Re: Compatibility problems

Given the fact that I would prefer to buy FoG Empires via Slitherine I'm asking myself if there could be problems in exporting battles on FoGII which runs on the Steam platform. Or maybe would be safer to buy FoG Empires on Steam too? Any hints? it'll be platform independent, in effect Empires will...

Re: Check the latest screenshots!

it depends ... which makes it more fun. a) Lets say you have the good and trade it out - you get the money in, prob nicer if another nation pays this? b) you trade with yourself (ie you own both regions), in theory this should be neutral but there is a mechanism that gives you a small net bonus ... ...

...exporting FOG2 battles and multiplayer. If I can't do them both at the same time, I'm not sure I'll bother. this is very much one of those things that only you can answer. But its worth bearing in mind Empires has a (very good) battle model in its core design. If you build poorly designed armies...

Re: Coordinating movements of separate armies?

You can also move from two adjacent regions to a third one and arrive at the same time. I believe Das has mentioned wanting to do this a couple of times, but not being able to find out how to do it. ... it happens due to how movement is executed but only if the two forces start adjacent to the targ...

well the game runs from 310 BCE to 190 CE, so yes it covers Rome's many civil wars in the late Republic era

prevent - no. But the stronger the defense, the more likely the raid will fail, so fortifications + some regulars will defeat all but the largest raid (Most of the time)

not just for the AI. Raiding is related to the state so available to the player ... an excellent way to pay for your army if you are a small poor tribe

...there is no historic precedent for any military being unable to starve out an inferior force in a city or castle..... hmmm, actually I think there is, and IIRC it wasn't especially uncommon...armies with no siege technology/weapons and no logistical capability often could neither take the place ...

Re: I saw the challenge 2's export, still can't continue the battle when win it in FOG2

this is deliberate. When the game comes back to Empires, you then inflict retreat/rout losses in addition to the battle damage. So if you could play FoG2 to the end then it would be too high losses

Re: Campaign features you'd like to see in FoG:Empires

... As another example, why did certain nations stop using cavalry lancers over time? Something I read suggests that this sometimes happened as the economic/class base of a nation changed. So as an eg, Macedonia, after the civil wars and the Gallic invasion saw the loss of the bulk of its landed ar...

Re: Starting Locations Equal??

There are some starts that are probably near impossible to do well with, but in testing I've taken some unusual states/tribes to a position of regional power etc. Its certainly feasible that you could build a Gallic confederation, for example, that has a chance vs Rome but you may well still get red...

Re: Campaign features you'd like to see in FoG:Empires

yes, you will convert unit types from Empires to unit types in FoG2 (and this translation is fully moddable) but the linkage is not faction---army list, its unit ---unit. So lets say your noble Picts take Carthage ... you can raise African Elephants to supplement your army - and if that army fights ...

Re: The units in game are too few

I don't know what you are seeing that makes you so sure about this - but I think you are misinterpreting something. I've a battle open between my Sarmatians and a Roman-Antiochid alliance. On my side I have 3 different types of heavily armoured cavalry, 2 types of horse archers, my skirmish line is ...

Re: Independent regions and generals in their armies

Noooo, those independent or rebel armies are already too annoying, they can be so aggressive and you have to give up whatever you are trying to do to, to protect some unremarkable corner of your existing empire Then, do independent regions attack your dominions? I thought they were static. yes they...

those aren't skirmishers ... . One of the upcoming dev diaries will be on the Empires combat system and that should make stuff like ranged fire/skirmishers and support units much clearer.

Re: Unit availability question

yes - but can't really say at this stage what 8) There are lots of small variations between national, provincial and the more generic units (some actually quite large ones too). But in addition, archers are quite powerful as they have a dual role in the Empires battle system. So well worth capturing...

Re: Unit availability question

The 'archery' building actually gives an experience bonus to any skirmishers on recruitment, its enough so that either with another bonus (some come from rulers etc), you can skip an experience level (really useful in the early game). Archers themselves are specialised provincial units only availabl...
