Crossbow BG and protected Shot POA.

Can a MF BG with crossbow in an enclosed field (i.e. protected) claim the +POA against mounted in Impact/melee? For what is said on page 125 I understand it can but at the same time found the definition of Shot in page 25 confusing as it doesn’t include Crossbow.

Re: Playing the Lace Wars period with FOG

We play various games of SYW with FOGR last year and liked all of them a lot. Didn’t need to make any rules change, to get an excellent “period” effect. I have adapted the WRG list for FOG without problem and the armies work very well. I have been expected to have FOGN to see what set or rules fits ...

Artillery rear support and 4º rank pike POA

Two different problems for our last game First the artillery support question. A BG of 4 bases of medium artillery behind 6 FF (4 in front 2 in one side) is supported by 2 BG of spears. A Swiss keil is about to charge the artillery laterally (trough the FF) On the precedent shooting phase the BG los...

Re: Late XV century Spearmen.

Thanks, unfortunately I forgot to say that we use 25/28mm  . But something like that is really what I need, maybe with a mix of armored and unarmored for more flexibility.

Late XV century Spearmen.

After some resistance I finally decided to make some defensive spearmen to use as northern spearmen (WOR) Castilian/Portuguese defensive spearmen, Hungarians etc. Offensive spearmen seems no problem as I use pikes bases in shallow or mixed bases BGs . But how to represent defensive spearmen baffled ...

Trastamara Spanish

From 1497 to 1502 there must be an equal number of BG of pikemen, S&B, and missilemen. Do the Italy Special campaign BGs ( i.e Galician volunteers or Landsknecht BGs,both types, heavy & light) qualify as pike and missilemen BG for this purpose? Thanks in advance.

Battle Wagons

I want to paint some battle wagons. Are them really useless? As some people say. What Army for the late medieval period? (I also will like to use them with FOGR)

Re: Distances when using 28mm

We have try all of them and ended with 1MU=3.33cm. It will look odd but is not, if you think of it as 10cm=3MU (I take the idea of the diagram of page 46 of the original FoG, by the way). We play on a 240cmx152cm table and it works fine. We converted an old tape easily painting red lines between 3.3...

In general I agree to that, but it left open the question of interpenetrating the triarii. In practice we have solved it with: “If you stop bothering with those triarii I promise to look the other way when you bypass them” But the triarii can be bypassed when in rout. If they are a 2 base BG ...

The problem with the Mid-republican army is a practical one. A consular army had a front of 40 maniples and a deep of 3 (4 with velites). For a total of 160 units. Even a single legion means 40 maniples. We have only 24 BG, so I have my beautiful Republicans displayed in their chequerboard formation...

Well I think we know, Polybius and Livy tell us. Hastati and Principles interchange they lines in combat. It has been argued that that could not be done in front of the enemy, but that is a modern statement. Ancient authors are clear about it, they find it so natural that didn’t think necessary to g...

A more easy and historical solution to give Impact foot the edge is now lacking is to allow Impact foot to Break off combat, so it can charge again next turn. That’s how they fight historically, charging and if that did not disrupt the enemy formation falling back regrouping and charging again. The ...

If this is a way to avoid swarm armies, namely the Dominate Swarm, a better solution would be to limit the army break point to a smaller maximum limit (even smaller than 16). What I have read in this forum from more experienced players than I, is that the problem with these armies, is the difficult...

As I agree with the whole concept I think that having all bases that excess the minimum size of the BG in the list (at least 4) at half cost will be enough by now. In fact we are going to incorporate that on our “Home made Rules” from now , to see how it works.
