There is a missle class and a nuke mechanic, so even World War III is possible. Suddenly I'm (gulp) afraid... http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g64/PoorOldSpike/russ-tanks3_zpsbhdyasxv.jpg~original http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g64/PoorOldSpike/russ-tanks2_zps2kd5la8j.jpg~original

Re: Weather 'tis nobler..

You only have to load the *.csv files from the Content\Data folder in a spreadsheet program and many things will become much clearer over time, especially if you start modifying settings and check these changes in the game. There are also a bunch of *.txt files that can be very quickly checked and ...

Re: Weather 'tis nobler..

You know that Unit Navigator shows you the effect of climate on unit movement and line of sight, right? PLease don't forget that different units have different "chassis" and thus, again, various movement speeds on different terrains and climates. Like foot, wheel, half-track and track. Yes guys, my...

Re: Next DLC?

..If we want to simulate other wars, then the game title will have to change, for example "OoB Vietnam" and it will no longer be a DLC but a new game (stand-alone). My cash is waiting..:) "You smell that? You smell that? Napalm boy, nothing else in the world smells like that. I love the smell of na...

Re: Weather 'tis nobler..

Well here's my first batch of tests conducted today, pure vanilla 7.1.6, no mods/ addons/ file tweaks or specialisations of any kind- TANKS MOVEMENT IN DIFFERENT 'CLIMATE' SETTINGS I used the stock Pz IVH as the test models and started them on the barbed wire (for reference) and ordered them to move...

Re: Weather 'tis nobler..

Yes mate, I'll get on it tomorrow and post my findings in this thread in due course,it's 2:20 a.m. here in the UK and I'm falling asleep in front of The Waltons so will hit the sack shortly, can't miss the ending- "Olivia bakes a cake for the County Fair and granma knits a shawl", hmm riveting stuff...

Re: Weather 'tis nobler..

Thanks mate but if there are two things that terrify me, its files and women, for example that Sandstorm file says speed 0.5, and LOS 0.1, which could mean anything.
NO PROBLEMO, I'll run hands-on tests to get to the bottom of all weather and climate effects, it's what I do..:)

Weather 'tis nobler..

I swear I saw a sentence in the OOB manual saying something like "Weather has no effect on gameplay", yet it DOES have an effect, or have I misunderstood somewhere along the line? (sniffle). For example 'Winter' climate gives a white wonderland where rivers are frozen and units can therefore walk or...

Re: Does simulating history matter in OOB?

I think it is best to use same-quality infantry as a general rule and add experience to high-quality units. I tried that but the problem is that Experience yo-yo's up and down during the scenario, so even if you assign a unit a high exp at the start, it could drop later if new non-elite replacement...

Re: Does simulating history matter in OOB?

We can regard a units fluctuating "Efficiency" factor as a "morale indicator" can't we? Also, if we create a scenario, we can select units whose combat factors reflect the "global morale" of the period. For example in this sample of vanilla 7.1.6 units we see that the stock German and Russian 1941 i...

Re: Units You Never Buy

I find many units are simply too specialized to be generally useful and thus not worth the resource investment. For example, I personally avoid using.... 3. Dedicated anti-tank units. Tanks can take out tanks too, but they can also take out infantry, so I'd prefer to simply buy another tank unit in...

Re: Does simulating history matter in OOB?

And consider this- Heavy tanks like the Kingtiger and Tiger are ALREADY penalised enough on two counts: Firstly, their speed in open terrain is only 3 hexes (compared to the PzIVH's 4 hexes) Secondly the heavies suffer from the 'Heavy treading' trait which slaps a severe efficiency penalty on them w...

Re: Does simulating history matter in OOB?

BTW, Spike, don't be lazy, try to learn to play with unreliable trait. It's not so difficult... I've tried, but the trait was so unrealistic and non-historical that I've avoided it ever since, so full marks to the OOB devs for getting rid of it..:) I mean, because my two Tiger units in that p...

Re: Does simulating history matter in OOB?

Spike, I have 4th question for you: 4 - Do you want this trait returned unchanged but only for modding in the game's editor? I don't know what you mean mate, all I know is that when I build scenarios I won't include any tanks that have the old "too severe" Unreliable trait that cripples the unit. S...

Re: Does simulating history matter in OOB?

I wonder why the devs removed the Unreliable trait? Perhaps people didn't like the trait and complained about it like I did, and the devs agreed with us. Maybe the devs should put up a poll asking- 1- Do you want the trait? 2- Do you not want the trait? 3- Do you want the trait returned, but in a le...

Re: Does simulating history matter in OOB?

Historically, tanks did break down of course, some more often than others, but I always felt that OOB's 'Unreliability' trait was TOO severe, so I'm not sorry to see it's gone, and if the devs bring it back in a future patch I hope they'll have reduced its severity. After all, there was more than on...

Re: Does simulating history matter in OOB?

Simulating "what ifs" can be fun, for example suppose the Nazis had invaded America in strength, a possible scenario blurb could go something like this- "Having pushed ahead of the main US forces, Captain Simms ordered his recon jeep driver to stop and scrambled to the top of the ridge from where th...

Re: Does simulating history matter in OOB?

Suggested OOB scenario title-

"BLACK WIDOWS OVER THE ATLANTIC"

NEW YORK RADAR CONTROLLER- "12 Amerikabombers coming in high and fast!"
P-61 SQUADRON LEADER- "Okay guys, let's go get 'em!"

Re: Does simulating history matter in OOB?

Another way to look at OOB would be to regard it as a "toybox" which we can delve into to have fun experimenting with "what ifs". For example here are just a few of the dozens of "Specialisations" we can assign to scenarios in the Editor, we can even have (gulp) NUKES if we want them..:) https://i53...

Re: Explanation of all traits

Regarding the 'Unreliable' trait, I found it to be a little too powerful so I'm not sorry to see it's gone, however if the devs are going to bring it back in a future patch I hope they'll make it a little less powerful. I first ran across it a year ago in stock scenario Panzerkrieg > Operation Star ...
