Re: Arrows vs Armour: Agincourt Myth Busting

I have never felt comfortable with the mass of troops breaking ranks with a mad dash forward from 100 meters concept. That is just Hollywood/TV. It relates in no way to historical battle tactics. (Any more than the ludicrous testudo-like representation of shieldwalls in Last Kingdom). Sadly the med...

Re: medium spears cost the same as hoplites?

So in the most common circumstance - average medium spears vs average heavy spears in open terrain, the medium spears are at a disadvantage and it says so when they meet. No it doesn't. They are of course slightly disadvantaged because of the CT modifiers, but it does not say so in the tooltip beca...

Such an approach would hugely disadvantage any armies that rely on mobility making them pointless.

They would also give huge advantages to heavy infantry armies in most cases and eliminate any finesse in manouvre.

Re: Please don't make me come and get you.

The way that the armies deploy in FOG2 Custom battles, with so much space between the two (12 tiles?), suggests to me that the situation represents a bit of approach marching, rather than two armies deployed for a set piece battle. That is indeed the intention with Custom Battles. The "battlefield"...

Re: ZOCs blocking break-offs.

Not the pinning issue. They can now (auto) disengaged when odds are unfavorable but are still easily pinned by another diagonally facing infantry unit. That hasn't changed. This is certainly something we could look into. The question is whether allowing break-offs in general to ignore ZOCs would be...

Re: General Mod

Hi Cronos, It has come to light, from testing someone else's mod of your mod, that there is a bug in the Generals Mod version of CampaignTools.BSF, on line 1323. This should read DetachExcessUnits( ret ); but has been changed to DetachExcessUnits( army ); which stops DetachExcessUnits() from working...

At some stage in the evolution of these rules these current events were not possible.
This is not true. It has always been like this.

Re: ZOCs blocking break-offs.

Is there a parallel universe for some FOG2 players? ZOC doesn't work properly anymore and you are discussing ignoring ZOC's when cavalry break off. Where are you getting this info? ZOC (when a unit is in multiple enemy ZOCs) is working as intended, as was explained last time you brought up the issu...

Re: Archers too weak

So, I think the discussion go far away from the topic. Let the 'longbow' dispute alone and tell me why archers can't fire behind first enemy unit on a flat terrain ! Sorry, it's plain stupid and mostly, unhistorical. I think you will have to provide some actual historical evidence that it is unhist...

I feel the upcoming version 1.5.19 addressed it well. Not the pinning issue. They can now (auto) disengaged when odds are unfavorable but are still easily pinned by another diagonally facing infantry unit. That hasn't changed. But they can get disengaged one turn after that they changed their facin...

Good communication from the designers.
We are reading and taking note of all of the suggestions, and I have started a new thread about the break-off issue - I did not reply in this thread to avoid the discussion being divided between two threads.

ZOCs blocking break-offs.

No version of fog ( computer or tabletop) allowed voluntary break offs ( maybe p&s tabletop did?). I agree that Cavalry is too easily pinned by mere infantry and would love to see it addressed somehow... I feel the upcoming version 1.5.19 addressed it well. Not the pinning issue. They can now (auto...
