Re: Are the Etruscans perhaps a bit short-changed?

I think letting them have access to an elite infantry unit in the late army would be fair. It is ludicrous to think the army that gave the Romans such a bloody fight at Sentinum did not have some variety of royal guards or palace regiments.

Re: What do you hope to see added before Fog II ends?

I would like to see both Alexios' army at Dyrrachion and his post-Norman composite Komnenian army as genuinely tactically distinct. Can't wait for that, and can't wait to win the battle of Dyrrachion.

Re: The Arab vs. Sassanid Persian list feels absolutely perfect. (a thank you)

The TT Sassanid list is made even harder by your superior horse archers being not maneuverable and having to stand and take impacts at a disadvantage. I'll admit I was skeptical of having an army where basically the whole infantry body is superior grade but given the historical context and the effe...

The Arab vs. Sassanid Persian list feels absolutely perfect. (a thank you)

Having just finished a great Pen and Sword book on the military history of Heraclius and Yazdegerd's attempts to hold back the Muslims (War of the Three Gods) I needed some catharsis. I always identify with lost causes, and I must say my experience using the late Sassanid army vs the Conquest army o...

Re: Things we learned the hard way.

Charging Poorly Armed Rabble in rough terrain with skirmishers isn't as easy as one would think. If even you disorder them in the first contact, their massive unit strength will often allow them to recover unless you get lucky or overwhelm them with 3 or more skirmisher units. Overall, the Rabble un...

Re: Which Armies/Units would you like to see

Irregular foot need to be diversified like the TT mod does -- the base unit is ugly and somehow manages to look ahistorical in every single army list it is in.

Re: What do you hope to see added before Fog II ends?

Certainly more unit variety. That vanilla irregular foot unit is astoundingly ugly and looks ahistorical no matter what army it is in. I'd like to see Persian irregular foot with the takabara, Armenian irregular foot with spears and axes, etc, etc. Or really even just a remodeling of that unit. The ...

Re: Give the shieldwall unit some helmets like Dailami foot and make hirdsmen armoured?

You don't need to provide evidence. We are well aware that some of the men in a shieldwall would have helmets. However, as we have mentioned before, we are a small studio and our art budget (and art time allocation) is not infinite. There were simply too many variations of appearance in Ancient and...

Re: "Wack a mole" behavior

First, great game now that I've been able to not lose for more than 30 years. Not sure if this has been covered: Playing Epirus (on Balanced difficulty), took Dardarni's capitol and 70 armies went on the run in the remaining four underdeveloped provinces they had left. Was allied with Carthage and ...

Re: Greek units should be able to recruit a Superior Infantry unit

Referring back to the original post, some states like Syracuse are completely outclassed. I had to abandon my game with Syracuse due to getting fed up with facing overwhelming odds ( http://www.slitherine.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=534&t=93327 ) (I did lack some deeper game knowledge that I now have...

Re: Greek units should be able to recruit a Superior Infantry unit

But improved units don't become the advanced type in Field of Glory II if you export the battle. Thureophoroi are still thureophoroi, Javelins are still javelins. Why not have them become peltasts and Thorakitai/imitation legions? That would be way cooler and way more historically accurate, and wou...

Re: Greek Faction Unit Questions

Agreed. The Spartans didn't even have pike phalanxes at the game's start, and didn't develop them until Kleomenes. Superior hoplites would be better -- I made a thread elsewhere regarding Greek units in general. The rosters need retooling rather badly at present -- they are not representative of Hel...

Greek units should be able to recruit a Superior Infantry unit

A superior hoplite unit would go a long way towards a) making Greek rosters feel more unique and interesting, giving access to a Palace Guard unit that could give a good RP reason to get attached to specific commanders and b) would allow historically powerful Greek states like Syracuse compete again...

Re: Which provincial units are really unique?

Armenian Cataphracts and Armenian cavalry are an incredible asset. Galatian warbands give some much-needed impact foot in a land of flimsy Thureophoroi. Pontus and Armenia can build a really mean combined arms force if they expand.

This is assuming you have FOG2 as well.
