Re: Mixed battle Groups
Thanks - no one I play with has any better knowledge or grasp of these finer points of the rules than I do myself  ( neither has version 3 and one of them no version at all  so no illumination to be had there) . So that has saved me a lot of solitary rooting around re mixed BGs. It does ...

Mixed battle Groups
Can someone advise me please on how combined battlegroups work . They are not new I know but I have seldom used them much hitherto -only Byzantines under V 2.0 and not much even then .The third set of lists now provides rather more circumstances when I might, especially combined men at arms and long...

Mine too - whatever other issues there may have been re Caliver ( very clunky website) as a customer I find once you place an order it comes within a week at most, the last set of FOG(AM)lists came the next day!

Re: Scoring system for 2019 - Call for a vote...
I know a non comp player entering these lists is probably otiose  but I do plea that judgements on the value ( and debates to change them) of ANY rules set or game system should not solely be based on how they fare or are used in comps. Sure being written robustly enough to thrive in that envi...

Re: Any adjustments during Setup for smaller games?
One could try having a general rule that no battle group can be laid down within x (5?) MUs of one that has already been laid down by the opposing side? The value of the idea- and of x itself - is dependent on the table width as for some widths it would be otiose. It is a construct we are experiment...

Re: Swedish cavalry help?
Pax! That is pretty convincing evidence for which much thanks - so delete the guard heavy dragoons altogether. Makes me wonder just how much other stuff one would look to change with new or newly found material given the chance at a 2nd ed especially if some of my usual sources are proving not so re...

Re: Swedish cavalry help?
No offence taken! Genuine intelligent informed discourse is always welcome. I know too that you are pretty knowledgeable on this era and the previous century, so its fun. Just to follow up Digby Smith’s Napoleonic Wars Data Book under the Leipzig orders of battle for the Swedish Corps lists the Lieb...

Re: Swedish cavalry help?
There is clearly some ambiguity here over nomenclature. Not uncommon and in some armies names changed over the period even where roles did not. The confusion in the Austrian army at the turn of the century arose as Dragoons were merged with Cheveaulegers to form light Dragoons, a reform which was th...

Re: Books or themes?
Interesting point around what the BHGS Doubles have done. I Have felt for many years now that those A&M rules sets from the later WRG ones onwards, still tended to work best, or most consistently within that core 1000 year period and within that geographical limit . Might that be because in orde...

Re: Britcon 2019 - What would you like to do?
RE ICs and their ‘cost effectiveness As a non comp player ( as much to do with personal reasons as anything else - travel away from home overnight , no wheeled transport etc) maybe this might be seen as off topic but this issue has been raised here in this thread. Please don’t muck about with v 3.0 ...

Re: Using CIV III to make a Campaign Map
Thanks for the advice . So do you mean by "for the day" each time /day I want to use any of these games I have to do this sequence ? And undo it? Or does it do the latter when I switch off?

Re: Using CIV III to make a Campaign Map
 I know but its a long story. Something Microsoft di  But my previous - previous Vista based laptop still runs them all ...

Using CIV III to make a Campaign Map
This may be of interest to some who like to use original maps for campaigns but find endless reams of paper and coloured pens a drag and their imagination and artistry overtaxed easily jaded. WARNNG If you are not a CIV III user most of this will be gobbledygook to you so read no further! If you are...

Re: Version 3 Errata - and all that
I have played FOG(Nos 1 ,2 and now 3) but not in competitions. I find this version to be much better written , clearer and more concise with some good not to say clever, tweaks and changes . There are errata– but they are dealt with pretty swiftly and far quicker than in the pre internet days and lo...

Re: Shifting to FOG 2
I suspect the comment from Eques is because the Romans have been made a bit less effective in v2, and as I recall from his previous posts, he thinks Romans should beat all comers. I would say if anything Romans do better under V2. There are more armies designed for combat, so the Romans can get to ...

Re: Cavalry Tactics
Examples of tabletop tactics are especially useful - basic sound tactics are not as obvious as they are for infantry, and the opportunity to profit by being clever seems high. Yes and I think spotting and taking the opportunity to be patient and cautious can be successful. That is harder with caval...
