Re: New Yorker Article on Linothorax armor

Define wealthy. The information is so limited to be almost non existant. And what evidence is there of leather armor? Linen seemed more available and if glued into multiple layers, seems hjust as viable an armor as leather or bronze and a lot more comfortable and cheaper.

Re: New Yorker Article on Linothorax armor

Probably most "campaigns" between the Greek City States were short affairs. I also wonder what the "Average Joe" wore. If you were wealthy you could affort the expensive leather/bronze armour, but for an average citizen what was the cost benefit of bronze vs leather vs linen armor>

Re: New Yorker Article on Linothorax armor

The Hoplon (shield) probably could take the impact of a spear thrust, or at least divert it over/away from the target. As far as heavy leather Linothorax- once you had set up a system/mass process of glueing the cloth together would seem to be easier and cheaper than the thick leather which would re...

Re: New Yorker Article on Linothorax armor

Graham- I thought the same thing as far as Central American armour. Of course having a shield would deflect the sword blows. Perhaps the hoplite swords were more made for cut/crush than the Spanish sword thrusts.

New Yorker Article on Linothorax armor

How to Make Your Own Greek Armor Posted by Joshua Rothman 06/27/2014 Intellectual life thrives on mystery. When it comes to ancient Greece, one of those mysteries is the linothorax—the flimsy-looking, hip-length armor that you see warriors wearing on Greek vases. (Linothorax means, literally, “linen...

Re: Keeping FOG N growing

I disagree- how do you grow a player base if the present published rules create such problems? All present players agree that the present rules are poorly printed and not very well edited. How do you entice new players if they face such rules? How do you sell them onthe rules if they look at forums ...

Re: Game Opening Variation

What if players (attacker first) alternately pick terrain pieces?

Also, what is the effect if you allow the same deployment rules as FoGAM or (more likely) FoGR?

Re: Basing 15mm British

It would be nice if people would post pic of their basing just to get an idea. For my French I did: (2x2 bases in battle column) .. FF | FF .. F=Fusilier, G=Grenadier, 1=Flagbearer, 2= Drummer, FFFF | FFFF 3=Officer, V=Voltigeur (one in front on first two bases), ..just empty space GFFF|FFFF GFFF|12...

Re: Basing 15mm British

I (would) use option "2" except I would only have two grenadier figures on the far right, and two skirmishing on the far left, or maybe have the skirmishers in front of (if you can squeeze them in) the main body of the two "center" bases. Option "1" screams out doing it...

Re: Skirmishing cavalry in Woods

Also realize that in most European woods, the brush and the debris has been collected by local villagers for firewood so the groundfloor would be pretty clean. Probably there would be some disruption of formations but as long as the platoons and companies stay relatively together, orders can be give...
