Re: Air Combat Info

It's sad, this game has such beautifully executed ground and naval combat, and instead has such simple air combat mechanics. I mean, I am no ww2 expert but I recall ground AA being more like a stopgap measure that claimed few enemy planes. A simple mass attack bonus and some sort of escort mechanic...

Re: Air Combat Info

Manual is very stingy on aircraft vs aircraft combat, only mentioning the reduced damaged to diminished air units. However, I am having trouble dealing with aircraft without getting massive casualties. -Are there no efficiency shenanigans involved? -Is there no "support fire" from allied aircrafts ...

Re: Operation Compass British Tanks

The British have three tanks available for the Operation Compass scenario: Cruiser Mk.IV (A13), Valentine Mk.I, and Matilida Mk.II. All three have the same QF 2-pounder (4o mm) gun, yet their anti-mechanized attack values are different. The A13 is 9-11, the Valentine is 4, and the Matilda 8-10. Why...

Re: Allies Defiant Reviews

Bomb Alley is an odd scenario that in some respects comes down to attack damage RNG and the mysterious decision-making systems the AI uses on how to attack targets. If the AI dog-piled the destroyers with every bomber in range rather than spreading their bombers over all the destroyers, the mission...

Re: a/c fuel

Is this a bug. Ny brave pilot had a coice return to refule or press home the attack and sink the carrier with only one strength left. Sink it they did but now they did not have enough fuel to get home or anywhere to land. OK I expected the aircraft to fall out of the sky. Not a bit of it they carri...

Do transports affect reinforce cost?

Assume a unit of infantry without transport, a unit of infantry with truck and a unit of infantry with halftrack. All have the same experience. Do they all have the same reinforce cost?

Re: Allies Defiant Reviews

You will have about 56 land cp and 18 air cp in the last scenario if doing all 2nd objectives before and having 2 labour specs. In 3rd difficulty, my core team is about 5 gurkhas without truck, 4 towed arty (the strongest 3cp-one), 3 sherman, 1 captured stug (total 54) with 2 towed AA and 2 towed A...

Re: Allies Defiant Reviews

special forces are AWESOME on this level. i took a 2 star SBS unit to the rear on sea and took out the artillery and started to take out the flak. i also dropped a 1 star SAS unit at the rear to finish off the K18 and neutralize an sfh and an antitank there. im going to replay that level with 1 sbs...

Re: What next

Having played through the boot camp and the PH scenario I start the next where I was told I needed to get the DLC Pacific but it's discontinued I think I need US Pacific. Is this correct? Yes. I'd personally recommend getting the Soviet or German trilogy instead though. The newer scenarios are much...

Re: Air and artillery attack.

Actually it really matters if you have tactical bombers with “precious strike” trait or whatever battle navy. Normally, your ranged units cause less damage if target has less strength point except two units i said. ==> strategy bombers/arty always go first Precision strike, and yes that's helpful f...

Re: Air and artillery attack.

If the unit is entrenched, attack with whichever does more damage to entrenchment first. Otherwise it doesn’t really matter.

Re: Suggestion for Specializations that give Vet on Purchase

It’s really more about reinforcements but I actually didn’t know that about reforming with those specs. It kinda gives an incentive to lose and reform any zero vet units 🤔

Suggestion for Specializations that give Vet on Purchase

Currently the specializations that give vet on purchase are... bad. Like, really bad. Unless you need them to get something else there's really no reason to buy them. I'd like to suggest that they be changed such that they set the _minimum_ veterancy of your units of whichever type to 1 star. So all...

Re: Allies Defiant Reviews

you can put an engineer there at turn 1, lay minefields on the two tiles and problem solved. The AI didn’t do anything through the mines? I’ve seen them clear fields in other scenarios so I’d be shocked if they just did nothing. Plus their armored force definitely has an engineer. I’ll certainly tr...

Re: Allies Defiant Reviews

Hurricanes were used throughout the war and the question of which plane was superior is still very much up for grabs. I'd like to see them with the same air defense and the attack values as the point of differentiation (Hurricanes better atk against heavy bombers, Spitfires better atk against light...

Re: Allies Defiant Reviews

I agree, and I honestly don't love it. It certainly isn't historical! If the Hurricane had just slightly better air defense on its models it'd be a perfectly viable pick. The economic/production reasons why the Hurricane initially had to be relied on can't be replicated in a wargame unless they wan...

Re: Allies Defiant Reviews

We dont spend much time on france, but i really expected the battle of arras should be where we witness how good france tanks are, more than a small event of dunkirk. Arras is in the Expeditionary Force scenario. You start the mission with a non core unit garrisoned on it and a Matilda pops out nea...

Re: Allies Defiant Reviews

Well, they're the only ground attack planes the British have until they get the Typhoon. And I had no problems with them until Tobruk - they're decent for destroying enemy planes on their runways, and bombing artillery otherwise. I've compiled a gallery with the stats of the various airplanes discu...

Re: Allies Defiant Reviews

I had absolutely no problems in this campaign until I hit Tobruk. Until then I had used two Beaufighters for ground attack with the intention of upgrading them to Typhoons later, but that scenario absolutely seems to require all your deployed planes be Spitfires or you simply won't down planes fast...
