Re: Dacian vs. Romans
Thanks fellows! Phil, thanks for the save. During the game, I looked right at the passage in the v2 book that says foot battle troops can sack a fortified camp. Skirmishers are listed as foot battle groups so I thought I was good to go. Today, I found on pg. 18 that skirmishers are not foot battle t...

Dacian vs. Romans
This was a tough and historical match-up. I face Roman armies all the time in our FoG group so, I painted up Dacians as my counter. How did it turn out? Take a look at the full write up on my blog here. https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-vFnwd8iDtaM/VCytbvVc8cI/AAAAAAAAGwI/V642cMzNsko/w1381-h865-no/...

Thanks Gozerius, I appreciate that. Running them as Galatians is fun, especially with all the Superior impact foot.

Re: Dacians on Parade
Thanks Matthew and Raven! And good point. Alive or dead, the Romans weren't too accepting of apologies from their enemies.

Dacians on Parade
Another army for our local FoG campaign. All Old Glory minis except for the camp. The Dacians are one of the best OG lines I've painted. Some historical background, painting discussion and pics up on my blog. The question is, how do they fight? After all this painting, I'm hoping they fight well! 24...

Re: "Did someone say the Spanish Inquisition?" Spanish Armie
Late Republican Romans are tough as nails. I hate facing them, and quite a few of the fellows in our group run them regularly. Since you like Marius and also the Germans, Teutones or Cimbri would be a great bunch to paint up. Good luck with the adventure!

Re: "Did someone say the Spanish Inquisition?" Spanish Armie
If you're doing all Spanish, all the time, check out Sertorius's Lusitanians list in Rise of Rome. It's drilled, medium foot, legionaries too. With v2, you can take 1/3 of your Lusitanian warriors as superior. Xyston has a great line of ancient spanish figs too. I really enjoyed learning about Serto...

Re: Classical Spartan army
The Baueda camp is inspired by the Spartan dokana. The upright pair of beams apparently symbolized Dioscuri (Castor and Polydeuces). I think the snakes represent twinhood as well. In Nick Sekunda's "The Spartan Army," pg 55 has a picture of the gravestone depicting a dokana with a spider a...

Classical Spartan army
This army had an unusual start. A fellow at Bartertown traded me his Old Glory Spartan starter army for a boardgame. In our FoG group, there are 4 Roman armies that beat on me regularly. After I put these fellows together, I realized they're the perfect antidote for all those Romans. If my superior ...

Re: Help building a 650 pt Dacian list
THANKS!!!! You can't imagine how helpful this is. I painted a BUNCH of archers and now I know I should base them up as MF for rear support to units in 12. Brilliant! I'll try two lists, one with a Samaritan ally and one without. I'll run MF units of at least 8 bases. I'll try 4 generals to start. Oh...

Help building a 650 pt Dacian list
I'm painting Dacians for a local FoG campaign, limited to Immortal Fire through Legions Triumphant lists. We're playing 650 point games on 5 x 3 tables. I'd appreciate help building a list before I base up my figures and then change my mind. 1. MF in 6 versus 8 bases. I'm taking Falxmen and J...

Re: A couple of questions about Dacians
Paul, I appreciate your honest opinion. If I do go forward with this, it will be knowing their shortcomings. Ian, I've worked up a draft list and like you suggest, the key parts are 24 bases of Superior falxmen and a Sarmation ally bringing in Lancer/Armored/Superior cavalry. In period, they're seco...

A couple of questions about Dacians
I'm thinking of a painting up Dacians. 1. Anyone have a pic of the Old Glory 15mm Falxmen? Xyston has Thracian Falxmen/Bastarne but I'd like to see what the OG look like before I decide which figures to use. 2. Most importantly, are the Dacians fun to run? It looks like 24 bases of Superior Heavy We...
