Re: So I played the game a little.
Things are moving in a positive direction. The current version of the game is way better than the original beta version. It needs major improvements to move from "worse than alpha centauri," to "worse at somethings with interesting changes worth looking at." It's difficult because AC is one of the g...

Well, a little blunt, but pretty much spot on.

Re: My First Impression
Now that changes things. How random are we talking here? Randomizing the connections between techs? Or randomizing which techs exist at all?It will be randomized.

Re: My First Impression
The tech tree is left not fully explored because we want to keep the feeling of exploration constant throughout the game, seeing too far ahead we think will remove some of that pioneering experience, as well as the fact that it is more realistic that way, you never know where technology will lead y...

Re: Version 0.10.1 Released
All of these sound like improvements. Addressing city borders growth and tile ownership is a nice surprise. I was worried that was getting overlooked.

Re: Number of Cities Maintenance
1) connect a city to your headquarters with a road 2) build a Harbour building in a coastal city. I would probably add the Forbidden Palace to that list. It's a large project which lets you build an additional headquarters somewhere else. I would really like to see roads and shipping trade networks...

Re: Upcoming Pollution & Morale Changes
I definitely think changing from pollution working off of production to being based on population assignment will be an improvement. It will make it much easier to predict and reason about. I also like making negative moral more of a penalty than positive moral is a bonus. Changing tile improvements...

Re: Number of Cities Maintenance
Heh, you should see how it was a few weeks ago. Every city gave you free resources as well, and the early production boosting buildings were +4 flat bonuses, and there was no monetary decay with distance from the capital. So they're making major strides to reign it in. A cost per city would help, bu...

Re: Bug: Xeniteflowers doesn't boost headquarters
Yeah, I know it's a human drug
I figure that buildings would be affected to, the headquarters isn't actually doing the production itself, it's the human staff working there. Really though, it's just my sense that a +50% modifier means exactly what it says, unless it is qualified in some way.

Re: Bug: Xeniteflowers doesn't boost headquarters
Ok. The way I expect modifiers to work is more like:
If the help text was modified to say "50% bonus to worker production than it would be more clear.
Code: Select all
sum[all production sources] * product[all percentage modifiers]

Bug: Xeniteflowers doesn't boost headquarters
For some reason, the +50% bonus from xenite flowers doesn't modify production from the headquarters building. I don't know if this is deliberate to prevent running out of minerals, but it's a weird inconsistency.

Re: Grand plan for the game
If certain techs were limited to certain factions that could pretty strongly differentiate them, but will make balance a lot more difficult probably. Although as it is the factions are pretty unbalanced right now anyways.

Re: Quirken's Impressions & Thoughts
Is it pollution from the added production causing a moral penalty that reduced growth?

Re: My first few hours
It's not obvious, but it's clean and convenient once you know how to do it. Maybe just pointing out that you can rename things by clicking on their title in a tutorial popup would do the trick.

Re: Flame tanks
To be honest, I probably won't do to much with it right now. I was messing around with the xml files and wanted to see how much I could do. Figured it would be fun to try and cook up some of my own terrain features. I'm a pretty lousy modeler though, so it would probably end up being a kind of dead ...

Re: Flame tanks
That would explain it. I tried treating it like an Ogre XML file but it didn't work... I assume you do your modelling in a commercial editor though? Which means you must have a conversion tool to get it into your custom format. Any chance of releasing it? Good modding access would definitely be a bi...

What 3d editor reads your mesh format? It looks like it's pretty simple, but blender can't open it by default.

Flame tanks
It doesn't make any sense to me that you can't build flame tanks, so I changed it so that you could.
I like that a lot of the game is exposed in the xml files and modifiable.
