Re: 3218 hours in and my first real game gripe- fall back blocking

I do not really understand why it needs changing. It is annoying of course when opponents find ways to get an advantage, but that is the nature of a game and I think it is perfectly possible to rationalise what happens. Also I think that there are armies that need this tactic in order to have a chan...

Re: 3218 hours in am my first real game gripe- fall back blocking

There are different scenarios. If I block fallback with a heavy unit, that seems quite legitimate and easy to rationalise. I can see that it gets irritating if you do this with a unit of disrupted slingers or something like that. So maybe, yes, as TheGrayMouser suggests, self-abstinence in those sit...

Re: 30 Years War team event - Round 3 begins

I recently played an MP match of Lutzen as the Swedes, here it is - https://youtu.be/Q6EHafDyFeg It's a tough scenario for the Swedes to outright win, but the scenario victory conditions are quite achievable, though it's not easy. Luckily, I will be hiding behind entrenchments, garden walls, and Cr...

Re: dkalenda has been expelled from the tournament for multiple re-loading of turns during his matches . . .

The oddest thing to me, as some have alluded to, is that he did this so often. What a curious way to spend your time. I feel quite sorry for him in some ways. On chess.com, cheating has long been a big issue and they seem rather sophisticated in detecting it. Interestingly, discussion of it on the f...

Re: 30 Years War team event

Yes, Gavin, sorry I should have clarified that.

On the advice of our captains, we will play Lutzen and not Breitenfeld.

30 Years War team event - Round 3 begins

With the Protestants marching through Germany and burning Catholic villages and towns as they go (all in the name of holy vengeance etc), Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden decides to get in on the act. This would be a great opportunity for Sweden to enlarge its empire. His troops land and meet little oppo...

Re: 30 Years War team event

Fybyyn dont join to ours game, i supposed that about lack of time. Have we got any scenario for future? Maybe someone else wants to fight on White Muntain, or we go to the next stage of war? Hi Gribol I think that we should cancel your game with Fybyyn. We will start Lutzen very soon and I will pos...

Re: 30 Years War team event

https://youtu.be/Fs2PepU51KM Please forgive the occasional meowing of one of my cats. He seems to know when I'm recording and need quiet... Thanks for the nice video, and not just because of the outcome. But very interesting to see a game from the opponent's perspective and to see what they are wor...

Re: 30 Years War team event

Shock news from Germany, ahuyton's protestants have managed a win against snugglebunnies (alias Wallenstein)'s catholics, 61-54. Early on, the game was marked by conversation as the two Generals harangued each other, both trying to claim that they were feeling pessimistic. Early results seemed to fa...

Re: 2020 team event - final score and comments

Thanks Brian for the kind words. I can understand SB's suggestion but I personally do not want to have a competition feel to the 'event'. The idea is to have themed games with some atmosphere and narrative. Obviously, players try to win their games but in the end it does not really matter if they do...

2020 team event - final score and comments

Well done to everyone, I think we can probably close Round 3 now. I am still not sure if Cedric and Fabien are playing. If not, we will forget it and call it a draw. If so, we can add the result later. So the conclusion is: Snuggles and TGM win for the Koreans Gdod win for the Japanese Invaders So w...

I have returned from a two week sabbatical to find the Hand of God has blessed his Protestant League with many Victories and new, very skilful, Generals.
We are Blessed indeed.
Welcome back, Brian, mixed results really but it is nice to have interest in the game.

Re: 30 Years War team event

the tercios are really good if you can get into hand to hand combat...an early tercio will handle 3 pike and shot....but getting into combat without disrupting is very difficult, especially against an experienced player with a gentle hill near his base line for him to emplace his batteries snigger ...

Re: 30 Years War team event

I am happy to announce a great (but costly) victory for the Catholic forces against the Bohemian rebels at White Mountain! In a shocking turn up for the books Tomoegozen manages to squeek a 65-40 win against ahuyton. The incredible resilience of a number of veteran early tercios saved the day. Than...

Re: 30 Years War team event

In the latest encounter between Tilly's Catholic forces (Lascar) and my Protestant rabble, the Protestants managed to win 60-38. There were three intact and marauding enemy Keils at the end of play, but my cavalry managed to outnumber and defeat the enemy mounted troops and my nervous shot and pike ...
