Re: Dealing with large numbers of light infantry

Thanks for the tips. Does the tip about shooting only two times have something to do with cohesion checks? I assume that means cohesion won't drop after you've tried a fixed number of times. About the distraction unit, it's not directly relevant to the Macedonian list but the cheap 15 point mobs are...

Re: Field of Glory II - The Wolves have arrived

Looking forward to Umayyads vs later Byzantines and later Sassanids. From the product page it seems that the Byzantines will finally have mixed units of melee troops and archers, which is great. The naffatun armed with bombs (?) will be interesting, I assume these will have far better shooting POA t...

Re: Dealing with large numbers of light infantry

Massed cavalry attack on one flank usually works best for me. Try to make the enemy evade into predictable direction, use the farthest possible units first so that the enemy wastes its evade and then attack them with the nearer units if possible. It's also good to have some light infantry and caval...

Re: Coordinating movements of separate armies?

That said, the game permits you to intercept and merge your armies together, so you can concentrate before a battle. You can also move from two adjacent regions to a third one and arrive at the same time. You can embark, move by sea, disembark, all in the same turn. So that's not that bad. Just the...

Re: Feature query

It is a bit of a shame not to include internal politics, but I imagine that would be very difficult to flesh out for factions other than the major powers. It just seems a lot of Rome's decision making was driven by the nature of their political system (e.g. seeking a premature battle in the First Pu...

Re: Please set the turn time to one season per a turn

I'm fine with the year long turns but it just seems that movement takes a bit too long for that scale. Wouldn't one be able to at least traverse the Mediterranean in a year? I suppose it could be justified as logistical preparation for moving to/invading an area, though perhaps movement should be in...

AI not sequencing flank attacks properly

Noticed that sometimes the AI would have two units, with one of them on the flank of mine. If they would sequence their attack to go in with the non-flanking unit first, then with the flanking unit, they would get a free cohesion drop. However quite a few times they don't bother doing that and are u...

Dealing with large numbers of light infantry

This problem doesn't come up at all in multiplayer but quite often in higher difficulty single player modes. Sometimes I face a particular army list that bring a staggering amount of light infantry (e.g. medium republican romans with velites, aetolians with light javelins). Unlike medium/heavy foot ...

Coordinating movements of separate armies?

I haven't played the game myself, but from the videos I've watched it seems that you can't have one army pick up another while moving, so you need to spend one year to stack them together then advance together the next year. Is this correct? If so, is this intentional or will it be fixed? Since the ...

Re: Field of Glory: Empires Dev Diary #9 Addendum - Playing Empires Battles in FOG2

Really excited for this! Good to know the Triarii will still be around. If not already planned, a method to preview the unit conversion from Empires to 2 before exporting would be nice. E.g. show the user that warbands-> italian foot, or legionaries->hastati+triarii, etc. I'm worried about how to se...

Re: How to play an Ottoman army (Great Turkish War)

Thanks for the tips. I've had some luck with my sipahis sitting on rough ground and shooting at enemy cavalry who don't dare to charge at them. Now that I've played some more battles the Janissaries are fine, I just never have enough of them. The army does feel like it heavily relies on rough ground...

How to play an Ottoman army (Great Turkish War)

I'm having some trouble trying to understand the Ottomans. The cavalry is poor at impact compared to both adversaries, and don't outnumber the enemy much. They can't evade either, so I feel like I'm doomed to shoot once then die. To rub salt in the wound, they're all paying for the useless Swordsmen...

Re: Field of Glory: Empires Dev Diary #9 Battle System

On a semi-related note, will there be any representation for the brilliant but rare military geniuses (e.g. Hannibal)? It seems generals are limited to 2-2 as their maximum rating, but perhaps special characteristics could make a general very good. Also, will historical leaders be included or will t...

Macedon 260-148 BC: Where did the lancers go?

Not a balance question, but a historical one. Why did Macedon lose access to Xystophoroi starting 260 BC? I've done some limited digging online but I haven't had any luck finding info about this. Did the Macedonians stop using lancers on purpose, and if so, why? Or did they become unable to recruit ...

Why is pike POA dependent on casualties?

Unlike most common melee/impact capabilities, pike gets chipped away at quickly through losses. What is the historical reason for this? If spearmen/swordsmen/impact foot get represented at full POA regardless of casualties, why not pike? Combat strength modifier already takes into account losses. Fr...

Unfortunately when dismounted they are undrilled heavy foot. So it won't help them avoid disorder in rough ground or forests.

How to edit strength multipliers for sandbox campaign and skirmish battles?

I know in custom campaigns you can set strength multipliers for units, which just changes what number of men is displayed.

Is there some way to make this happen for sandbox campaigns and skirmish battles?

When do you dismount lancers?

The Belisarius DLC has a lot of options to dismount cavalry, which is pretty cool. I'm not sure how to use dismounted lancers though. Since they're heavy offensive spearmen, my guess is that they might be able to protect bowmen and horse archers against lancer cavalry. But why not just use limitanii...

Re: Offensive Spearmen vs Impact Foot

Thanks for the clarification! So heavy foot losing to impact foot has a good chance of getting -2 modifier and medium gets -3? Those cohesion test modifiers are more important than I thought... It would be nice if the cohesion test info was in the tooltip in the form of having X% chance to drop enem...
