Re: Erik's Multiplayer scenarios

I heard there's a new version of Operation Olympic 2 vs 2, but I don't see it anywhere. Maybe it was a misunderstanding? If there is one what are the changes, while it's early going it feels okay so far.

Re: Erik's Multiplayer scenarios

Looking at it closer the allies do have a pretty tight turn limit, that probably makes it workable as 2 vs 2 after all. I'll see how I feel after the games have concluded :)

Re: Erik's Multiplayer scenarios

I think maybe the new four player operation olympic ought to be three player, with two allied commanders and one japanese. Japan is already in a serious pinch so adding the possibility of miscommunication and / or poor coordination to the mix for them might make it unbalanced. No offense intended to...

If you think the axis is overpowered, I'm happy to challenge you with me playing as little old underdog Russia ;)

Re: Erik's Multiplayer scenarios

The Okinawa map sounds similar to Operation Olympic. Tried that one as the Japanese and was scratching my head at how exactly I'm supposed to survive... From what I remember there was a lot of rail but no tunnels though.

Re: Erik's Multiplayer scenarios

Maybe I could have done slightly better in Damascus and earned a turn or two, but I'm not sure that would have been enough for allied units to dig the axis out of the final objective. Was it Homs? I think Alleppo is the secondary objective in the far north but I might be getting them confused. Anywa...

Re: Erik's Multiplayer scenarios

Yeah playing as Free France I ended up with loads of resource points and nothing to spend them on, but also nothing consequential to do after taking Damascus. Likewise the eastern infantry weren't able to get anywhere near enemy units before running out of turns. Had I been playing as the Axis it's ...

Re: Erik's Multiplayer scenarios

Hmm... In another context I'd be criticising the game mechanics on the basis of their being overly opaque, but I've spent weeks trying unsuccessfully to get my head around Shadow Empire so could be worse!

Re: Erik's Multiplayer scenarios

The subtleties of this game are truly profound... Speaking of which I have a question. I notice sometimes I'll take over a town and if I leave the next turn, it remains mine. Other times if I leave the next turn it reverts to the previous owner, so I have to stay a full three turns for the flag to b...

Re: Erik's Multiplayer scenarios

Yeah according to the article part of the reason the Spitfire gets so much credit is it was the first (British? Or in the world?) fighter to be made entirely out of metal. Insofar as the soviets used wood successfully as part of the heat shield in their space program, I wouldn't underestimate wood. ...

Re: Erik's Multiplayer scenarios

Deploying my heavy hitters next to the coast did not go as well as I would have liked in Watchtower, so I'm not sure it was that pressing a fix... Curious about the sub change though, what does NC mean? I'm feeling a bit smug about my knowledge of military trivia right now :D There was an article on...

Re: Erik's Multiplayer scenarios

Whoops guess I jumped the gun thinking it was Chema who took the Watchtower matches, but since another tweak was needed all worked out in the end. This is the first time I've played C3 as the axis and really felt like it could go either way :D Even my weird little mistake with the Italian special fo...

Re: Erik's Multiplayer scenarios

Looks like Chagi grabbed both Watchtower scenarios while I took both C3. If there are more changes (and maybe not after all the fixes! :) ) we can alternate next time.

Re: Erik's Multiplayer scenarios

So if I understand correctly there's been a workaround for the spawning core reserve (this is complicated!) unit issue? Let me know when adjusted scenarios are available so I can jump right back in :D

Re: Erik's Multiplayer scenarios

I ended up surrendering to Aemil, they earned the win in Watchtower. Although once I get a feel for this new version... The business of keeping enemy ships away from unit spawn points was interesting but ultimately more trouble than it was worth I guess. Never could figure out if I wasn't getting th...

Re: Erik's Multiplayer scenarios

I'm curious about the resource change. So far playing as the allies I've been able to afford elite replacements for everything and still have a large surplus left over. The construction units are definitely welcome. Should be an interesting change of pace for the allies to have their aircraft operat...

Re: Erik's Multiplayer scenarios

Interesting! I think I've done okay (with the occasional exception. Aemil. ;) ) for the most part in the earlier versions but they've always been fun.

Re: Erik's Multiplayer scenarios

Although the latest version of C3 starts off feeling like it has a lot of the same issues as earlier versions, albeit to a lesser degree, getting deeper into the map turn-wise makes it quite interesting. The Italian navy is large enough and concentrated enough to be a real threat. The UK still has t...

Re: Erik's Multiplayer scenarios

For the longest time I was fixated on huge maps, specifically one called The Russian Campaign by Parreigo. If you're comfortable with something that size, it has a lot to recommend it. For one thing since your starting forces dwarf any reinforcements there's far less of an advantage from previous ex...

Re: Erik's Multiplayer scenarios

You should try Operation Watchtower Steve, I think it's one of Erik's best :D The actual objectives are a bit confusing I think but if you approach it as a straightforwards naval slugfest it's amazing!
