Aha, I see. i may have changed alliances somewhere along the line before I started play-testing this campaign.
It's an easy fix and I'm happy I do not have to check every mine-infested scenario I've created...

Why should you be required to change the ownership after you've placed a neutral mine? This is either a bug or poor implementation. Mines should have no ownership trait, similar to recon. The mines work fine (are invisible) as soon as the game starts. They should be invisible in the deployment phase...

Neutral mines' 'ownership' is visible during the deployment phase. The surprise element is thus lost...

I think this is a new issue in 7.1.6

Aggression level of say 75 works ok for Japanese (and other attack-minded factions) as a general setting. I've also used it for specific AI-teams in some scenarios whenever the situation warranted it. Similarly you could give the ie the Italians a lower aggro level than the default 50. Setting it at...

You should post the Polikarpov incident in the Tech support forum. Sounds odd.
A save game file or a screenshot would help in trying to find out what happened.
Note that an armored vehicle may not be able to spot a concealed infantry unit in a town or other dense terrain.

Except there are 24 scenarios in the Afrika Korps campaign....not all desert scenarios of course.

I'd rather prefer the devs changed the other barely-recognizable rough desert variants to look similar to the single one which stands out on the map.

I have already decided to take another look at the air units in Bulge/Rhein.
I removed a number of units and renamed others in the version we are playing. This probably screwed up the withdrawal triggers (there are a number on the Luftwaffe side).

Some of us would not like the game to be updated automatically without having a say in when to update.
The 'Check update' button works as intended for me.
I usually go to the member site, download any patches and install them whenever convenient.
