Re: Development wishlist

One way to change the game to improve it is to place "?" icons to the enemy units. You can see them, maybe hear them but you need to be close to see more details (you can believe it is a heavy infantry, but maybe it is a medium), when you get closer you can discern which type, but have do...

Re: Field of Glory II: Medieval is coming soon

1040-1154. Yay, Hastings and the First Crusade then! Perhaps some tail end Vikings too. As for sieges, they are woefully underrepresented in wargames (board and computer) compared to how common and important they were historically. I feel however that trying to fit a siege model onto Field of Glory...

Re: Any chance for real new gameplay features (not just new units) in the future ?

The feature that I would like to see added at some point is the weather. Rain certainly did affect some later medieval battles when firearms and cannons started being used, and wind and rain would always have affected archers to a certain extent. It wouldn't have to be too complicated. If it starte...

Re: Eastern Europe armies.

What is the reason for this? They didnt have armed conflict with central and western Europe? The Poles fought the very modern Dutch-style Swedes on numerous occassions, and their old-school cavalry proved remarkably efficient until at least mid-century. One of the reasons for more cavalry and less ...

Re: Wars of the Spanish Succession and Austrian Suc. Battles

My wish would be to have Malplaquet playable by the french 75 000 men would make at least 100 units in the game. You seriously want to shuffle that every turn? :-) Seriously, I think the system works best with the not-so-humongous armies of the Renaissance and TYW even if the later stuff is fun as ...

Re: New Pike and Shot game?

Ancients does make sense. It does seem a bit weird to have two digital product lines based on FOG though. Ot maybe FOG2 is meant to supercede Pike and Shot as well?

Re: New Pike and Shot game?

Agree that ancients is a good bet given the original focus of Field of Glory. Richard Bodley Scott doesn't seem to be much into anything past 1700, although I'm sure a Napoleonic or American Civil War adaption would sell lots. The real orphan in the above is 1700-1800, and especially the early 1700s...

Re: Melee engagements during the era of Pike and Shot

Of course re-enactors keep their pikes vertical so as to avoid killing people, the opposite of a real pike fight. True, but you can still get valuable results from reenactments even if they don't kill each other. Also two hedges of pikes blocking each other and creating a kind of lockdown effect (a...

Re: Query on War of the Spanish Succession

Hopefully the game series will get there. There are no modern computer wargames covering that era, which is both interesting and popular, so it would be great to have the P&S franchise develop in that direction. As for differences, the pike disappeared from most armies in the 1690s but the Swede...

Re: Melee engagements during the era of Pike and Shot

Pike vs pike would probably be more shoving than killing, given that the pikes will block each other. Philip Sabin mentions reenacators have found that pike units can push each other back several hundred meters - push of pike indeed! Of course if you can break the cohesion of a pike unit it can be s...

Re: Cavalry weapons systems, the 1500s to the 1800s

The impetus for the reiter was the wheelock pistol, which could be used and reloaded on horseback. Since reiters were effective against both traditional heavy gendarme cavalry, while being cheaper, and also against pike units which they could blast from close range they quickly became indispensable....

Re: Interface is "computerized" - baffled

Thank you very much for the quick reply. I understand these are business decisions as well, I just felt that button size was such a basic issue that should (?) be scalable with few problems. As for the multiplayer, I have't tried the Slitherine service yet (didn't have time to register) so I can't c...

Interface is "computerized" - baffled

As a huge fan of the CiC series and primarily an Iphone player I was very disappointed to see that the interface had been "computerized", i.e. not at all designed for the Iphone anymore. The main annoyance is the tiny buttons. While I can accept some of the changes even if I don't like or ...

Re: The Lack of Stability is Unacceptable

Just gonna add my vote to this. The game is unplayable because of the crashes (I can't even exit the tutorial!) on my brand new 64 GB IPhone 6 with updated IOS 8 and lots of free space.
