Re: Autobreak

Hi.

Re pursuing and routers in FOGR. It may have changed, but I recall that it depends what is doing the pursuing. Rules for Cavaliers and Gendarmes pursuing were an exception to the general rule.
Otherwise the rules were essentially the same in both versions.

Re: Other Points Changes

I've always felt that the points for the regimental guns are about right. Whilst they give a boost to the combat capability of a unit (though no benefit in melee), they don't make the unit more resilient. Therefore I always question whether I would be better spending the points to put more actual tr...

Re: Other Points Changes

In a similar point, HtoH weapons for LH seem overpriced as there are limited times when they are much benefit, only really against their opposite numbers and dragoons. I guess it is a bigger point if two Eastern armies clash.

Re: What two things would a spruced up FoG:R have to have?

To me the effect of artillery for the period seems wrong. I know what the intention of the designers was, but as it stands, grand batteries in the Napoleonic style have the potential to blow big holes in the enemy. My suggestion, though admittedly it would seem a little clumsy until people got used ...

Re: Identifying 2nd Edition ?

That would be first edition going by that date. The layout and methods of the rules did not change, but there were numerous and often subtle changes to the details of the rules. In my opinion (and I think that of many others) it is more a V1.1 than V2. You will need to borrow a copy of a 2nd Ed, and...

Re: Artillery moving through FF

Agreed, no pivoting backwards if I recall correctly, but logically should be allowed (for artillery). One of those minor points that have bugged me from the start.

Re: Worlds 2015

I've emailed them a couple of times to ask to get my registration changed to FoGR.
No answer yet. I'll submit a FoGR list and see what happens!

Other Pike and Shot Formations

A question came up in a game today. Page 33, later battle groups. A unit of five shot one pike is reduced to three shot and one pike. The pike is in its starting position in the center rear rank. The player wishes to contract to a two two formation. The rule says that the pike should be in the cente...

Re: Impact resultant Cohesion Test

By my reckoning, -1 loosing impact -1 loosing to impact foot/lancers etc. -1 HP2B (Assumed) +1 commander +1 inspired commander So minus 1, need an eight to pass, so a 15 in 36 chance of passing. Of course other possible modifiers: +1 rear support -1 threatened flank -1 more than one reason to test (...

Re: to tell or not to tell

Just a couple of thoughts on this subject. My feeling is that describing the troops as you deploy them is one thing, regardless of how "fully". Once deployed, including generals, then I think might be the best time to go over which BG's belong to allies. After all, it would be hard to keep...

The second design is certainly what I'm after, as a decal.

Imperial Eagle decals

Does anyone know of a source of decals (water slide transfers) for Thirty Years War Imperial symbols, particularly the two headed eagle? I want them for the banners on 15mm figures. Small 25mm might work, and the two headed eagle from other eras wouldn’t be much different. I have some medieval two h...

Re: starter army

Hi Mark. One point I would make to consider when starting out is morph ability. It can be a trap to spend a lot of time on an army, and then find that it doesn’t work for you, and the figures can’t really be used for anything else. (Painted a whole Thracian army and used it in its own right only onc...

A qualifier to my previous reply.
If the Arq are LF then my reply stands.
If they are MF then that may change things. I think then that there will need to be a gap.

Re: Mid_Republican Roman Triarii

Yes that is correct. As triarii must be in BGs of 2 or 4 bases, this means that the H&P must be in multiples of 8 (or 16 if you don't want the Triarii as a 2 pack). Note also that if you are going to use either of the optional upgrade or downgrade, then the upgraded or downgraded "legions&q...

Re: Intercepts and evaders

Thanks for your replies everyone. Still seems a bit unclear though. The whole second last bullet point on page 86 appears to me to only be referring to "frontal" intercepts. In the previous bullet point the word "only" could be taken as referring to hitting the flank or rear only...

Intercepts and evaders

Not sure if this has been covered before. I looked at the section in the rules, but still uncertain. If you declare an intercept on the flank or rear of a charging unit that is normally capable of evading, does it have that option? If the original charge is cancelled, then I would assume so. But I c...

Re: Ambushing: Anyone do it?

I used to ambush regularly under a different rule set. Agreed that under FOG, the placement of terrain and troop types available in your list, often preclude the possibility. But I have still done it a number of times. One use is to get troops further forwards at deployment on the flank that you wan...

Re: Mid Roman Republic Centurions

As no one else has spoken up I'll give my opinion on this. Dress and equipment in the legions was only starting to become standardised in this period. It was still at this time (at least in theory) a citizens army. Even if many soldiers were being equipped from state "factories", a veteran...
