Re: Field of Glory II: Medieval preview videos - the battle of Hastings.

I did some quick testing, and indeed higher difficulty does seem to provide your opponent in Epic battles additional forces. Thank you :) I am also doing another play through and, indeed the difficulty setting does affect the number of troop points available. Must have missed that reference in the ...

Re: Field of Glory II: Medieval preview videos - the battle of Hastings.

I realise that this video was from the beta, so may I ask if that 'Epic Battle' was subsequently adjusted? The reason why I am asking is because the forces deployed are markedly different from those that I encountered last night (post release version). That is taking into account the variation possi...

Re: The Standard Wagon

As you say, it isn't needed in practice. The rule was only instituted to stop players from keeping their Standard Wagon safe at the back of the map. If they don't try to exploit the rules by putting the Standard Wagon in odd positions, they should never encounter the issue of it not counting. Cheer...

Re: The Standard Wagon

The only further question that comes to mind is what defines the centre of an army It is the average of the X and Y positions of all of the non-routed on-map units in the army, weighted 2:1 in favour of non-light units. Thank you. Obviously as the battle progresses the 'centre' will shift position,...

Re: The Standard Wagon

Here is the section from the manual: manual.jpg The effect of the latter paragraph is that they are extremely difficult to destroy. Why didn't didn't we use a simply CT modifier for having a standard wagon? Because it would be OP if it affected the whole army, and it would not reflect their histori...

The Standard Wagon

Please excuse the impatience, but could some one please explain to me how the Standard Wagon unit is suppose to be used in this game? Having watched some of the YouTube videos circulating at the moment, I am left confused as to whether this unit exerts a unique zone of influence as it were, or is pu...

These may be of interest. War in the Middle Ages by Phillippe Contamine (translated by Michael Jones). Warfare in Feudal Europe 730-1200 by John Beeler. Anglo-Norman Warfare Edited by Mathew Strickland. Also for a more general introduction, there is always The Art of War in the Middle Ages by Oman. ...

Re: New FOG2 DLC?

My interpretation of the snippets we have available in the code is that late medieval pikemen will be something akin to pike and shot keils, ie resistant to flank attacks. The nitty-gritty specifics of that are of course completely up in the air. By the way does anyone know how "keil" is ...

Re: New FOG2 DLC?

Perhaps Slitherine could consider outsource the modelling to accelerate the developing speed. that would seem to make sense? there are a lot of people out there who can do 3D models and textures. But, maybe they just really want a consistent art style and feel that only that one guy can do it right...

Mord.
It will probably cover a couple of hundred years.
Funny guy
I imagine this has more to do with Slitherine's enthusiasm then Byzantine Games.

Re: New FOG2 DLC?

This inquiry has been raised before, some months ago now. The official response has been that the development of the game is still supported and something ' ... big ... ' is being worked on and, by implication now for a number of months; personally I would hope that does not mean the co-opting of fa...

Re: How about new DLCS?

You have entirely the wrong impression. Slitherine is fully on board with the "next big thing" in FOG2. But it is a big thing, and hence takes time to develop. For some reason I find myself wondering about FOG2 and 'Empires'. Perhaps, this next big thing involves more than one Developer a...

Re: ZOCs blocking break-offs.

However, this discussion is going off at a significant tangent from the theme of the thread and, it is apparent may I suggest, that 'RBS' would like it o come to a close. So I will comment no further and accept that no argument on either side will change the view of the other. As previously stated....

Re: ZOCs blocking break-offs.

The theories that really raised stirrups on the pedestal basically presumed that without stirrups the riders could barely hold on the their horses which is not accurate (check the ancient military saddles: http://www.seatsofempire.com/ancient.html). The same theories also presume that with stirrups...

I am aware of criticisms of White's theory, but that was more about social economic change.

Re: Heavy Weapon anti-armour effect revamp

I see your point, but may I suggest there is a direct correlation between the advancement of production methods and the 'speed' of the arms race; as the pace increase do the changes. :)

Re: ZOCs blocking break-offs.

When one throws an object the power comes from a solid base that the body pushes against, hence the advantage of having one's feet in stirrups. However, the power from a bow shot comes from across the shoulders and back. Whilst stirrups would certainly be of some benefit, it would be negligible comp...

Re: Heavy Weapon anti-armour effect revamp

With respect to game mechanics, perhaps HW could reduce the maximum armour value. The need for a heavy weapon is to redress the advantage of better armour. Then when a weapon is superior there is the push to develop better protection, and the cycle begins again; I believe it is called the 'arms race...

Re: ZOCs blocking break-offs.

Here is a suggestion offer up for consideration. Add an additional classification of stirrup to the appropriate latter period cavalry units. Give stirrup cavalry +50 POA to melee armed troops both impact and melee, possibly javelin armed missile fire but not I would suggest bow armed fire. Thus I su...

Re: Heavy Weapon anti-armour effect revamp

I have followed this discussion throughout the afternoon, but have not had the opportunity to comment sooner. As the various points in the posts above have been raised I do wonder what is the definition of Heavy Weapon and, given that we are discussing the late Dark Age, Feudal and beyond, whether i...
