Re: What are Soviets doing in the UK?

I did a little test on hotseat with the 1942 scenario with the current version of the game. British landtroops on transports can move through the loop but could not land on Soviet-controlled soil or land at the Archangel port. So I read the last post to mean that the Allies could land if it were Axi...

Re: an "invincible" defence of France (v4.0)

I was thinking about this some more. I completely agree with the observations about French strength, which if anything is slightly under-represented in CEAW to factor in poor use of its significant material in terms of armour and air. I don't think I'd suggest significant modification. But, if testi...

Re: an "invincible" defence of France (v4.0)

But British casualties are important because high ground and/or air losses can make Sealion more attractive. If the British sacrifice themselves for France, they could get taken out that much easier. Also, I tend to tacair the French tank if possible - before it kills a good unit like a panzer. Even...

Re: CEAW 4.0 final PC version download

Thanks for all your hard work. The game and changes look great! One question: if you want to switch the initial settings you select when you first run the game for full screen versus windows mode, how would you do that? I initially selected fullscreen but want to check out windows mode. I assumed I ...

Re: CEAW 4.0: First Impressions

Looks like fun! Thanks for the good work. I haven't played the game in a while, but really enjoyed it a few years back. I just downloaded 4.00, and am interested in all the game tweaks and features that have been added.

Re: Redeeming Your Steam Key

I am confused. I bought "Pandora First Contact" when the game initially came out at Matrix/Slitherine. I had no problem redeeming my serial code for the Steam Key and now have "Pandora First Contact" on steam. But I don't have the expansion ("Eclipse of Nashira") which ...

Re: Alert about current total of Italian surrender cities.

Neither side really knew when they would give up the fight. Not completely true. The Allies had signed an agreement with the Italian government after Mussolini was ousted and, as far as I know, were pretty certain Italy would be giving up / switching sides at the time of the invasion of the Allied ...

Re: Ronnie vs Allied Player (Allied Player Please Stay Out)

What do you think? Should we maybe increase the bias production settings a bit more. Now they are 4, 8 and 16 if I recall correctly. Maybe they could have been 8, 16 and 32 instead. Settings can easily be changed in general.txt so no code changes needed. I'd wait to make any adjustments. The advant...

Very well played as Axis
There's a minor error in the last AAR update as it is still only 1942, not 1943. If you look back, you'll see the game is still in 1942.

Re: GS V3.10 possible change - Scapa Flow

I don't think Scapa or Kirkwall should be in supply, for that matter. I would analogize it to the Channel Islands. The Germans were allowed to occupy them after the Fall of France because they were simply too close to France (and German airfields) to defend. If the British want to supply Scapa, they...

Re: GS V3.10 possible change - Scapa Flow

I would leave it so that Scapa Flow cannot supply independently and goes out of supply when not connected to another supply source. I'm a little confused on the separate point about embarking/disembarking. As a port, it should normally be able to do both. Does it lose that ability if it goes out of ...

Re: Ronnie vs Allied Player (Allied Player Please Stay Out)

This game is interesting from a strategic standpoint, particularly with the Allied advantage setting in play. It seems to me your opponent had two choices in 1941 after London fell: (1) fall back in Britain to the North and try to conserve British resources for future use (and use in the Med.) or (2...

Re: Zzz???

Maybe you're right-clicking on top of the unit after the move to deselect the unit, ncali. You can right-click on units to change them to and from Zzz. Note that you can do that to and unit even after you've moved some other unit after moving the first unit. A very nice useful feature in 3.0 compar...

Re: Zzz???

I'm sure this is discussed elsewhere, but I was just playing around with 3.0 for the first time. I noticed the zzzz seems to be automatic in some cases after a unit has moved. I assume this is a design feature?

Re: Strategic bombardment effects on rail network

Interesting points. I would add that most (but not all of the time) it's not hugely significant that the rail lines aren't on the map. The indirect effect approach adopted by the current game (reducing rail movement capacity) makes a lot of sense in areas of Western Europe (the primary target for ra...

Re: News about GS v2.2, now renamed to GS v3.0

Another minor change we got in was to code it so the Free French forces arrive in the US force pool instead of invading near Agadir if Agadir is Axis controlled. So now you can benefit from sweeping French North Africa as the Axis. The Free French won't automatically kick you out of the Agadir area...

Re: Supermax vs Morris GS 2.1

Morris's unexpected conservativism seems to be virtuous. He's managed to keep France alive reasonably long, inflict damage, and the UK is prepared for invasion. This will be an interesting contest! I 100% agree, particularly in light of the new developments in the game. This is looking like a case ...
