Re: FOG N 2nd Edition - it's back!

I like the 1809 Austrian Army in Italy. Reason being you can have 2 skirmisher attachments per division. With skirmishers being reasonably cheap now I find it works fairly well.

Sent my list in to Richard. Giving the 1809 Austrians a go.

Re: 4th Victorian FOG N Championships

It's good to hear you are considering dropping the hand to hand re-roll for Guard. I mentioned to Brett during the comp that I thought it should be dropped in favour of re-instating the re-roll for morale. Guard is really about morale after all. That's consistent with them ignoring hits etc. Having ...

Re: NICon 2017

Terrific comp. Thought the rule changes all worked very well. Definitely more decisive games but still with that strong Napoleonic flavour that V1 gave.
Enjoyed all my games immensely :)

Re: v2 lists - Lances

There are already some examples of this approach in the army lists. Many of the 1814 German Confederation cavalry ("Hanseatic cavalry" in the list) were equipped with lances, but are classified as Average Conscript LC without lance capability. Good point Philip. Looking at the lists again...

Re: v2 lists - Lances

I love my Prussians. However, being so obsessed with them means I have read heaps about them. Everywhere you find references to the Landwehr cavalry being ineffective as lancers. Certainly during the 1813 campaigns many had none at all, although this is catered for in the lists. Their performance in...

Re: FOG N 2nd Edition - it's back!

The ACV change for large units is a really good innovation. Their advantages are legion and the last thing we want is armies that can have lots of them getting an extra bonus for being hard to break. As regards the 3mu push back at close range, I have said before that I find this very gamey. As some...

Re: V2 Army Lists

Basis for the Grenz thinking: 1. They were Permanently organised into regiments, although of a militia variety. 2. Along with the Hungarian Grenadiers, their French enemies rated them highly. 3. They fought formed up as often as they fought in skirmish formation. 4. They seem to feature at the shar...

Re: V2 Army Lists

I'm sure it's been mentioned before but the Russian Guard Cossacks need to be re-classified in all the lists they appear.
Instead of Irregular/Guard they should be average or superior/drilled/guard/lancers.

Re: FOG N 2nd Edition - it's back!

just saw "all intercepts require a cmt"! That's a pretty big change that is going to create a lot of cmt use in opponents turn, something that is pretty rare at the moment. Not sure this is a great idea. Now cavalry not only don't reduce infantry fire by much but they often wont intervene...

Re: FOG N 2nd Edition - it's back!

Fair enough Brett, I hadn't really realised that. Probably hadn't come up before. I know what you mean about the unreformed troops. However, not having to pull back out of 2mu means that getting hit for 3 is no more upsetting than getting hit for 2. At close range I would think this would be a real ...

Re: FOG N 2nd Edition - it's back!

Played my first game ( finally ) of V2 on the weekend. I have to say as someone who went into it with a slightly negative attitude, I came away very impressed. Biggest difference was to the speed of getting things happening. Even though I was using 1805 Russians there were no problems getting stuck ...

Re: Determined Horse points benchmark

The points in the official proposal represent a significant reduction for DH. With all the advantages that DH have over Horse I fear this latest suggestion is a step too far. But, Geoff, you've always thought that the DH/Horse interaction was 'about right' which many don't agree with, and I think c...

NICon 2017

Just a call out to the Kiwi contingent. Will there be a Fogn tournament at NICon this year? If yes will it be on the 3rd/4th of June?
Not sure if I can make it at this stage but keen to confirm dates for planning purposes.

Re: FOGN tournament in Sydney

Hi all,
We still only have 5 confirmed for the comp. We have to confirm one way or the other with the venue. As it stands it is not worth running. However, if anyone has booked flights/accommodation etc. Please let me know by this Tuesday night. I will make the final call then.
