Naval integration

For those hoping for some naval action in the game, or a naval variant... it seems it can be done with 15mm figurines (using different rules of course) https://misternizz.wordpress.com/2020/08/03/galley-warfare-another-fine-plague-project/?fbclid=IwAR1c-_Mi1IbcuvhOhZbz6rRl7MY5sqXfxEHdkt6gEN5ClTPjTID...

Re: Massed peltast +50% javelins

I know that Richard is dead against equipping Medium or Heavy Foot with javelins. I can't remember exactly why, but I think it is something to do with previous problems with other rule sets that had this feature. Yes, "too much like 6th or 7th edn WRG" but massed peltasts didn't work as well under ...

Massed peltast +50% javelins

Massed peltasts: protected medium infantry with light spear, 50% sword, and 50% javelins. (an alternative would be to make them bounce more often like cavalry if a charge failed) I've been trying out giving massed peltasts 50% javelin shooting in my updated Thracian campaign, and I think it works w...

Re: (Not So) Quick Questions Thread on Tactics

Now - this is important - routed elephant unit will cause cohesion test in friendly units in range of 2 squares. So if there is a fragmented unit in range - it will most likely break causing additional cohesion tests in friendly units. With a bit of luck this in turn may cause multiple morale drops...

Re: (Not So) Quick Questions Thread on Tactics

That's great, I had hoped that would be the case, it should happen in melee, too. Do light horse javelins also do better against elephants (so that it counter-acts being disordered to a greater or lesser extent)?

Re: (Not So) Quick Questions Thread on Tactics

Note that javelins are no more effective against elephants than other shooting weapons - not how it should be, but I asked about that a while back and was told no, there's no difference between javelins and bows when shooting at elephants - unless you shoot with something like Cretan Archers or Immo...

Iphicrates campaign updated

I have updated the Iphicrates campaign to use the latest models and units. Here is part 1 of a video about Iphicrates and this campaign. https://youtu.be/HxJaBMZ9duY Each battle has proved to be rather difficult, though it may not seem so judging by my initial scores. Nevertheless I was able to get ...

Iphicrates campaign part 1

This is part one of my series of reports on the Field of Glory 2 Iphicrates campaign. Each battle has proved to be rather difficult, though it may not seem so judging by my initial scores. Nevertheless I was able to get Iphicrates to beat the Spartans using an army of mainly peltasts and massed pelt...

Re: Campaign creation guide Part 1 (Setting up the Campaign)

How do you determine when a player will have to put units into garrisons? Does a player have to had put units into a garrison in order to be able to get reinforcements if you choose a reinforcement option?

Agesilaus Campaign updated, video available

I have just put up three videos about Agesilaus II and the Agesilaus Campaign, which has just been updated and can be downloaded from the Community Content section within the game (takes just a few seconds, as they are all text files). Part one is here: https://youtu.be/aF2YWLAv54M The new version o...

Re: (Not So) Quick Questions Thread on Tactics

Cavalry are vulnerable to shooting, so it might be possible to tempt the enemy cavalry into a killing zone, then shoot them up with much cheaper troops. Did that recently in a game where my best cavalry was average protected cavalry, and his best cavalry was superior armoured cavalry - moved my ligh...

Re: Elevation POA's

OK, thanks, I always thought that the more extreme the height difference, the greater the POA advantage, but that seems not to be the case once it's over 100. I've also seen it said that a difference of less than 50 meant a 0 POA difference.

Re: Skirmishers and command

I tried keeping a general back, attached to a light cavalry unit, in one game, in order to rally other units. I found that to be a waste of time, it is much more effective to have the general in the front rank, fighting, as then he affects combat and morale. Then if the general got into combat, he d...

Re: Skirmishers and command

You may find this video helpful https://youtu.be/F8O6s-LRcyU Skirmishers only benefit from being in a general's command if they are within a quarter of his command distance while that general is in combat (+1 in cohesion tests). It is a very bad idea to put a general with a skirmisher unit as the ge...

Re: (Not So) Quick Questions Thread on Tactics

Yes use the forest to guard the right flank and put your best troops and cavalry on your left flank, as Ludendorf said, smash the enemy infantry with your superior warbands, hold back your other infantry, and secure the left flank of your warbands with the cavalry. The terrain on your extreme left i...

Elevation POA's

I have seen different claims as to the effects of elevation on POA in the forums, has it changed from that printed in the manual, viz
height difference <= 75 gives +25 POA
height difference >= 100 gives 100 POA
