Re: Things we learned the hard way.

Light artillery do not always get destroyed easily - I charged a loose formation warband and general into a light artillery unit, and it didn't even become disrupted until the second round of combat

Re: Beginner's Guide Video Series

Indian archers come in two forms, the light infantry and the massed archers. The light archers can skirmish but they can't do a lot of things. Massed archers shoot at long range with the equivalent effect of light archers at short range, so unlike light archers their fire can be quite effective even...

Re: Elephants vs light javelinmen

No player is going to trundle into range of javelinmen when they can just charge them instead and expect to win
light javelinmen should be able to keep their light spear bonus when fighting elephants in melee

Re: Elephants vs light javelinmen

Historically the javelinmen were regarded as equally useful whether they hit the flanks or the front of elephants.

Re: Heavy Weapon anti-armour effect revamp

I would not be totally opposed to a boost to Above Average with corresponding cost increase. Keep in mind they are on totally even terms fighting both Thureophoroi and Auxilia though. Maybe against auxilia (not sure about that) but they are inferior to thureophoroi on melee turns, which is why I do...

Re: Elephants vs light javelinmen

Most of the time your javelinmen won't be in terrain unsuitable for elephants if they are trying to shoot at elephants so maybe they get one shot then charged by the elephants and the elephants hit them in the rear and destroy them after they evade. For instance, Zama was fought in open terrain. Ele...

Re: Heavy Weapon anti-armour effect revamp

Isn't the main point of the Rhomphaia unit to face off against more heavily armored Roman infantry? Maybe in-game but they don't do very well. They first appeared at least a century before the Romans did in their region, around the time that the Thureos came into general use in Hellenistic armies, ...

Re: Version 1.5.21 Update

Same for me, I can't download it from this page or from "my page" and the check for updates download (from the game menu) has never worked. I have been able to download previous versions before from here or from "my page" but now all I get is that the page cannot be reached.

Re: Elephants vs light javelinmen

In the past the theory was they would throw javelins then get out of the way of the elephants, then throw some more, as they were in a dispersed formation and did not present a solid target.

Elephants vs light javelinmen

Back in the good old days, light infantry with javelins were supposed to be the antidote to elephants (though it didn't always work, at least there was a chance it would do so). I'm wondering what is supposed to happen when elephants meet light javelinmen in the open, as all I have seen is that the ...

Re: Which Armies/Units would you like to see

One of the most spectacular armies would have to be the Aztecs. Then again, why not have some Zulus or Maoris? Well maybe we're not up to that time period yet, so I would ask for a fully armoured Getic noble cavalryman. Getae.jpg Another thing that hasn't been modelled is higher level fortifications.

Division D vakarr with Classical Thracian 680-461 BC plus Classical Greek Allies beat cromlechi - Egyptian 405-343 BC, 42 - 12 An interesting game where the Egyptians had a nice range of hills to occupy, just perfect for their army. The Thracians occupied one other giant hill and flank marched acros...

Re: Heavy Weapon anti-armour effect revamp

The Thracians with rhomphaia are rated as "protected" because they have a large shield, a helmet, and greaves, not just because they have shield. Other troops (such as your average barbarian mountain infantry or Spanish infantry) have less armour and get the same rating. I think their morale should ...

Division D vakarr with Classical Thracian 680-461 BC plus Classical Greek Allies beat SawyerK with Roman 199-106 BC army and Spanish allies 49-21. Re: Please don't make me come and get you.

If you don't want your opponent to run away from you and hide in suitable terrain, use a different army. For instance, if they are hiding on a hill then shoot them up with artillery and/or massed archers or horse archers. If your opponents are running away from you much of the time it might be becau...

Re: Classical Antiquity: winners post your results here . . .

Div D vakarr (Thracians with Greek Allies) def Kifi (Macedonians) 53-14 ("Final Losses") or 50-19 (end of battle). The Thracians marched up one side of the battlefield on top of a flat hill that had some patches of rough terrain on it and were able to gain a local superiority at one end of the Maced...
