Re: Scythed Chariots - just a waste of points??

While I'm sure they can be used well if carefully kept in reserve, for most army lists I consider them too expensive and fragile and I pretty much never take them. They can be ruthelssly taken out if caught even by inferior units, all they need to do is last one turn an wham, no more scythed chario...

Re: Nasty weapons! SLINGS

Xenophon says in his Anabasis that his slingers were able to outrange enemy archers and keep them away from his troops.

Superior high-range slingers in FOG 2 when?

Re: Tone down Missile Troops?

Mass bowfire is among the most annoying things to deal with but Bowman are exceedingly terrible in hand to hand and are usually not nimble enough to evade combat for long. Try screening your main hoplite line with skirmishing light troops. Even if they rout from missile casualties, they will not st...

Re: Field of Glory II: Xenophon's Anabasis Campaign

Final Word: The game is great, but this campaign stunk. In regards to the setting: this campaign barely made any use of the source material. I sincerely doubt that the author of this campaign has ever read any of Xenophon's works. The author should have just made a fictional set of battles and kept...

Re: Field of Glory II: Xenophon's Anabasis Campaign

Final battle. It's with Agesilaus and it's dated to 394, so it's pretty clearly the second Battle of Coronea. http://keksociety.com/XenophonAAR/Turn6/Coronea.jpg If you want to read the historical account from Xenophon it's in his Hellenica. Basically it's a large and brutal hoplite battle that resu...

Re: Field of Glory II: Xenophon's Anabasis Campaign

http://keksociety.com/XenophonAAR/Turn5/combat.jpg This marks the end of the Anabasis; we are going to war under Thibron. I have to leave some units behind, so I ditch a lot of my medium foot and a few skirmishers. Here's the new unit list, I only have 50 points so I grab some more Cretan archers (...

Re: Field of Glory 2 - DLC #2 looking for beta testers

Please note that to take part in this beta you must have a Slitherine (not Steam I am afraid) release copy of Field of Glory II installed on your PC, otherwise this beta will not run Ah! This was not on the Beta sign-up screen, sorry. I would like to help, but I don't have a Slitherine release copy.

Re: Field of Glory II: Xenophon's Anabasis Campaign

Time to save the Thracian! https://image.ibb.co/b2MPCw/Thracian.jpg We just got back to Greek lands and we're already taking a new assignment. Xenophon agrees to join Seuthes in the last book of the Anabasis, and there are a few little skirmishes/battles that take place. Here are the terms of battl...

Re: Field of Glory II: Xenophon's Anabasis Campaign

What?? I'm in Thrace already? Great, I'm kind of disappointed, but whatever. I thought I'd have some nice mountain battles, a contentious river crossing, etc. The sort of stuff that happened when Xenophon and the 10,000 had to march all the way back from the interior of Asia. Whatever. I should poi...

Re: Field of Glory II: Xenophon's Anabasis Campaign

https://image.ibb.co/nD07xw/party_bus.jpg All right, time to protect the baggage! Despite my tactical brilliance in the last battle, the King has been auto-killed and now I have to guard the baggage as we... walk all the way back to Hellas? I've never done a protection mission before, but here goes...

Re: Small suggestions thread

I’m not an expert of this era. Was there any historical urban battle recorded? People can definitely make one if they like (like the Battle of Pyeongyang in Sengoku Jidai). The building blocks are all there. There is a Battle of Alesia already made by a user for FoG2 which is a fort assault scenari...

Re: Small suggestions thread

Is there a button to remove the banners, if only temporarily/while pressed? The banners are informative, sure, but they are also kind of ugly and clutter up the screen. This ruins some screenshots, and there are times when I'd rather just look at the battlefield without these floating flags everywh...

Re: Field of Glory II: Xenophon's Anabasis Campaign

Great AAR so far! That's quite a victory tally. It seems like some of your pics look zoomed in closer than I'm able to on my game. Are they just edited screenshots or have you modified the zoom somehow? Thanks. I have the difficulty level set to Governor, and I turned the progressive difficulty set...

Battle of Cunaxa http://keksociety.com/XenophonAAR/Turn2/Battle_of_Cunaxa.jpg Time to put the true Great King on the throne of Persia! I did not get to design the army for this battle. It looks like they took my damaged units from the first battle, and then stuck them in a large army that featured ...

Re: Source of the quote used in the release announcement

There is no source about this. It is a hoax which firstly been know as a chain letter email. Thanks, you are probably right. I was thinking it might be a paraphrase of a story from a medieval source, but I've stopped looking. I guess it was some modern author who played loose with the truth to make...

Re: Source of the quote used in the release announcement

Kratero got changed into Kratisto by the propagandists. Craterus was leading the last replacement army from Macendon to Babylon, and he was best suited to speak for/represent the Macedonian electorate that wouldn't be able to show up in Babylon. Macedonian 'elections' were supposed to be the entire...

Re: Source of the quote used in the release announcement

Alexander famously said that his empire should go to the strongest, and it only gets retranslated as worthiest in English. But if you know ancient Greek you'll realize that what he was probably trying to say is that the his empire should go to Craterus ('stronger') who was decide what was to happen...
