Re: Panzer Corps 2 - Dev Diary #8

We can discuss realism all day, as long as we always remember what makes the Panzer General and Corps a success: The fact they allow you to unrealistically build hero units that you can keep throughout a campaign. Everything else must be subordinate to this. Detailed supply? Better AI? Tweaked equip...

<Off topic> Poland Low Countries France Sealion Barbarossa Early Moscow USA USA USA done.... That's really short, imagine punching more holes into that with opt outs? :? And regarding those triple USA scenarios at the end... two of them were not originally planned for the game. Meaning the shortest ...

Re: Panzer Corps 2 - Dev Diary #8

Yes, I trust that the GUI will be customizable to allow us older fans with poor eyesight to play the game too. The way Panzer Corps is old and crude with today's graphics standards; that it doesn't default to (or even support) high resolutions, is actually a huge boon, since it makes all the numbers...

Re: Panzer Corps 2 - Dev Diary #8

I welcome additional rules to enhance naval warfare, but I fear that the developers may be taking it too far at the expense of simplicity and fun. This. The dev post is decent enough - if read as a wish-list, from which later the darlings will be killed, with only a select few features that really ...

Re: How has the A.I been improved ?

I don't think the Chess vs Panzer discussion is adding much, I'm afraid. Even if the strategic layer would be much more difficult than chess, that's not what the computer needs most, and it isn't what most people think of when they discuss "stupid AI". After all, as long as the game takes us from on...

Re: How has the A.I been improved ?

For all those clamoring for better AI: Careful what you wish for. Personally I would say the predictability and simplemindedness of PG/PC AI is one of the game's greatest strengths. As someone said upthread, "sometimes the computer needs to be stupid". Having the AI relentlessly hunt down any unit y...

Re: Panzer Corps 2 - Dev Diary #6

If Rudankort hadn't answered so politely and nicely, I'd have said "Molve got burned". But he was great with examples of people's varied play styles and explained his insider thinking brilliantly, so let's just say I think Rudankort just won here. Sorry, I don't mean to start a flame war but rather...

Re: Panzer Corps 2 - Dev Diary #6

This made me remember two experiences I had with the old Panzer General-era Five Stars series. The modern game (Modern General? Don't remember) failed because the devs forgot what makes this sort of game fun - unrealistic survivability of hero units. I didn't play it too much; one early scenario fea...

Re: Panzer Corps 2 - Dev Diary #6

Well you are free to disagree, but it doesn't make you any more correct than it makes me incorrect. It's just a difference of opinion. But I will not malign recon unit types when there is a clear and useful purpose to them, that I readily use and make good use of, though perhaps it's not the one yo...

Re: Panzer Corps 2 - Dev Diary #6

An interesting point of view, if one I do not subscribe to. Though I think it's awesome that recon is so flexible as to exist in such a dual state. I wonder if it would actually be better if recon was so good that it was absolutely required to use... Would that alternative really be better what we ...

You seem to have answers for everything Rudankort. :) Here's one question I bet you will find impossible to answer: Why are there two threads named "Dev Diary #6"? ;) http://www.slitherine.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=464&t=88512 http://www.slitherine.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=58&t=88511 Both start wit...

Re: Panzer Corps 2 - Dev Diary #6

That said, calling them total wastes of slots and money is too much hyperbole to ignore. The problem is that recon units aren't presented as an "advanced" feature of the game. With all respect Kerensky, but your reply isn't helpful, since "just become an expert player like me" is not constructive. ...

Re: Panzer Corps 2 - Dev Diary #6

Generating random maps with seas begs the question: how do ships get on the map? The ships get on the map via Purchase screen, like in the good old Pacific General. This can happen both on deployment phase and in the middle of a scenario. I could separate ship slots from other slots, like PacGen di...

In fact, I hope you won't be angry if I say I am thankful I pressed you on this, because now we have lots more context to the feature! ;)

Re: Panzer Corps 2 - Dev Diary #6

Generating random maps with seas begs the question: how do ships get on the map? (In PC you never actually build ships, as you know. The war would basically be over between commissioning a cruiser - let alone a carrier! - and actually completing the build...) Of course I realize purchased naval unit...

Re: Panzer Corps 2 - Dev Diary #1

Different players have different preferences. Many people don't want to take any chances and in fact get annoyed when they miss a certain cool unit in their campaign. This is exactly the reason why topics like this exist. This approach is also not so good from replayability perspective, because you...

Re: Panzer Corps 2 - Dev Diary #4

I can certainly understand your frustration. But there is also a strong reason why recons are implemented the way they are. Recon movement has built-in penalties for partial moves, because otherwise people would always move them hex by hex. Why take risks when the end result is always the same? As ...

Re: Panzer Corps 2 - Dev Diary #1

Captured units. Captured units in Panzer Corps campaigns were so popular, we’ve decided to make them a part of core game mechanics. When you force enemy unit to surrender, its equipment is captured and added to a pool. Later you can use this pool to create new units or replenish existing ones for f...

Re: A better AI that trys to win not just delay!

The primary question: Is good AI good for the game? I'd argue it is not. Having stupid AI makes for a more satisfying game experience. This game is solidly in the beer and pretzels category of games, after all. As a scenario designer, of course better AI would be a godsend. But the customer isn't bu...

Re: US Corps '42 - ? (Ultimate)

Scenario 5 '43: San Fratello The focus for this map was on the main objective, San Fratello in the south. Defending it were some very strong units, some on fortification hexes, backed by artillery. The key here being hugging them and not allowing room for maneuvering to attack my more vulnerable ta...
