I'd like to be able to adjust experience-related bonuses, notably by increasing defence and initiative bonuses for recon (to represent their ability to hide and react better). BiteNibbleChomp did a roman mod - I don't think it was finished, but you might be able to find it oif you search by name.
He also did a Mongols one which was pretty good -at least as far as I got.

You can have up to three initiative heroes.
The change was to limit them to +1 per hero rather than +1 to +3 except for special heroes like Oleh Dir.

Long range tanks can be dangerous. One possibility is to maybe have a switch from normal to long range. The other thing with SPAA is that defensive fire against fighters and tac bombers gives the attacker -5 defence penalty - that's usually 2 or 3 extra kills, and it can do this every attack unlike a fighter which can do only defend once. Many AK scenarios include non-desert terrain, so move heroes can be useful.
They do seem to work for towed artillery, AA and AT at all times - and for me the move hero on any of these units is the most useful of all.

I think AK reaches a maximum of 8 SE units at the end - it's a while since i played so not 100% sure. There are some capturable SE units available, which if I recall correctly can put you over the official SE unit count for a few scenarios. This doesn't matter much if you happily accept what you get...

Greek Mountain infantry also have SA 6.
Fortunately it's not too hard to change the equipment file if it's causing a problem.

The 50% move for infantry and 20% for vehicles negates move heroes which is a bit annoying. I wouldn't mind but I haven't yet worked out the full set of changes needed to mod movement changes so that they work - when I've tried edits, it usually throws a wobbly and crashes the game.

Strategic bombers are good with D3 hero. Attack is a bit better, but as strat bombers work best with high overstrength which is expensive.
