Little Big Men produces some banners for Islamic Armies. On the other hand if you're looking for historical for the conquest period you'll want to avoid them  In the Osprey "Armies of the Muslim Conquests" there is a page of flags from the Battle of Siffin which was in 657 so are pro...

Evaders always move before chargers. Since the rules say that evaders always counts as caught in flank or rear they will be disrupted and at -- at impact, even though actually hit in the front. Which I personally think is fine as they are not wanting to be hit from any direction to to suddenly find...

Contacting Evaders

Here is a puzzle. The impact rules for state (emphasis in the original): Evaders who are contacted by chargers always count as having been charged in flank/rear. Consider the following: 8) 8) 8) 8)            :a...

This would seem to indicate that the charging player cannot decide the order of charges in this instance. The mounted charge would then be cancelled as it could not avoid the friends that burst through it to make contact. I disagree. In a situation where we have one declared charge and one failed C...

Small list detail of note. The later Samurai list (Late Heian?) requires 24 bases of Bushi and Followers and allows additional detached Bushi and detached Followers as optional troops, requiring one BG of Followers for each BG of Bushi . Currently, the detached troops do not interact with the minimu...

I agree that the HF (if clear of the LF) could intercept if that put the HF beyond the front of the LF. If they come up short, then you have a chicken-and-egg situation on step-forwards. I think that a step-forward contingent on an intercept should not extend the charge path to allow that intercept....

I signed up for the beta. I play in tournaments, albeit badly.

I am super analytical though, so I am keen to hunt down loopholes.

Is the beta forum open yet? I see it on the list, but it rejects me as a plebe. Wasn't sure if that meant "No Beta For You!" or what.

[I suspect Zoltan means after the intercept has been / would have been moved Dave is right. In my photo the HF can not intercept as they are positioned outside the MF's 'normal' charge of 4MUs. As you correctly point out, if they were inside 4 MUs they would themselves be a target of the charge and...

Unfortunately, the value gaps are (a) pretty vast; but (b) not uniformly so across troop types. So, Poor skirmishers are not so bad, but Poor battle troops are horrible. Even if they were discounted, Poor battle troops would still suck. They are like the Reg Cv(I) of old -- worthless at any price. ...

I really wish there was another mechanism for the superior/poor grading instead of re-rolls. At some vague level, the substantial boost of re-rolling ones and penalty of re-rolling sixes strike me as too severe. Much like the older versions of (I/O/S) in DBM, re-rolls seem to make the gradations har...

I think this is a pretty clever idea, with some nice historical flavour. You might want limit the "mounted" qualification to only CAV and LH, and maybe Camelry. Otherwise the all knight/chariot/elephant/cataphract armies might qualify, too. There are a couple armies that can be say...

Another deployment option would be to allow all troops int he center to be deployed further in. Not sure this works as all the mounted armies would swing for the flanks rapidly. This might be OK, since you would not have to deploy deeply. So HF v. HF get a leg up, combined arms can adjust with thei...

If this is all to do with a "problem" in tournaments, and tournaments alone, surely the solution should be included in the tournament house-rules and not the core game? Even were I not to play tournaments, I would play games in the evening at my local club/game store. I would like ...

If "threatened" means within 2 MU (i.e. inside the RA), then the pikes may not form an orb. Why not. As long as they do not contract they can do it as a CMT. And you can't do it if there is no enemy in 6 MU. So against cavalry you'd never have chance to form it. The RA is always 2MU, so I...

Forming orb actually came up in one of my games this weekend. I agree that the OP is correct, but note the following: I have a 2 wide by 4 deep BG of pikes that is threatened in front and rear by 2x2 BGs of cataphracts. If "threatened" means within 2 MU (i.e. inside the RA), then the pikes...

If mixed BGs get POAs based on their front rank and dice based on their number of ranks (e.g., Sw in front rank give POA to non-Sw in back rank), why not do the same for Spearmen in mixed BGs. They count as two ranks of Sp for close combat, if the BG is in 2 ranks, steady, etc.? Does this make them ...

Many assumptions in this thread. Look how dumb you are. "Horse armies will always max their PBI." Wrong. Horse armies, however, have unmatched ability to max their PBI. They have an inherent +2 and infantry armies cannot match the +4 available to them. "HF/mounted will never enter di...

Mixed formations are usually good value until they lose a base and the bow moves forward into the front rank, at which point they become quite weak. Not if they're Danish or Swedish Armoured Crossbow Swordsmen. And even if they're Assyrian infantry, they are then no weaker than straight bow. Assyri...
