Re: Cavalry during the city assault

Heavy cavalry being stronger than heavy infantry in mountains, forest and swamp also seems a little odd.

The region of Saba can also build a Vineyard, though it's missing from that list.

Re: Field of Diplomacy: Winds of Change

Do you mind if I claim Aethiopia instead of Nubia? Although it has to conquer a couple of regions in order to get a land border with Ptolemy, it starts the game with a far stronger economy and has no trouble expanding fast, so I don't think it has less of a chance of impacting the game overall.

If you did endure the cost of constructing that structure which required Purple, how would you then be able to benefit?
In this case, the only benefit you get is the building's direct effect. The trade good won't actually be imported into the region and won't count as available to other buildings.

Re: Marble Maniac

Once we have struck a vein, will one be sufficient to supply all of Northern Europe, for example, given adequate trade range? How can we ensure that we extract sufficient marble from that vein? One source can support any number of importing regions. However, the trade range of the importing region ...

Re: Supply Ships?

Each warship can provide 1 supply point to land units to cover shortfalls after other sources of supply have been exhausted. The total is split between land units in adjacent regions (including ones embarked on transports). Each supply point is worth 1/5th of an unit of food.

Re: Possible Trade Range Bug?

The trade range of the importing region is what matters, not the trade range of the exporting region. Since Media has a trade range of only 3, it's too far away to import goods from Babylon.

Re: Is the type of terrain influencing the food and max population of a region ?

Workers assigned to food production in mountains and arid terrain already have reduced food output - you can see if you mouse over food workers in different terrains and compare the values. The food output of buildings isn't modified, but certain food-related buildings can't be build in those terrai...

Re: A few Questions

Does trade of resources only happen when the resource is required rather than just a bonus ... That's correct. and is the sharing of resources to regions in same province not happen when they are separated by a stretch of water? There is no sharing of trade goods within a province, but buildings wi...

Only factions with the Settled Oasis modifier can have those. This includes Arabia and most desertic tribes.

Re: Best garrison troops?

I've now verified that unit Siege Value (what medium infantry have) does not contribute to defenders' siege rolls. In one of my savegames, Massilia is besieged and the defenders include 2 Palace Guards and 6 Skirmishers with Siege Resist values. There are also 5 Regular Infantry with a Siege Value, ...

Re: Arranging MP Game....Interested ?

1) There's no concept of "surrendering" in the game, only starving out the garrison. There is according to the relevant manual section (10.9.4.). If the siege roll, modified by relative siege capacity, totals 16 or more, the defenders surrender. Given a sufficent difference in siege capacity (for e...

5) Slaves eat only half as much food as citizens, and depending on their ethnicity and your choices in decisions regarding slave rights, they may produce less unrest than citizens, especially in really big cities since the unrest of each added faction-ethnicity citizen scales based on how many are a...

Re: Best garrison troops?

I think the medium infantry siege bonus might be only for offense, not for defense. Out of the universally available frontline units, only Heavy Infantry is better at defending against assaults than Urban Militia and even then, only slightly, so unless there's not enough Urban Militia around, or you...

Re: Too much money?

Decadence reduction buildings feed into the CDR equation, and old or decadent nations get major income penalties reflecting a state of rampant corruption. There's also the frequent 'corrupt governor' event that gives a tax penalty to regions, but tax usually makes up only a small portion of income c...

Re: Cavalry and Battle Frontage Solution

The Parthians screened their cataphracts with the horse archers and harassed the Roman formation causing mounting casualties(for some reason they did not form testudo at that point). The testudo is not conductive to throwing javelins or engaging in close quarters combat, so forming it might've rend...

Re: Legacy Acquisition on Steroids

A developer comment in this Steam thread about a similar incident pointed to the cause being them absorbing another faction along with that faction's legacy points - I'm not sure through what means, as I'm not familiar with whatever game mechanic allows a faction to do that.

Re: Your View on 1.03 update and what to improve ?

The announcement for 1.0.3 claimed it made the AI smarter about declarations of war, but it isn't mentioned in the detailed changelog and if something was done, I don't think it went far enough - AIs declaring war on you if you hold their objectives still seems to be a matter of when, not if, irresp...

Re: Cavalry and Battle Frontage Solution

As for generalizations, a phalanx was not an immobile bunch of drones that was at the mercy of flanking cavalry. https://www.historynet.com/battle-of-marathon-greeks-versus-the-persians.htm The Greek hoplites ran into the Persians, denying them the use of their archers and cavalry. The armored infa...

Re: Cavalry and Battle Frontage Solution

Infantry receive penalties when fighting in the flank zones because those zones are an approximation of the large amounts of space that would exist on open battlefields. Due to their speed, cavalry can take better advantage of this space, allowing them to surround and isolate infantry formations un...
