oh one last point - there is a definite three era split in my opinion - bronze age/chariot, classical, mediaeval. Each period in my opinion works best and is most balanced in those three areas. Some armies can compete cross period, but not all. I am confident that most armies within those bands have...

no points scoring system is perfect is the starting point. So it is probably fair to say that all armies ar equal but that some armies are more equal than others! Whilst your sumerian army might not consistently beat the roman army, it might well consistently beat other armies which the roman might ...

Flaming Pigs

Just a sad realisation that my 15mm flaming pigs will never come out of their box again since they do not appear in FOG. Heartbroken. (A moments silence please). Anyway, for conversations, sake, If they were used for a one off scenario, how should they be classified? Artillery (per DBM) seems wrong....

mmmm legal point Nic, but the point is more that you are unlikely to be caught copying for yourself than that it becomes legal (the famous 11th commandment defence). With the existance of quick play sheets I would suggest that any copying is improper. The defences for fair use have been overturned o...

I also make markers, particularily for the 25mm armies. I use trees with generic individual scout types - light infantry or cavalry. There are some 28mm figures on their hands and knees made by gripping beast which look like someone spying which surrounded by bushes look great. For disorder markers ...

To go back to an earlier point in the thread - having used 25mm Welsh many times (MEdieval version) I have to say they are fantastic. I tend to rush into the terrain and by having plenty of smaller groups, and larger groups of bow in the spaces between. Cavalry elements acting as support in the righ...

would be grateful for advice on whether MIKeK AND MYSELF argh caps lock, anyway, whether mike and I are down on the list for rennaissance. I think I have signed up for both - not the same as being accepted I realise! We both have a variety of armies in the period.

Rules free observation on the new system

Its jolly nice and plays like a Napoleonic game, not like an ancients game with longer archery ranges. I like. Lots of tweaking to come, but the feel is pretty good. I will probably be told off or stripped of my Beta testing priviliges for discussing it, but just wanted to let people know it looks l...

I am a loitering 51 user wannabe too. Have sent emails and been spam checked and EVERYTHING. So, at the risk of being another annoying pain in the pilum praxis, can you include me when the Great and the Good let us peasants into the area, please. Sorry to harass. :P

Due to my early painting period (pre-children, and when I had a boss who thought me being quiet in my room meant I must be productive) I have dozens of odd armies hardly or un-used. The nice thing about Ancients - and why I am supportive of the FOG projects - is that you get opponents all over the p...

the simple rule of wargames classification...

my elite troops are surprisingly fragile and in groups which are so small as to make them vulnerable to enemy action, your elite troops are too powerful and badly pointed and able to take advantage of their small unit size to amnouvre in a non-historical manner. Remember that and its all easy.

My 28mm Welsh army is bowlicious. THe effect of banks of bow on a Pike army at challenge last year makes me smile even now. I think if a horse bow army outshoots you then you are not sending in enough bow!

I would think if a workable set of mechanisms for Napoleonic can be found, then an "age of Musket and Horse with frilly lace bits" can be easily derived. Well, comparatively easily! Less sure about later periods, the greater emphasis upon individuality of fire, small unit tactics etc makes...

I hope that it is fair to assume that all options are open for the way in which the supplements are generated. Each has advantages, to be fair. If generating a wish list - that is also likely to generate significant sales! - then I would have thought the main rules could include the forces and backg...

Teutonics work badly in 28mm for the avoidance of doubt. Though that might be in part because everyone else brought Pike Blocks.
