Re: And more questions

Well I have Edit it now, (better late than never, as we say here) and let me clarify one question. A cavalry unit charged by cavalry must or can counter-charge? Because if it must, that’s a great disadvantage for the non-active player as the active player can move other units in support before comba...

And more questions

Cavalry or cavalry attachments reduce the dice of units with skirmishes at medium range from 3 to 1. A unit of infantry (conscript) with a skirmishes attachment and an artillery attachment is firing at middle range at a unit with a cavalry attachment. Skirmishes + artillery attachments mean only 4 d...

Re: More questions

Thanks, that’s all by now. But as I’m going to assault a village occupied by the French, with my Hanoverian division I fear I will have soon some questions about buildings…. :D

More questions

We are now playing our first battle and have some new questions: Page 38, last right bullet.” A unit can turn to face in any direction but otherwise remains stationary and in the same formation”. Even in extended line or march column? A large unit in extended line that makes a 90º changes of face ha...

Re: Orcs and Goblins

A good analysis, it really helped me. I agree that for night goblins Impact foot should be enough without any other capacity. I will give MF to all goblins and Orcs as that solves the rebasing problem , leaving for play-testing the definitive Poas. Even if Big’Uns would surely be classed as heavy, m...

Re: FOGN questions after a first reading

The reason I’m so interested is that for our first learning games we are going to use our old SYW armies (that by now are veteran out or era rules play testers!) And the allies have varied but small cavalry units of 2 bases that must be combined to form FOGN units. So if there is a possibility of ha...

Pursing and steeping forward

The following situation arouse in our present game. A unit of Genovese crossbowmen (8b in 2 front 4 deep) )charge a disrupted BG of English billmen (4b) with a general . Fragmented them in Impact an after expanding to a front of 3 bases broke them in the melee phase of the same turn (yes that’s how ...

Re: FOGN questions after a first reading

Thanks both of you for answering so quickly. Skirmishing movement: I explain myself badly what I mean is that you can move a full move to the front (and rear) and up to half in any other direction. Lighter cavalry is in the combat section (page. 60) I assume that it means that some armies with histo...

FOGN questions after a first reading

Preparing our first learning battle some questions arose, many are probably quite obvious but an “official” clarification will be nevertheless appreciated! Light foot: Half the bases should be in open order (e.g 4 fig) some in close order (8fig) when in skirmishing formation all bases should be of 4...

Re: Orcs and Goblins

Here is the draft list: Goblins MF Un/Protected , poor, light spear/bow Lesser goblins etc, Mob, Poor, but some BGs or bases can have sling, bow*or javelins capacity and/or be protected. Night goblins. HF protected average, Impact foot and either optional HW or Defensive spear Orcs. MF, Impact, swor...

Stakes

Can stakes be placed, when the BG is deployed on table (without CMT) or can only be placed on a manoeuvre phase?

Re: Orcs and Goblins

The fanatics are released and then they are done in most cases. That sounds like the impact phase only. So, although poor, unprotected, defensive spear and impact foot seems strange, it does sound like most night goblin units. Perhaps unprotected, bow, impact foot too. Sorry I make a confusing stat...

Re: Orcs and Goblins

Well I have mainly GW goblins, at first I thought to make them poor HF, defensive spear, undrilled . As the idea of massed poor goblins packed on fear clutching to their spears appeals to me. But undrilled, defensive spear looks odd so maybe, MF, light spear works better, in any case Night goblins s...

Orcs and Goblins

Hello all. I am about to begin rebasing my Orc and Goblin army for FoG and have some doubts about troop types. Orcs looks like MF I think, but I’m unsure about goblins. All ideas should be welcome and I would like to know if some consensus have been achieved about troop types.

Re: Pre 1500 lists... (also covered by FOG-A)

Yes, that’s why I intended d to base the scenarios in historical battles from 1476 on. So that even if the armies are selected from Storm of arrows, they must have the maximum allowance of “modern” troops types present in the battle. That’s why at first I intended to begin with Grandson, but at the ...

Re: Pre 1500 lists... (also covered by FOG-A)

I hope this topic is not definitively dead by now. Unfortunately last year I have been lost in a different era (WWII) and missed it. A pity as the subject is very dear to me. Let’s hope it can come to live again! We are preparing an historical campaign centered on the period. The idea is to play a s...

Re: Crossbow BG and protected Shot POA.

 Let's face it, at 4 points each MF crossbowmen shouldn't be that great. They are a hell of a lot better in infantry close combat, though, than they would be in FOGAM. True, but not good enough to crush those dammed French gendarmes ( only fragmented them!) and I need all dead, right now! :wi...

Re: Artillery rear support and 4º rank pike POA

The Swiss keil was overlapped so first the 2 nom committed bases in the rear (HW) move to check the overlap, the BG was now 4/4/2. First one and then a second base of pike were lost. As now they are 4/3/2, we doubt about what pike base must be removed.

Re: Crossbow BG and protected Shot POA.

But the pistol POA is negated by protected shot not protected foot, the same in all other cases. So what are the advantages of protected foot?
