Saving the Game During Deployment

Is it possible to save the game during the deployment phase? I've never found a way to do this and invariably have to alt-ctrl-delete to get to task manager to kill the game if I need to close it. Am I missing something? If there is no way to save then is there a good reason for that?

Re: City size.

Where can I see growth rate or shrinkage for each city? I'm new to the game and figuring out what I need to do to stop my cities shrinking, but I can't see anywhere something like a bar showing when my city will grow to the next level or what factors are directly causing them to lose size. My main ...

Marmite is lovely and it is a by-product of beer-making. Beans on marmite toast. Beautiful! :D this i need to try, sounds yummy You will either love it or hate it. (I love it) Personally I'd rather rub sand in my eyes than eat Marmite. People who make Marmite should be.... no, I can't say what I th...

Re: What are the rules for shooting overhead?

Overhead shooting by bows from higher ground was added in update 1.0.2. They can shoot over units that are at a lower height level than them. This currently only applies to bows, crossbows and longbows. Arguably it should also apply to slings. Javelins only have a 1 square range so could not shoot ...

Fragged Unit Imposing ZOC

In a recent match I had a steady warband that was restricted in its movement by a fragged archer unit. I didn't think fragged units could impose ZOC restrictions because they can't attack. Am I missing something? Screen_00000007.jpg Notes: The archer unit was fragged in a previous turn. Indian Arche...

Re: Impetuosity Check

I too miss that aspect from FoG 1, to be honest. It made me shout "@#$%&!" so many times (but in a good sense). But I think that the chance was too high. If I recall correctly it happened on every battle so you could always count on it. I remember the ahistorical reaction to impetuosity: The positi...

Re: Late Antiquity: winners post your results here . . .

Division B Youngr (Jewish Revolt) beat Morbio (Bosporans) 40-10 A bad match up for the Bosporans plus terrain that helped me Yup, only about 25% of the field was suitable for HF and lancers, which meant I had to sit at the rear or my deployment zone for many turns until the Jews arrived... this was...

Re: Share some unique/strange tactics that you came up with!

It is often advantageous to charge an enemy unit that is already routed. Some possible reasons: 1) The routed unit may have been blocking you from doing something important, like charging another enemy unit in the flank. 2) Your charging unit may pursue and end up charging another enemy unit that w...

Re: Do you prefer light spear cavalry or lancers?

I struggle with lancers. They are good at pinning units, but their weakness, in my opinion, is their inability to evade. I always seem to get them facing off with HF and then no way to get away as other units come to the flanks.

Re: MF unable to charge LH

I recognise that battle... and Vakarr is correct, my Thracians were defeated. They were hammered in the open flat, by the armoured hoplites, but held out quite well on the wings where there was some height and the skirmishers did well against their opposition. They even recovered to be just ahead at...

Re: Pike Units: Worth the cost?

From a logic perspective it seems bizarre to me that any direct frontal charge against steady pikes has any reasonable chance of success (disruption). The front pike line would have some manoeuvrability with the pike and might be targeting a charger and then next few ranks wouldn't be targeting per ...

Re: Bizarre colour of unitss

This game doesn't use a mod (at least not to my knowledge). The mod I recently installed was for the Biblical section of the Digital league, the instructions are as follows... Players will need to have the base game, the Immortal Fire and the Rise of Persia DLC's, and you will also need to download ...

Bizarre colour of unitss

Hi, I've just opened a MP game and I see the following bizarre psychedelic colouring of my lancers. It may not affect the play-ability of the game, but it just looks odd... and I'm concerned that the enemy will see the units in the woods more easily! ;) I have recently downloaded a mod to enable me ...

Re: Pike Units: Worth the cost?

I'm sure this has been debated before and I'm sure the cost setting for Pikes has been well thought out, but I tend to agree. High cost leads to narrow frontage, which makes flanking relatively easy and this leads to a swift death as once pikes are anything but steady they are very weak. Once one br...
