Your heavy infantry is most probably not the optimal unit to fight in these conditions in any case. FOG II, the tactical game, handles terrains penalties differently indeed. As long as you had fun, that's good :D

Autosave are not really relevant in PBEM as everything is on a distant server.

You seem to not even damage them, given the battle ends with all their units but one in green. So yes, there must be a bad combination of factors. You must watch the battle and see what happens in the duels to improve your game. There you'll perhaps see that the enemy general gives a bonus in forest...

Textures are just graphic files, if you keep the same size (and even that is flexible!) and save in the right format, then you are good to go :D

Cataphractae can be recruited in the region where you have built the Castrum Cataphractae. Checking the data, I see nothing preventing the Seleucids from doing so.

It means that if you have 3 citizens and 7 slaves, then a newborn population have 30% chance of being a citizen and the rest of being a slave.

Loki is right. Faction order is randomized in each impulse, so you never know if Rome or Carthage will get to move first in a given impulse. Often it does not change much, as regions cost several movement points, but when you only need this last point to get 'out of dodge' so to speak, then you bett...

The mosaic waves you mean? That's a texture, you can replace it with a plain brownish one if you like.

Initially the game intent was more beer-and-pretzel than it ended up, and so the 200+ nations had a unit roster derived from the 15 or so ethnicity defined, with only the major nations having a custom unit roster. Bactria was not part of the major nations list.

You need to have the pirate ships in your list of allowed units, this is probably the issue. A few nations have it while not having the lair, but 90% that can build a pirate ship also have the pirate lair.

I'll answer on the tier and tokens. Getting tokens from objectives does not magically grant you a good CDR ratio, so you can still be in the bottom tier, and then lose the gained tokens.

No, buildings are not removed if you have not enough population (providing building slots), rest assured.
