And your basic prot/average/drilled/longbow/swordsman costs a fairly chunky 9 points a piece.. for average protected blokes. Fairly expensive, not saying overly, but it works.

Artillery in the middle of a line of static shooters can draw the enemy into a ring of death quite nicely, and warwagons on a flank where you're expecting to be hit by a cavalry flank can be quite tasty if you use them right. The sheer presence of some hussite style warwagons can dissuade the other ...

Being down in melee against unprotected med foot with sword makes me never want to use them ever. They're almost the same points cost as arm bow/sw cav (I think they are if the bow/sw cav are undrilled) but cant fight worth a damn. Meaning armies centred around them have no punch to speak of. Even i...

Shooting arrows in foot would be easier to train than shooting arrows to the same extent while riding though right?

I don't mean any offence but playing against the one opponent isn't really giving you a full range of the rules as you don't really experience other peoples playing styles and their takes on the rules.

Once you start playing more games you'll realise that knights aren't all that great, sure they fight well, but are much too easily avoided and are very expensive. The cav lancers by contrast are much more manouverable (turn 90 and move is insanely good), and faster. Aswell as being cheaper. I'm much...

I would say something like 'if the enemy ends up within 3mu's you must take a cmt' so its not a 100% thing, but adds a little bit more risk into the evade equation. (i.e. you evade, enemy rolls high you roll low or something, make a cmt to avoid being 'spooked' into a disrupt or whatever.)

I use two BG's of unprotected crossbow sword cav, average, in my han army to great success. The enemy cant ignore them and they sit on a flank - if the enemy moves something out there that can take them out then they turn tail and retreat and usually the enemy has wasted more points than they are wo...

Bigger BG's get more effect from generals, and cant be 'picked off' one at a time like smaller BG's can.

Armor gives a poa if better than the enemy and if all other poa's are equal or less (i.e. the enemy are evens or up on you). Means that romans get only a single poa against barbarian foot, and stops double poa's from happening hugely often. And the double armor bonus is good also (i.e. when you're u...

Yeah, but that extra dice shooting (in two ranks) or two dice shooting (in single rank), is quite helpful against most other things. Also a thing to note, light spear cav are better than lancer cav in the impact phase if in non-open ground :).

If they were drilled so they could skirmish easier i wouldn't mind, but undrilled costs as much as bow cav, doesnt get as many dice shooting and still loses to lancers.

For me the manouver of this game is what keeps me playing, I'm not really in it to fight 'historical' battles, but play strategy against another person. It works as is for me.

Yeah, i would agree with phil in saying that picking an army that suits you, has its flaws minimised and you have practiced with is a skill also. good tournament system, good competitive play, i see it more as 'ideas taken from history' for the army lists as opposed to 'perfect history representation'. Also, its more of a rock paper scissors system, some armies will beat the pants off people, others - if fighting the same army - will be massa...

Depends where you put the knights, you'd want to keep them for the last deployment and put them down somewhere where they can be screened, you'd definately want to keep them as backup for a group of cav or light horse of your own, gives them cover and means that your frontal troops can act with a bi...

if the knights are spent frivolously chasing light horse - yeah, they are useless... but who would do that? and not many armies can have large quantities of drilled knights, if they do.. then you're going to have many more units to just shoot them up with, with the knights just staying away until th...
