighting and the overall con...

Re: POTZBLITZ V7.2 (suspended), DEC 17th

User reports broken PotzBlitz download here: http://grogheads.com/forums/index.php?topic=23213.msg639755#msg639755 I got the game after your recommendation and I'm glad I did. Have just started with it but seems to be a good WWI entry game. And it does look really good to boot. But the PotzBlitz mod...

Re: POTZBLITZ V7.1 (BETA), DEC 9th

Granted, much or most of the code you inherited. You can't be held accountable for the prior work of others. In any event, the proof is in the game play. In this, you have done a bang up job. I only purchased CTGW in this season's Matrix Holiday Sale. I had been eyeing this game for several years. G...

Re: POTZBLITZ V7.1 (BETA), DEC 9th

In my coding, I routinely use Emacs (my preferred code editor), the MS Visual Studio editor, and occasionally also (Cygwin/Linux) vi. With all that switching around, and with every editor having a mind and auto-format of its own, my code is a mess unless I take the trouble to fix the auto-indents an...

Re: POTZBLITZ V7.1 (BETA), DEC 9th

@Robotron: Have you considered running the Lua code through a Lua "pretty printer" (aka "beautifier")? (Of which there appear to be many available. I myself couldn't recommend any particular one.) Then distributing the reformatted code in the PB mod? Here is a random code snippet from the CTGW game_...

Re: POTZBLITZ V7.1 (BETA), DEC 9th

You guessed quite right with your notion about that scripted attacks. I chose to do things that way because the naval AI is rubbish and I just won't reverse-engineer the whole AI system for fear of going nuts. I'm curious. In your Lua debugging, do you ever (a) do variable dumps to log file(s) or (...

Re: POTZBLITZ V7.0 (BETA?), DEC 7th

At the Diplomacy tab, it seems that when you select CHOOSE EVENT, your Diplo budget dips by 6 pts or more, even if you CHOOSE NONE. That is, it seems you expend Diplo budget pts even just to take a peek at the available options, without in fact choosing anything. This has happened to me several time...

Re: POTZBLITZ V6.6 (BETA), NOV 30th

Thank you! I had seen the "Choose Event" button but didn't press it for fear I would commit to ... some single unknown default, the "Event" (?). I didn't realize that "Choose Event" was a gateway to a multiple choice pop-up. I got it sorted now. :)

Stupid questions: How does one make these diplomatic etc. choices I keep reading about? Where is the interface for this? I am confused, or failed to get the memo. :)

In PotzBlitz, which is the easier side to play? Which presents the greater challenge? What is the general consensus?

Re: POTZBLITZ V6.5 (BETA), NOV 13th

My, my, so much to like in PotzBlitz compared to vanilla CTGW. It really does feel like a different and decidedly better game. After toying with vanilla a bit, I had my doubts about continuing to play CTGW. Now, after experiencing Potzblitz, there is no turning back, I can foresee maybe playing this...
