Re: How to activate US units in Pearl Harbor
Aye, aye, Captain! Let me at those so-and-so's! What a difference "thinking outside the box" (and reading these forums) will make! This is at least the fourth time I have played U.S. Pearl and these are by far the best results that I have had. ALL airfields activated, including For...

Re: Erik's Singleplayer scenarios
Erik, there's a pending question in your campaigns thread where this post belongs and I did not want to cut the questioner off so I will use this thread instead. While beta-testing your recent campaigns, I was struck by your occasionally sneaking in some interesting history by something as simple as...

Re: Main screen
I know you quoted me up there but I know those menu commands by heart and, looking at those images side-by-side, I would prefer the lighter versions. You wouldn't be willing to include those in your zip files as well, would you? http://www.mediafire.com/file/henl3z0n3gun5mq/splash%25282%252...

Re: Experts, what is a mask.tga file?
So the first screen shot is from U.S. Pacific, one of the main mask.tga files; you can see the outline of the Pacific Rim: Capture1006.jpg Now compare these two images. That looks like the Japanese advance from Manchuria into China: Capture1007.jpg Capture1008.jpg I loaded U.S. Pacific into the camp...

Re: Desert Rats 1940-42 beta testing
Race to Tunis, v. 1.7 continued For the secondary objectives: - You have the target hexes pointing for both Djebel Abjod triggers (All and Ax) to Beja. - As I brought up for Operation Torch, you don't have a tracking trigger to say, "Hey, you got all 14 secondary points. You win the objective '...

Re: Desert Rats 1940-42 beta testing
Race to Tunis, v. 1.7 In the briefing, "It is somewhat unclear if they will stay loayal to the Vichy government..." Correct the spelling of "loyal." Here's my thinking on your primary objective trigger. This Check VP condition is fine: $matches[2] But this Check Turn / Scenario e...

Re: Experts, what is a mask.tga file?
That's a very good guess, Shards! But, why would it not be part of custom campaign designing? Is it something that only the developers know how to include and use for that purpose? I wonder how we could test that . . . EDIT : Yes, that has to be it. Now I recall how the shaded areas move across the ...

Re: Desert Rats 1940-42 beta testing
Operation Torch, v. 1.7 continued This trigger seems superfluous in that it is not linked to any objective and you don't have a separate naval objective other than "Destroy Vichy capital ships" which you already addressed with your Naval Toulon and Allied capitals triggers. $matches[2] Her...

Re: Desert Rats 1940-42 beta testing
Operation Torch, v. 1.7 continued Moving on to the trigger which feeds that objective: $matches[2] What this is saying is, the first time any combat happens on the map, if none of my capital ships is sunk, I win! Which is not what you intended, I think. Because, say the next combat does involve one ...

Re: Desert Rats 1940-42 beta testing
Operation Torch, v. 1.7 continued So, I think I get this. You start off with both capital ship objectives off: $matches[2] Once the entire Vichy navy that is initially on the scene gets wiped out (including subs by the way, which may take some time and that is if they are ever all caught), then you ...

Re: Desert Rats 1940-42 beta testing
Operation Torch, v. 1.7 The juxtaposition of the only true Polish unit in this scenario, the destroyer Pozarica , and this Polish Engineer who is a turncoat working for the Vichy French makes me suspect treachery is afoot! Especially since this engineer has wheels and is ready to go, unlike its comp...

Re: Experts, what is a mask.tga file?
Here's one last thought. As a test, I deleted all mask.tga files from this custom campaign: $matches[2] Then I continued to edit it, adding a dragon who is helping himself to a bit of tea and a surprise German invasion of the U.S. territory of "Brunesia." The editor accepted the changes an...

Re: Experts, what is a mask.tga file?
My mother also always told me (not really, but she should have) "Boy, sometimes just when you think you know it all, you find out that you don't know nuttin' at all!" :) The problem is, when you create a new campaign, edit map text, and add doodads, none of that creates any mask.tga files ...

Re: Experts, what is a mask.tga file?
So what are the mask.tga files for, then? terminator reminded me that .tga is a fancy image format. When I would call a mask.tga file up in a simple photo editor, all I got was a blank white box. That's because most of the image is transparent and the visible part of it is white. The photo editor's ...

Re: Experts, what is a mask.tga file?
My mother always told me (not really, but she should have), "Son, if you want to know about something, you gotta ask the experts. Even if they don't know, they'll point you in the right direction!" :) So, thank you experts. You gave some valuable clues and did indeed point me in the right ...

Re: Rising Sun / Java conundrum
I don't think that would be the case because, IIRC, the problem with the popup messages was associated with Turn Start. This objective trigger is activated by Capture VP Event.

Re: How to activate US units in Pearl Harbor
I have played Pearl Harbor (U.S. side) at least four times now and I have never thought of using activated AA guns to wake up other AA guns on their way to the harbor. Never. Whaaaaaat? How else do you do it? One of the first activated AA guns has a REALLY speedy transport assigned...(almost as fas...
