Peter Darman has written a series of books about the Catalan Great Company as well!! Pretty interesting work, he has done some research about the almogovars.
Sounds very interesting. Thanks for the details!

I will try this series once I finish the Sword Brothers series.

Re: Cumans

The design goal of the game is historical realism, not competitive balance. Even with points systems, the two things are not completely compatible, so some armies will inevitably be better than others. I could not agree more with this goal. Historically, the Cumans were horse archers. The armies of...

Re: Field of Glory II: Medieval - Reconquista coming soon

Superb! Fascinating subjects. I have been waiting for El Cid to appear in a game for a very long time. I will buy this as soon as possible, just like I did FOG 2, every DLC for FOG 2, and Medieval FOG 2 itself. I know that Richard and the rest of the magnificent team at Byzantine games will not disa...

Re: Fiction Book Recommendations

Actually "The Sword Btothers" by Peter Darman is the first of six novels (rather than a trilogy) of the Baltic Crusades and the Sword Brothers. I have read the first three and like Vaalen, can recommend them. I would also very highly recommend "Lionheart" by Anthony Riches who is well known for his...

Re: Fiction Book Recommendations

I recommend " The Sword Brothers", by Peter Darman. This is the first of a trilogy covering the Sword Brothers during the early Baltic crusades. I have read hundreds of military themed historical novels, yet none have come close to the detailed description of training, battles, tactics, logistics, d...

Re: Mongol and shooting !

The Mongols are not overpowered in the game, when you look at the historical record. They were practically invincible, except when they were fighting in terrain that was unfavorable to them. They had a degree of discipline and tactical acumen that was unmatched during their expansion period. During ...

Re: Sad that nothing more will go into FOGE or FOG2

Hallelujah! Last night, I looked at paid and unpaid reviews for Imperator: Rome ; and Empires still compares favorably! Glad to hear it. Empires is so superior as a game to IR that there is no comparison. And Empires gives a great historical feel, whereas IR just gives the usual Paradox feel, even ...

Re: Some issues and questions with massed shooters

It is certainly true that shooter units are harder to use well than melee units, but they can be effective when they are. Armies with lots of massed shooting infantry may not be a good pick, and certainly not for beginners. When we get to the 14th century, there will be a lot of much better-equippe...

Re: Some issues and questions with massed shooters

I agree. I have found shooters like crossbowmen and long bowmen to be useless against infantry armies, such as Baltic foot and the Irish. Longbows or crossbows, they get chewed up in melee after a couple of shots, and break fairly quickly. I have tried mixing them in a line with spearmen and my own ...

You are probably right, the extra cost for Armoured Offensive Spearmen was put in to balance Ancients and perhaps should be taken out for Medieval. Does anybody disagree?
I agree. The change you propose makes sense.

Re: Suggestion for making pop ups easier to read

Thanks. We will consider it. Do you think the suggested colour combination would be better for all people with impaired eyesight, or just your particular case? I guess we could perhaps go for a full "impaired sight" option, including this and font changes. What else should it include? I am as certa...

Suggestion for making pop ups easier to read

Currently, the pop ups for combat reports and detailed unit reports are colored black on beige. I find this color combination difficult ti read. I am sure that many have no problem with it, but I know that others have expressed a similar problem. I find white on black much easier to read. I request ...

Re: Suggestion - highlit grid under units with different color for both sides

We will consider it. (As an option only, of course). Thank you. And yes, I was thinking about it being a toggleable option, as LoS or command rage tools. So players can just use it when they're in doubt. I like this idea very much, and hope it will be implemented. It would really improve the flow o...

Bravo!

I have played three battles, and I am very impressed. Everything seems to look better, with really beautiful artwork on the units and maps, and play better. The tutorial is so good that you can learn to play the game just from that, with clear and well written explanations of events as they happen. I...

Re: Wildly Improbable Results

That is very strange, but i have seen similar things happen in FOG2, maybe twice, out of the hundreds of battles I have played in that game. I have played three battles in FOG2 Medieval, and the breaking and routing of units seemed completely Plausible. in one battle, there was one of the new Battle...

Re: Fonts and displays are too small

That's a pretty common use case, the text should be pretty readable. It could be contrast or (as Richard says) the font style. If it is causing issues, you can tweak the font sizes in the SYSTEM/FONT.TXT file in the install folder. Make the height values larger and you will get larger fonts. Note t...

Thank you for responding so quickly, Richard. The screenshots you have shown on Medieval show the buttons as being much larger than they show on my screen. When I have some help, I will see what settings are in terms of resolution and other things that could explain why they are so small. Getting he...

Fonts and displays are too small

This was a problem with FOG 2, and I raised the issue back then, as did others. But this time, it is even worse. The opening scree has a tiny square in the middle which consists of even smaller rectangles in the center, which are very difficult to read for those of us with poor eyesight. The top lef...
