Re: Military reform

Thanks. I would have guessed the opposite, given the Marian reforms for Roman legions, so you have helped me avoid some aggravation. :)

Military reform

So I get to the decision where I can reform units, but the text says they will "convert progressively to their improved unit (only if it exists)"

How do you know if it exists?

Re: Master Fletcher, Armorsmith, etc

yes one unit per turn - note if your allies are in the region they can steal the upgrade. the message log tells you which unit (as above set this to average), open the unit's detailed screen and you'll see their defence line as something like 5(+1), the +1 indicates the benefit of the upgrade Troub...

the cavalry one definitely works, I've one in my current game. Station suitable units in the hex, if it upgrades there is a symbol in the region and in the message log (if you set this to average)
How frequently does one upgrade?
Is there some indication on the expanded unit card?

Master Fletcher, Armorsmith, etc

In-game, these structures say they offer a "custom effect." Grognerd's Guide says: "One random ranged unit located in the region will be issued "Reflex Bows" (or the equivalent for slings and javelins) and have its Attack, Defense and Movement stats buffed by +1 each turn." and " you park military u...

Re: Fortifications: Yes or No

I generally build them. In case of war, you cannot count on these to hold the enemy for very long, but it does prevent some small army from just zigzagging through your empire, taking one region per turn. Which, in turn, allows you more chance to concentrate your troops rather than spread them around.

I've put it on the list for investigation. Is it possible your army arrived after the territory was captured or was it stationary and already there before the end of the turn?
It was stationary, already there prior to that turn.

(I have saved games if you want to look at them.)

Re: Woa, devs, this cannot possibly be intended!

Out of curiosity, did Alpes spawn any Urban Militia defenders for your ally when the enemy moved in? Or were you completely by yourself in defense? I do not think so. But with a frontage of only 3, I was only noticing my front three units. It is conceivable that there were some allied back line tro...

Re: Woa, devs, this cannot possibly be intended!

I could be wrong, but it seems that it might be that the enemy conquered it from the ally first and then you conquered it from the enemy. Based on my viewing of certain things in my game, I could easily see this happening. I don't think so, because 1) I see all of my ally's battles so I would have ...

Woa, devs, this cannot possibly be intended!

Playing as Rome, I stationed an army in my ally Helvitii's province, Alpes. During the turn, our mutual enemy Celticii attacked, and my army won. After the turn's resolution, I now own Alpes. The log shows two messages: A battle has been fought in Alpes between Celticii and Rome. We conquered Alpes ...

Peace mechanics

Nation A and B were allied, so when Nation C declared war on Nation B, Nation A was brought into the war. Now Nation C offers Nation A peace. Just to be clear, this means that they are offering a separate peace, and may well be intending to remain at war with Nation B? And there is no way in the int...

Siege question

I have seen the following sequence of events a couple times. 1) An army arrives in a region where there us some level of walls. 2) Next turn the army moves on to another regions. 3) Simultaneous with the move to another region, there is a message about having made a breach and inflicting some casual...

Defensive structures and civil war/rebellions

I have been playing my first "serious" game as Dacia, and making liberal use of their faction advantage of strong defensive structures. Now that I am approaching the mid-game, cities are getting larger, loyalty is a bit more of an issue, and the possibility of eventually falling a civilization level...

Hoping dev can weigh in, it seems pretty important to strategy if playing Dacia.

(Not only the walls to breach, but the siege resistance.)

I'm not sure. As you can see, I have city walls and Dacian Fort already built, but mousing over the city it says "unbreached walls 1 of 1"

Dacian palisades

The region of Dacia starts with the Dacian Fortress. But it offers palisades as a building option. Is that working as intended? And, if so, is this just added on to make it wall 3/3 and siege resistance of 6?

Seems a bit odd.

Re: First reactions

Thank you! That is very enlightening. It explains what I was seeing. If keeping score watching a tense battle, no point toting up "wins and losses" Tote up points, including both effectiveness and health points. Given that I was counting the wrong thing, it is no wonder I was often befuddled by the ...
