Re: Afrikakorps Mareth Line
I find the best defence against overwhelming airpower is good AA. Specifically, 88mm guns. I'd recommend two in your core, and station stuff around them so that it is protected (For bonus points they are also absolutely disgusting against enemy armour, especially if it suppressed.) Ideally sucker en...

Re: Tactical or Strategic Bomber?
Tac bombers for destroying armour in open terrain with near impunity, polishing off the last couple of bombers in a formation attacked by your fighters, after giving them the 'assist' bonus on their own attack, and sub hunting. Strat bombers for sinking ships, softening well-protected and dug in tro...

At what levels, what year and organisation? ie: What specifically are you looking for?

Re: Nation specific abilities in WWII
A rather stereotype-based idea, perhaps; and hence not overly relevant. For example: British good at fast evacuations...? Based on two strategic-scale incidents spread over the course of the war; so hardly something to build a special ability around. If it's going to be done, base it on actual opera...

Re: Soft Cap
Over strength is good...in the right place. Over-used it leeches your Prestige badly. Infantry invariably needs in-field reinforcement, so a point of overstrength is always worth it for them. Given that a point of in-field reinforcement is comparable in cost to a point of overstrength, it's best to ...

Re: Big discussion about strategy/tactics gaming morality
How can we be watching these movies morally? Because we are adults and can differentiate between a piece of entertainment and a massacre? Because we are not playing the game while fantasising about how great the SS were? Or because an intelligent person knows that seeing a story or piece of history...

Re: Yours favorite movies about WWII
so far a few surprising ones missing completely no Saving Private Ryan no Enemy at the Gates Both great films, but not 'fun' watching as they are both too good at what they do (portraying the horror of war) to be something I fancy watching on a regular basis. I have a soft spot for 'Sink the Biskma...

Re: Big discussion about strategy/tactics gaming morality
so people today say: "It's just a game!", like it is an excuse for any bad behavior possible! Playing a game is not 'bad behaviour'. Again, let's go back to how the game is 'bad' because one plays a high ranking Axis commander, yet would have been 'good' if the force was Allied? Seems a l...

Re: Big discussion about strategy/tactics gaming morality
I think you may be giving soldiers and servicemen too much credit as regards empathy. I know plenty of military guys who LOVE blowing the crap out of things in first person shooters.Musketeer wrote: It was ment like people who went through war dont play on it as far as I know. YMMV of course...

Re: Question: Buying new units
I like to buy up a variety of things and work their XP up so that if I lose something late-war, I'm not crippled with a rookie replacement. Although the game gives the player plenty of tanks, I found that I needed more:
SPAT for late war
AAA
Strategic bombers
Artillery. Lots and lots of it.

Re: [Axis Campaign] GTPG v1.15 (19/10/15)
Another try and still no luck. I have at least six units spread about and stationed in major victory hexes and all towns except the ones in Italy are captured. Units in area area by turn 17: SS mountain infantry 2x SS paras 3 SS artillery 1 SS AA 2x SS hvy infantry 1x captured K-3 Any other ideas as...

Re: Big discussion about strategy/tactics gaming morality
Excuses about "just being game" is popular, but psychology works same nontheless... If you create models of airplanes they will be governed by same physical laws and rules like big ones. If you see first killed soldier mate in front, it is terrible and break you for month, if you see hund...

Hmm.... Ran through the last half-a-dozen turns again and it's still not liking it; even when I have 10 German units in place at the end of the last turn, replacing the Romanians with another recon unit

Re: Big discussion about strategy/tactics gaming morality
I'm not [role]playing a nazi general; I'm playing a computer game. That's all it is. Not some fascist fantasy exploration. Would it actually be very much better from a moral standpoint to be [role]playing an Allied general? I would still be glorifying war, enjoying killing thousands of people, level...

Re: [Axis Campaign] GTPG v1.15 (19/10/15)
Another question: I'm currently finishing off Balkans '44. Things have gone stunningly well, save for the loss of an SE tac bomber unit. So on turn 17, I have seemingly wiped out every allied unit in the Balkans and captured every town, except those in Italy. I have ten core ground units sat on 'A' ...

Re: heroes on strategic bombers
Well I have been grooming this he111 but during most of gc41 i have been up against the experience cap limit. In previous scenarios I have saved all the ships for it e.g. the hague and crete airborne were quite good kill earners. I am up to 392 kills so I am due another hero, i already have an A+2....

Yes it is. It's called risk management.Yrfin wrote:lol.ptje63 wrote:Unexpecting events and to deal with them is part of the strategy.
Unexpecting events - is not part of strategy. Its a part of gambling games.

Re: heroes on strategic bombers
I tend to always maximum overstrength my strategic bombers, and have the very best type available. It's very expensive, but they shouldn't be taking many casualties anyway, so it's mainly about making the initial investment, then not unleashing them until the early rush of enemy fighters has been cl...

Re: Help, please: Hero stat-ups file location
Thanks; I'll slow the process down in the manner you describe, which will help me stay sane, as currently seem to be getting one or more heroes per turn. Can you point me in the direction of a good save game editor, as the one I downloaded appears to not like my more recent files? It's 'PzCpsSE'. Wh...
