Skirmishers Entering Buildings

Hi, During a game today a light infantry unit in tactical skirmish formation tried to enter a building. The rules state that all units must pass a CMT to enter (unless in March Column moving along a road). But the Quick Reference Sheet has it as a simple move if skirmishers try to cross an obstacle ...

Recovering a Broken Self-supported Large Conscript Unit

Hi,

What happens to the number of dice for recovery when a Large Conscript unit is which has been in self-supported formation is Broken?
Is a Broken unit a "mob" and therefore they do not count self-supported, therefore only get 1 D6 for recovery?

Re: Buildings!!!!

Hi,

Just found the answer to 1. in the post "Assaulting Buildings : Occupied" as
Only one unit may enter the building. It may gain the benefits of flank and rear support in the normal way.
Still not sure about 2 or 3.

Re: Buildings!!!!

Hi Terry, 1. If a unit starts it's move in contact with the building it may move into it with a CMT. Both sides will fight as in rough terrain. The defenders do not fire.[/quote] Can more than 1 unit (assuming they all pass their CMTs) move and assault an enemy "occupying" a building or can only 1 a...

Re: Large units and dice

Hi Andy,

See p.57 and p.107. A Large unit in deep formation self-supports. So it does help with Cohesion Tests, but not with Complex Move Tests (because the latter is to do with Training) and the former to do with Elan).

Re: Army List and Label Generator - Download - Version 1.04

Hi, This was written for Excel. It uses a lot of Visual Basic (VBA) programming in the background and array formulas in some of the cells to achieve all it does, especially the generation of the labels. Because this is more than just a spreadsheet with formulas, Open Office does not have the capabil...

Re: Army List and Label Generator - Download - Version 1.04

Hi,

"part Lancer" and part other Cavalry is what I mean by mixed Cavalry.
I have some more testing to do before I can release it.

Re: Is there a printable QRS out there?

Hi,

I enlarged them to A4 so that I could read them.
I also did a physical cut and paste (ahh the good old days) so that I could add the list of "other troops or situations" to my copy of the Combat sheet. Acts as an essential reminder during a game.
Works well for me.

Re: Army List and Label Generator - Download - Version 1.04

Hi Mike,

Thanks. I'll look at this as default in next version. This will be soon. I am just finishing off easier way to choose part units (e.g. mixed cavalry types).

Re: Buildings!!!!

Hi Terry, When clarified for Buildings, I think it should also become the same for obstacles. At the moment obstacles only allow "When assaulting an obstacle . . . Defending Infantry will not retire unless they become Broken." (p.80) I think defenders of an obstacle or a building should not retire u...

Re: Defensive Fire

Thanks Terry. I like that, because we did have a situation in one game where a Cavalry unit charged across the front of Artillery, but we did not fire with it since we thought the Cavalry was no longer in close range when it stopped for defensive fire. What you say makes more sense, that if at any p...

Re: Buildings!!!!

Hi Brett, Totally agree. I have deliberately had buildings in recent games to show people how the rules work. And last weekend I put on Waterloo at Little Wars Melbourne. The battles around Hougomont were excellent and largely mirrored what happened in reality. The Dutch-Belgian Conscripts held out ...

Re: My Rule Questions

Hi,

My understanding is that they can move as long as they did not move during the Assault phase, and were not forced to make an Outcome move during the Assault or Firing phase.
See p.35 under GENERAL MOVEMENT RULES.

Re: Buildings!!!!

Hi deadtorius, The problem comes that the last dot point on p.77 is in the section "GENERAL RULES FOR COMBAT AGAINST DEFENDED BUILDINGS" and not also on p.78 "FIRING TO OR FROM BUILDINGS". Hence at the moment it only appears that the "not retiring unless Broken" p.77 only applies to assaults and not...

Re: Buildings!!!!

Hi, Thanks for the follow-up to clarify Andy, but DEFENDING I would rather see that units defending a building only retire from firing if Broken. Our group has (perhaps mistakenly) been playing it this way and it works very well. Historically you need to go into a building and extract defenders with...

Re: Foot Artillery Charged:???

Hi Sueznick, I seem to recall from discussions during play testing that the Artillery unit will be removed from the table if gunners are forced to retire and there is no Infantry unit within 2MU for them to retire to. But I cannot find any reference to it in the book at the moment. Terry or Mike, ca...

You are correct Mike, I should have said CT. I have adjusted my posts above with this correction to avoid confusion for those that don't make it this far down the post. Thanks for the correction.
