Re: Why is pike POA dependent on casualties?

Strange and counter-intuitive to me. I'd even always avoided shooting at pike blocks if other targets were available assuming the ranged casualties inflicted would just be a drop in the bucket.. As mentioned flanking and rough terrain were the historical causes of the big pike losses instead of them...

Division B

oscarius (Lombard 493-567 AD) beats Troglius (Romans 197-284AD): 48 -14

Romans used a narrow battlefield well but the lancers managed to hack their way through the auxilia and Roman cavalry on the flanks to encircle the core legionaries. Good game thanks!

A very successful initial cavalry charge crumpled his left flank and allowed me to roll up his line. Fun game where the die were on my side.

Division B

oscarius's Lombards beat Bluefin's Visigoths 66-28

Fun, short and sharp game. Visigoths were starting to win on the flank cavalry duel but alas my lancers and warbands in tandem had cracked his warband battleline before the horse could show up to assist them.

Division B oscarius (Lombards 493-567 AD) beats Morbio (Bosporan 84-11BC) 46 - 16 Luck was on my side the whole battle with my lancers running down his light foot from the get go and crashing through to successfully disrupt his infantry line (three turns before the warbands could even catch up!). Re: Possible Army Lists for 7th Century Arab Forces?

These guys could be a fun unit to include. Elite light foot armoured swordsmen?? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mubarizun https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khalid_ibn_al-Walid Under al-Walid (a shockingly little known general IMO) they seemed to have played a key role in much of the startling success...

Re: Fatigue System

Not a fan. I think unit quality already illustrates this well enough. Lower quality units disrupt from losing rounds much more easily while the superiors and elites tend to keep on trucking until the end. Plus it opens up all sorts of cans of worms of trying to guess just how fit ancient soldiers we...

Re: Why did the Romans make their heavy foot worse?

The legions are suited to different foes that Rome faced. Republican / Julio-Claudian legions are good at slicing up barbarian heavy foot (and are the decisive arm of the army). Late Empire infantry are designed to act as an anvil while the much improved cavalry win the flanks. In period Late Rome i...

Re: Early Middle Ages: winners post your results here

Division C oscarius (Picts) beats cromlechi (Welsh) 61 - 41 Welsh cavalry spent too long on the peripheries to halt the Pictish infantry despite some hard fighting. Pictish javelineers did some incredible work pinning Welsh heavy foot in forests as well as causing heavy casualties in general to the ...
