Re: Need help with the DLC Grand Campaigns
I think the key is to remember that the DLC changes at Stalingrad. Pre-Stalingrad is literally a different game from Post-Stalingrad from a scenario design perspective. Another way to think of this is by comparing it to Total War: Shogun 2 ... in Shogun 2, Realm Divide literally changes the game... ...

Re: Favourite Scenarios - Enjoying So Far!
I like defensive scenarios. I also prefer scenarios where we don't have tons of units (too many units complicates it too much for me).

Re: Very upset.
One of the things I noticed about the AI was counter-attacks. The AI pays attention to the odds when deciding whether to attack a unit. The AI loves to attack artillery and unprotected bombers. The AI also likes to attack infantry that is not well entrenched or protected by artillery. So I try to pr...

Re: 42/43 West- where has my core gone!
Apparently some people have forced ships to surrender, which would be a good prestige boost, though I've never managed it myself. I have seen ships surrender (in the Taranto scenario where you can attack the Italian ships while they are stuck in the harbor), but I do not recall getting much if any ...

Re: DLC West Campaign Report
I'm not quite motivated enough to write up the 44 and 45 battles, but here are some of the results from the 1944 West campaign. Note that due to some scenarios that recommended against bringing air units, I increased the numbers of infantry and artillery in my core to compensate. I did not increase ...

Re: GC 45 West - Unplayable with Prestige Soft Cap?
I agree that the prestige soft cap changes your core significantly; I'm not sure that it is unplayable. Your pre-soft cap core had 2 SE grenadiers, 3 SE King Tigers, and 7 regular king tigers. Your post-soft cap core had 2 SE grenadiers, 2 SE TIgers, 1 SE Me410, 1 SE Me109g, 4 king tigers, and 1 tig...

Re: Tips on GC42/43 West
Below is my Dieppe AAR. The key I think is realizing that this is a city battle, so infantry is important to holding the city. Don't send tanks into attacks on city blocks, but you can use tanks defensively to control city parks, clear streets, etc. HQ has allocated a large number of additional unit...

Re: Eventual Scope of 40k IP
From a tabletop perspective, Warhammer 40k was squad based whereas Epic covered armies (and supported all of the factions). I'd love to see a game based on Epic. "Epic is a tabletop wargame set in the fictional Warhammer 40,000 universe. Whereas Warhammer 40,000 involves small battles between f...

Re: which infantry do you prefer (pre-1943)
My use of infantry has evolved. Lately, for prestige cap reasons, I've been buying trucks for move 2 infantry and letting move 3+ infantry go without a vehicle. I like regular infantry, gebirsjaeger, and pioneers. Oleh Dir becomes a pioneer. I have tried the paratroopers. The low price is great, but...

Re: Dratz! Did it again... What mistake you keep repeating?
I agree 100%. My favorite scenarios are defensive scenarios with less than 20 turns and less than 20 units.timek28 wrote:IMO scenarios should be less then 30 turns long, and core should be 30 units at max. All above that takes great toll in terms of stress and time. Albeit even in such case the game is fun

Re: Capturing forts?
One problem would be that some guns, fortifications, etc. are facing in a particular direction. Also the fort would be damaged somewhat in being captured. So, ideally, a captured fort should have reduced effectiveness.

Re: Experience cap?
Its not really a max, as units can have more XP than this. But it means that you can't gain any more xp once your unit hits 325 (or whatever the cap is). So for example, in West 45, your xp cap is reduced below the west 44 cap. So your elite units may actually have more xp than 325, but they can't g...

Re: IPAD 1944 West - Cassino My Campaign has been undermined
It is possible to get a decisive victory in Cassino without the mine fields, though the mine fields certainly help (and the minefields have more impact if used in this scenario than used in any other scenario in the campaign). I have found the key to avoid being chewed up is to pick the places you f...

Re: How upset do you get when you fail?
There are some scenarios where restarting eliminates major surprises, so you will end the scenario with considerably reduced losses since you know where the enemies are coming from. Personally, I play with the reform units option, which allows me to take some losses without crippling my core forces....

Re: Aircraft flightpath.
It can happen and has happened to me. I think that sometimes the default flight path is designed to do some scouting and remove fog of war for you on the way to a target hex. I know, it doesn't seem to make sense, but the plane can take a route that goes out of its way. First, remember that you will...

Re: Halftracks or Trucks?
Most of the below comments are based on the german army. Due to cost reasons, I almost always go with trucks. But I'd love to know how and where other people use halftracks. In the DLC, I usually have more turns than I need. So playing the DLC, I usually don't need Halftracks or trucks for movement ...

Re: Korsun pocket, craziest damn thing I've ever seen...
In a similar scripting move, the Anzio 1944 west scenario spawns a number of heavy weapons infantry units out of the objective cities. Or at least that's what I think the AI is doing, as I don't believe the infantry could have moved there out of the fog. I don't have a problem with Wassigny, as the ...

Re: Observation bombers in Minsk41 question
German Fallschirmjager have a low ground defense (5) with a 6 soft attack and 4 initiative. Contrast that with Wehrmacht Inf (ground defense 8, soft attack 4, initative 2) and Gebirsjager (ground def 7, soft attack 5, init 2). So Paras hit fast and hard, but if they are attacked, they can crumple du...

once a unit has three heroes
If you are playing a campaign and you have a unit with three heroes, do you continue to throw that hero into the fray, or keep the hero out to let other units get kills, or ? The advantage of throwing the hero into the fray is that the three hero unit is presumably among the best units you have, so ...
