Re: Gaming in pubs

The Hong Kong club used to meet in the Mariners Hotel, cold beer and burgers bought straight to the table! In the 90s early 2000s the Rhinedahlen club in German was next to the bowling alley, had to fetch your own burgers, beer in the fridges and the South Somerset Wargames Group have played in vari...

Re: Impact/sword vs Pistol/Pistol

A problem with non historical opponents? I dont bother with more than one unit of Hussars in my Polish Army and if opposed by them usually manage to gang up at least 2 average P/P units which generally saves the day. It does mean that my Poles usually look similar to a standard TYW army, but I do ge...

Light Lance Vs Heavy Lance

Gents,

I have had a quick look around but found no answer. Is there a reason that Fully Armed Superior Gendarmes with heavy lance cost the same as with light lance yet are clearly at an advantage in Impact?

cheers

Re: Attacking across a river

But I get a total of 4 die for two units in column with no modifiers for fording or being in column where with a single 2 x 2 unit I would only get 3 die.

Re: Attacking across a river

Had my revenge, crossing with 2 units of Cav in column against a single unit defending the river bank, total of 4 dice each, with me at advantage and of course his hits split between two units. So it does pay to attack in column!

Re: Attacking across a river

It was out on a flank, a Horse face off my Parliamentarians vs Superior Cavaliers. I decided to fall back and defend a river with my Horse to give me a little help in the impact. His 3 die at 4 to my 4 die at 5. However by going into column there is no penalty. Not aware of any other set where charg...

Attacking across a river

I found out that horse trying to defend a river against Cavalry is not very good. The river counted as rough so - one dice for the attackers. However attacking in column meant they (Determined Horse) had two and the chaps (Horse) defending the river bank had 2 so no advantage fighting cavalry wading...

I need more fingers than I have to count the times my superiors have re-thrown their dice to fail again, twice replacing 6 1s with 6 2s!!

I think as the system allows one to use non historical formations choice of figures should not be an issue!

Re: Polish Winged Hussars Value

Just out of interest I have been looking on tinterweb for anything about their performance and they do seem rather good. I think I have also seen somewhere that the Poles did not perform very well on occasion, whether this was the Poles as a whole or the Hussars I cannot remember. Where is it writte...

Re: Polish Winged Hussars Value

I am more of a scenario based gamer than points and never competition based. For club nights I do use points, however what strikes me is that a Polish Army in the field say 1620-40 had a very large portion of Hussars, however for a club night game against a standard European army the only Hussars on...

So far they have not been worth the cost, better more units of Pancerni! How the Hussars got such a good reputation in History is a mystery!

Re: best all round army

Late Germans are good, Polish crap for the cost, as the post above said unless they are very very lucky in the initial charge they get stuffed in the following melee leading me to believe that historical paintings of them with pistols, maces, axes, bows, a couple of different types of sword the big ...
