Re: an "invincible" defence of France (v4.0)

Maybe should cut Allied morale a bit more after Belgium/Holland invasion, or even better, have it recover more slowly. One thing I don't understand is that the French armor tech is actually better than the German: equal blitzkrieg (really?) and better armor.

Re: GS v4.00 resolutions

Any guess when this will be available to try? I am using a 4K HDTV as a monitor now, which is 3840x2160. It works great as a monitor, except playing CEAW at the old resolution is now really ridiculous. I am really looking forward to being able to play it in a window at a reasonable resolution (like ...

Thanks for this great mod. I was playing my first game as entente and had a crash. Reloaded the autosave end turn twice and got two more crashes. I am attaching the file (if I can figure out how)

Re: POTZBLITZ V5.0 (beta), SEP 22th

I just discovered PotsBlitz and tried playing for the first time (V5). It is very impressive! I have enjoyed CTGW occasionally for a few years, but this seems to make it much more interesting. I have a question about the AI. I played as CP with privileged AI, and for the first time ever got my ass k...

Re: Strategic Command

I bought Strategic Command last night. It's way too soon to say how well I like it. I can say that it seems to incorporate many elements from CEaW, such as generic units, production, research, leaders, no stacking. It is, however, a more elaborate and complicated game. The install file is 1.7 GB--th...

Re: AAR: Supermax VS Vokt (No Vokt pls) Version 4.0

I agree that the proposed change would be an improvement, since it would end the practice of continual harassment of BBs (in particular) in port. Like supermax, I have sometimes employed blocking subs to stop this nonsense. However, as Stauffenberg points out, occasionally subs did manage to get int...

Re: AAR: Supermax VS Vokt (No Vokt pls) Version 4.0

I presume your BBs are being hit by subs in port--over and over again. I think this is an unrealistic aspect of the game, because while sub attacks in ports did happen on occasion, they would depend on finding an exploitable weakness in the port defenses (like nets). For this to happen 100% of the t...

Re: game imbalances in 3.1

I mostly agree with all three of your points. I never build ARMs as Allies, mainly because they are way to vulnerable to German TACs. However, I do find ARMs have their uses for the Axis, especially if they maintain a tech lead (both armor and tank-destroyer strategies are important for defense agai...

Re: Plaid vs Vokt CEAW GS 3.2 beta AAR

Prior to 3.2 I believe it was impossible to bomb Berlin from England even with all upgrades. I see in this game that Berlin is near zero production in early 1943, so I presume a strat range of 20 (the min distance from England to Berlin) is now reached with some intermediate upgrade. This seems like...

Re: Another GS 3.2 Suggestion

No question that occasionally subs were able to attack ships in port, but it was not a frequent occurrence due to measures like anti-submarine nets. I am only suggesting that subs should not be able to attack ships in port turn after turn, as frequently occurs in GS (in my experience especially agai...

Another GS 3.2 Suggestion

Now that GS has the concept of subs evading attack it seems that surface ships (DD/BB/CV) ought to be able to evade sub attacks as well. Subs were slow compared to such surface ships, and could not attack them so easily. I don't think subs attacked surface ships very often. Maybe if a sub does not s...

I don't think I would bother with intercepts, but it seems that when air bases are attacked it would be reasonable to show a target.

Minor Bug?

I opened my PBEM turn and was puzzled that some of my tacs had lost steps, but there were no "targets" on them indicating that they had been attacked. My opponent informed me that he had indeed bombed my tacs with his strats. Maybe there is a problem showing the targets when tacs are attac...

Re: Vokt (axis) vs Plaid (allies) 3.10 AAR

Complicating a game like that would make finding the game balance even worse. What should be considered acceptable casualties for the Allies? The casualties will be a function of Axis activity. If the Axis player knows he can win even by inflicting extra casualties then he will play accordingly. Th...

Re: Vokt (axis) vs Plaid (allies) 3.10 AAR

Ideally, what I would most like to see in the victory conditions is rewarding the axis for capturing and holding objectives and the allies for minimizing casualties. This would encourage more realistic and I think more interesting behavior by both sides. Hitler was nutty enough to think he could cap...

Re: Vokt (axis) vs Plaid (allies) 3.10 AAR

I think this AAR has the fastest annihilation of the axis armies in the east I have ever seen. Yet it's hard to see how the allies win this game because Berlin seems too far with just 8 allied turns remaining. With the victory conditions as they are--everything depending on the date Berlin and Hambu...

Re: BattlevonWar (Axis) vs Vokt (Allies)

If the allies successfully invade Norway they can strat-bomb Berlin, not to mention interdicting the Swedish iron ore in winter. This is a major problem for the Axis. Invasion of Iberia gives the Axis significant extra resources, and it's a long tough slog for the Allies thought all that terrain. Do...

Deciding where to spend your limited resources is certainly one of the things that makes this game interesting and challenging. Having sufficient commanders is very important, or in the long run you will take much greater losses in PPs and manpower due to lower effectiveness. I would always want to ...
