Re: Bf 109K vs Fw 190A
With soft cap the 109 K is more than viable. I switched my stance on air completely during my recently finished 44 East dlc - AA instead of respectively complementing fighters. If executed correctly even the 109 G is still valuable in 44, especially with 4 stars or more. Key is to attack bombers wit...

Re: Heroes question
Okay, so your losses basically occur when caught in an infantry versus infantry fight without or with spent arty backup. Yes, under these circumstances SMG infantry is bad news. Therefore I developed a playstyle keeping enemy infantry out in the open wherever possible, even if my tanks have to sit i...

Re: Heroes question
I'm part way through 44 East at the moment and with a smaller core, large numbers of quality soviet aircraft, high numbers of soviet artillery and the high casualty rates in infantry How do you do these high losses in inf? I really have difficulties to understand. In defense no infantry should ever...

Re: Whats the point of Bf 109G?
prolines point, which you confirmed, was to use higher attack against bombers and higher defense/initiative against fighters. Not the case 1940 in RL. Agreed with your (different) points.

Re: Whats the point of Bf 109G?
Sounds good but is not true, captainjack. Spitfie I and Hurricane had the exact same weaponry - 8 MG 7.x mm. The reason for their different employment was the clear inferiority of the Hurricane against the Bf 109 Emil.

Re: The Hague Scenario in GC'40
It's not like the paratroopers are doing any good there except binding a few enemy forces. Quite wrong at least on difficulty setting including Field Marshal, sorry. You can easily use the southern and middle groups to force conquer Rotterdam on turns 1 to 3 AND keep the majority of it alive with a...

Re: How much prestige does the AI have?
Too much in some cases. The amount of JS 1 in the battle for Kiev 1943 is outright crazy - I counted more than 17 last time I played. And the amount is preset and in no way influenced by player progress. Same as in PG, difference - in PG your performance had an impact on the overall war development,...

Re: Without any loss?
Definitely possible. In PG it was a bit crazy gameplay though, not to lose a naval unit in Norway. A major was much easier sacrificing the northern fleet elements on and with a purpose.

Re: upgrades during scenario
Same costs. Don´t forget though, that side upgrades outside the same family ( e.g. Pz III to Tiger) loses all overstrength points, the upgraded unit has strength 10 max.

I found it to be kind of a disappointment, but that is probably due to playing it after Panzer General.Razz1 wrote:That was an excellent game. Their Pacific version of sea warfare was excellent.boredatwork wrote:If you exclude flight sims then QQP's The Perfect General.

Re: What Was the First Computer Wargame You Played?
@macattack: Oh yes, the grandest fleet. Hundreds of hours, although it is hard to regard this one as a true war- or strategy game (too much luck involved). I stumbled about it mid 90s with outdated computer equipment but on the search for games in the area of Panzer General. I still own an original ...

Re: Just for the records - 44 dlc campaign
As I built my infantry force since 1939 and used at least 6 infantry in every scenario 1940ff all of my infantry is now 4,5 to 5 stars and each has at least 2 heroes. That said I only use 3 types 1942 ff - Grenadiere, Gebirgsjager and Pioniere. And I still try to keep them under cover of artillery a...

Just for the records - 44 dlc campaign
Just finished the dlc 44 on General, no cheats. Just for the records and taking many complaints about the difficulty in this specific dlc: All DVs, no own losses except auxiliaries. Most maps with no enemy unit left. Minus roughly 10000 prestige after the DLC, however mainly due to unit upgrades ( m...

Re: What Was the First Computer Wargame You Played?
Panzer General of course. Directly followed by the classic big three of gaming: Master of Orion, Civilization, Master of Magic (I am still dreaming of a real remake of the last one. Sigh).

Re: '43 East v '44 East
referring to Oboyan as a fun one in '43 I have my faults but I'm not quite that crazy! :D I found Oboyan fun. In the second playthrough of course. It was exactly fun because it forced you to really think about every little step - but with the picture of the final unit setup after the last movement ...

Re: "Actual" sizes for various units?
Only unit size that makes any sense is bataillon, given the equal basic strength of armour, artillery and AA (10). Everything above does not make sense at all - there where no AC units or AA units in regimental size.

Re: Amoured cars OP?
German tanks were crap until 1941 Wrong. They were not that much superior to their enemies, but the 3 men turrets of the Pz III/IV combined with radio equipment made more than up for a LOT of technical deficiencies (like lower armour or less powerful canons) which only military amateurs regard as T...
