It's just that game mechanics work in such a way that adjacent enemy units prevent you from reinforcing back to full strength, similar as resupply works. From GC 43 on things get bad really fast. One has to play much more methodically. Taking risks should be avoided really. SdKfz 222 is a favourite. It gets used plenty until the 234 variants become available. I thought of that many times, and I agree with cptjack's passive attack concept, however, would like to add that going up the gun caliber, the passive attack value should be lower, so it kind of simulates the weight of the gun. Good points and I agree. The amount of compromises grow exponentially by adding a new 'dimension', in the end only makes graphics goofy. No real effect. Civ5 did some things right here, I believe. I have a similar question. I've never received any special heroes (no Rudel, or high movement gebirgsjäger, etc). I have version 1.30 and no mods, I also had one unit slot available. What could be the issue?

I upgraded my bikers to pioneers and grenadiers. They rock early, but fade by '43. Yeah, it's quite a challenge to utilize infantry units by '43, especially on flat terrain where they always get attacked with artillery and T-34s with a danger of surrender. Backed by at least two own artillery units...
