Re: Heroes assignment
I began in SCW and off the bat (thanks Killer Team) I got 2 Zero Slots plus Double Attack! What phenomenal luck! My next three heroes were No Surrender (blah), Lightning Attack (good), and another Double Attack (hurray!). But I'm near the end of the campaign now and I have gotten total shit since. ...

Re: Should Panthers be cheaper?
ANother funny thing about the what ifs of WW2 is that they almost exclusively deal with the Germans...never what if Britain did xyz or something. Getting way off topic, but the most common what ifs about Britain in WW2 are (a) what if it sued for peace after France fell; (b) what if it declared war...

Re: Should Panthers be cheaper?
I guess the only real way to stop getting only the best all the time Would be to have strength point limits for practically everything, so treat all units like prototypes where you only have limited availability but more generous in SP allocation. This could go someway to say there's only so many T...

Re: Unit scale
The WW2 German 105mm artillery piece had a range of about 10,000 yards, and in PC2 their range is 3 hexes which is typical of other nation's 105's too. Using those maths as a rough guide, each hex is therefore about 3,300 yards wide, or almost 2 miles. That's an ingenious way to estimate hex size. ...

From a Beta Sticky, should be updated and added to main forum Am I right in thinking the beta forum is not public? I can't see it. For the PzC1 GC, the beta forum was opened. I wasn't involved in the beta, but years after the fact, used to like reading the relevant beta threads whenever I replayed ...

Re: SCW - What's the Point?
Instead of defend, what i rarely use, i would need a new order: "hold without touching my prestige". Prestige is my reputation in the german OKW, why should that be needed for the spanish to get supplies ? (which the germans didnt deliver - or did they drop large amounts of supplies during national...

Which favorite GC scenarios would you like to see in Axis Operations?
One thing I really liked about the GC was the variety of scenarios - it stopped it getting stale. But there were some which stood out. I know not everyone will agree, but there are some of my favorites that I would like to see again in Axis Operations: 1. City fights: the Stalingrad scenarios were p...

Re: I dont like ai allies...
Spain is a bit different from Stalingrad or the Afrika Korps, in that the Condor Legion was supporting Franco's men. It doesn't really make sense to command them. By contrast, Rommel was in command of the Italians in the desert. I'm not sure about Von Paullus, but presumably he commanded the army in...

With Panzer Corps 2 I can't get past the graphics, Apologies for repeating what I posted a page back, but have you checked this thread about sharpening up the graphics: viewtopic.php?f=464&t=97713 I am not sure what you don't like about the graphics - for me, it was a combination of things seeming ...

Re: Please let Panzer Corps 2 live up to the untapped potential of the Grand Campaign
...The Grand Campaign was the first example of this type of game where your briefing officer took on a more human character, rather than just a generic, faceless general, Field Marshall Haberman had a distinctive character and was quite a likable fellow. ... Nice post, Monkspider. I've played the G...

Re: What do Panzer Corps veterans feel about PzC2?
I tried, but there is still this problem of uninformative 3D, so I prefer the 2D counters, which tells the function of the unit (reco, tact bomb, etc). And the terrain is still not enough contrasted. Good 2D map with counters is still needed for this game, if 3D is still failling. If I had particip...

Re: The slot system
It's a good system, but could use some tweaking. The example given in another thread of a T-34/40 compared to a T-34/41 comes to mind, as one where the extra core slot doesn't seem warranted - either in gameplay or history. I don't think it is a problem for minor upgrades not to cost an extra slot. ...

Re: Barbarossa Campaign
The massive siege gun Karl something or other) you can first buy in the Barbarossa Central scenario is great in the Moscow map. It really shines against heavy tanks and against heavily entrenched infantry - which to be honest, are the two major challenges in PzC2, at least in the East. I am starting...

Re: Barbarossa Campaign
The trick to Moscow is go heavy on infantry. The key is the city itself - you want a lot of infantry backed always by artillery to work methodologically through the urban areas, strongpoint by strongpoint. Engineers are your cutting edge but regulars are absolutely fine to bulk out your numbers if b...

Re: Are attack values high enough?
In terms of ground combat, I like the lethality being a bit low - although I am playing on the balanced setting, not Generalissimus (when your units get an accuracy debuff?). I found earlier PG type games got a little annoying in that one causal error could wipe out your precious veteran unit, parti...

Re: Infantry close defence
Historically we saw such troops doing their work in places like Monte Cassino (German paratroops) or Stalingrad (Soviet assault/submachinegun teams.) The original Panzer corps represented this: paras were great at fighting infantry due to high initiative and Soviet SMG teams were a nightmare to han...

Re: Infantry close defence
I agree with Horseman. I think you could remove the engineers higher CD and things would be better balanced. From a historical perspective, I don't see why combat engineers should be particularly good at defending - their flamethrowers and high explosives are more to neutralize enemy defenses (negat...

Re: What do Panzer Corps veterans feel about PzC2?
There is an interesting set of videos on YouTube by an engineer with a photographic memory playing the GC and he virtually never loses a single point. Who is this? Id' love to see that. I have a very good memory and played the DLCs numerously, but still in some scenarios I forget and they jump at m...

Re: Half-tracks or Trucks?
In most earlier PG type games. half-tracks were almost essential in Russia due the mud and snow. (I suspect the same was true about the North African desert). I am thinking especially of Moscow 1941 type scenarios. However, in PzC2, I have got past Stalingrad without using half tracks and not really...

Re: Any tips for using StuG/Marder type units?
I am not sure how PC2 is in the endgame scenarios, but in the PC GC from 1943 onwards, Soviet armour could wreck PzIVs. The AT support ability might allow them to be used for longer. Kursk would be where I would imagine SPAT might shine. So far - up to Stalingrad - I haven't been too threatened by S...
