Re: Unable to complete a route?
An example would be a BG of cavalry one base deep. If hit front and rear by enemy and routed they cannot turn (because the bases are wider than they are deep). So it cannot complete it's rout move.

Re: Illustrated Examples - Threatened Flank and Rear Support
Rear support is at least all in one place in the rule book (page 134). I agree a diagram would have been useful. In working out rear support you need to consider a few things. Firstly, battle wagons and BGs facing in more than one direction (for example if hit in flank and some bases have turned) ne...

Re: Illustrated Examples - Threatened Flank and Rear Support
Hello Shamus, let me try and help on threatened flanks. Firstly, it only applies to battle troops (page 13), not skirmishers. The definition of threatened flank is on p135. There are two ways to have a threatened flank: - enemy battle troops could charge the flank/rear in their next turn. or - any p...

Re: disorder
if a mounted Bg is in say an enclosed field (rough going) and fighting a bg of camels, is it severly disordered due to being disordered for the enclosed field and discordered for the camels? They are disordered by the terrain and by the camels. But there is no multiplication of disorder. So they ar...

Re: Failed interpenetration
Correct. The first BG of Cavalry drops a cohesion level. The relevant rules reference for this is the last bullet on page 63 "must burst through...". So the LH must burst through the cavalry, who therefor drop a level. Then the words of the first bullet of the right hand side of page 65 are relevant...

Re: shooting 1 dice per two bases at 2 different BGs
so basically if say 70% of the BG of 4 bases in two ranks is facing one BG and the other 30% is facing another BG and if it is 1 die per 2, the one die is effectively wasted because you can't have half a die? It seems that the logical position would be that the 1 die should be allocted to one side ...

Re: shooting 1 dice per two bases at 2 different BGs
What I didn't mention was that also K3X3 is partially in front of the left K1 opposing BG , though less than half, if that makes any difference? X3 will shoot according to target priorities on p79. It's shooting from the position of K3. So the priority target is whichever enemy base is in effective...

Re: shooting 1 dice per two bases at 2 different BGs
That is interesting about the Xbow getting 1 dice per base rather than 1 per two. Is that version 3 or the same as vesrion 2? If in the example above, say it was bow* or back rank bow what would the answer be? What I didn't mention was that also K3X3 is partially in front of the left K1 opposing BG...

Re: shooting 1 dice per two bases at 2 different BGs
So in all cases where the back rank are shooters and the first rank are not then the back rank are counted as front rank and therefore get 1 dice per base? Yes, if they are in effective range (and cavalry only have an effective range. The relevant wording at the top of page 89 is "If the front rank...

Terry, I suggest you read the first part of the terrain rules on page 136. If you are playing outside of a competition, it says you can ignore some of the terrain rules. So why not agree something sensible for terrain with your opponent?

Re: Aztec vs Champa
Interesting match up between two different armies and a great game by the look of it. I feel suitably inspired to try a solo game myself! They are interesting games. The skill of the players is completely matched, so all you have as differentiators are the tactics and randomness of the dice, which ...

Take a TC as CiC and less than 10 mounted bases. You'll then have at least a 50% chance of fighting in your own territory. And you'll be able to afford more MF.

Re: CONVENIENT BASE REMOVAL
You must lose a base which is nearest to the shooters. Then you replace it as Christopher says. Sometimes this could work to you advantage in theory but I've never seen that happen in a game.

Warfare 2020 Theme
All, in the expectation we'll be back to normal by November I've put together the theme based on feedback received. It's Western Europe Dark Ages (396-1100 AD). We're going to use a handicap system with three bands who'll get 800, 850 or 900 points depending on rankings over the last few years - the...
