Re: Thoughts on Encirclement and Retreat

Movement is already an enormously complex system in Panzer Corps. I'll fudge the numbers slightly, but the first Panzer Corps had 8 types of Unit Movement, 16 types of Hex Terrain, and 3 different Ground Conditions. That's 384 values. Every move is a special case! That's not to say that complexity ...

Re: Thoughts on Encirclement and Retreat

@Kerensky Your point about splitting is well-taken; that's a good opportunity for meaningful trade-offs! However, I see no reason to take a hard stance on sub-rules. A retreat-move doesn't have to be identical to a standard-move. A retreat-move could use extra MPs, for example. For the sake of disc...

Re: Thoughts on Encirclement and Retreat

And sometimes it's very practical to leave an avenue of retreat for your enemy. Because if there is only one way to retreat, your enemy will take it. Examples include: Allowing a unit to retreat onto a river hex, destroying all of its movement points with a single hex movement, and now it can be eas...

Re: Countdown HYPE: 22

Each trait which can come with a hero has name and description. This particular trait has name "Uber Unit" and description "+5 max overstrength limit". Calling this trait "+5 max overstrength" is not an option, because it would be inconsistent with all the other traits in the game. We need a proper...

Re: PC2 vs. PC1 (and old General Games)

It is the unfortunate nature of the campaign environment that practically demands the highest quality of units to be selected over any measure of quantity. Who cares if you have more tanks, because you only have access to so many hexes from which to attack your enemy down? Your average VH can only b...

Re: Thoughts on Encirclement and Retreat

Also, being able to retreat out of encirclement isn't some kind of reward or get out of jail free card. Retreating naturally comes with movement penalties: you can only retreat with MP, and expend MP taken away from your next turn to perform a retreat. And finally, if your encirclement isn't complet...

Re: Thoughts on Encirclement and Retreat

This exact conversation is happening in BETA testing. So I'll say what I said there, here. I don't think the game needs more subrules. Retreat mechanics are already kind of wonky, and by wonky I mean very difficult to grasp. There are lots of governing factors like ZOC and unit movement points and t...

Re: PC2 vs. PC1 (and old General Games)

The main game play differences are: support fire, deployment slots, overstrengthing, air basing, infantry base strength, entrenchment affects, and recon support. AT provides support fire against hard targets. Overstrength is a deployment option, independent of experience. Each unit has a prestige co...

What's wrong with Pacific General? Looks right to me.

Perhaps it should be Pacific Admiral...

Re: Airplane Selection/Release

No no. Don't right click on the airplane unit. Right click on the map. I mean on any empty hex. That's a problem in of itself though. Right click has too many functions packed into it. Deselecting a unit doesn't work if you deselect while your cursor is over a unit. The way it should work is: 1. If...

Re: Pre-order pre-play window

Played a little more last night and I have one more thing I'd like to add to the wish list. In Panzer General and Panzer Corps, there was always a pop up window when new equipment was available. This pop up doesn't seem to be there anymore and I miss it. Particularly between scenarios in the campai...

Re: Pre-order pre-play window

Has anyone played with the editor? I am particularly interested in how to edit text in briefings and descriptions. Briefing system is built right into the editor. No need to mess with third party programs or anything of that sort at all. :D The script system is configured outside of the editor thou...

That feature list needs its own sticky. That's actually really helpful to know exactly what is coming for 1.0.

Re: PACIFIC GENERAL for PZc 2

Solving this by randomization would have all the disadvantages you describe on top of ruining the historical aspect of the game. Defending Pearl Harbor against a Japanese attack from the south just wouldn't be right. I don't think anyone would use such a specific battle to throw randomization into....

Re: PACIFIC GENERAL for PZc 2

Interesting feedback from everyone. We'll absolutely take some notes. Though it seems pretty clear the players overwhelming want more 'campaign'. What exactly that entails seems to just come down to personal preferences. :) Part of what makes the European theater of WW2 so interesting is the rapidly...

Re: Panzer corps 2 release of console

You know what I remember? When I was a little child, my first taste of Panzer General, you know that original game, was on my original PlayStation console. Not PS2 or PS4, just PS. It introduced me to the world of strategy games, that I still luv, and now work on, to this very day. So I would luv to...

Re: PACIFIC GENERAL for PZc 2

Personally, I found Pacific General quite dull. The dense jungle makes for a quite static gameplay. Sure, you had the island invasions and stuff, but the ground combat was to a great extent an infantry meat grinder. Of all the possible DLC options for Panzer Corps 2, I'd put the Pacific theatre at ...

Re: Any decent youtubers previewing PzC2?

I mean, some of the tactics I can demonstrate are probably going to make people's head spin. But I'm under NDA so I can't show/discuss them at this point, sorry. :) Point is, I still don't think it's reasonable to expect gamers to instantly play this game like pros. The only people with enough exper...

Re: Any decent youtubers previewing PzC2?

He's awful. It's rare to see such an incompetent player tbh. It'd be fine if he actually had some historical knowledge but no. I previewed the videos before I linked him.... is he really so awful? Seems okay. I mean... Sure maybe *I* play better, but are people really so hungry to see highest level...
