Re: is this game worse than pike and shot?

Really, they're both fantastic games. Get whichever setting interests you more. You'll probably get addicted and end up with both anyway.

Re: Heavy weapon vs armour in Keils

So, why do swordsmen's get +POA against non-steady Pike, but heavy weapons don't? Isn't the idea similar, that a collapsing formation can be exploited by troops armed with shorter melee weapons?

Re: Heavy weapon vs armour in Keils

Okay that makes sense. I couldn't tell because the tool tips didn't say anything about heavy weapon, but I suppose I could tell by seeing what the enemy unit's armour bonus was.

I also wasn't seeing a heavy weapon melee bonus listed; is that bonus only against non keils?

Heavy weapon vs armour in Keils

I've been doing a fair number of skirmishes with Bow and Bill/Elizabethan foot formations. I'm confused as to why opposing infantry formations (either pike keils or early pike and shot) are still benefiting from armour in melee. Do the heavy weapons not get their metal smashing bonus against keils? ...

Replay ability

Probably more an idea for the next product than Pike and Shot, but what about the ability to save replays of battles? We could learn from our mistakes, glory in our victories, and more easily produce AARs of our battles. Any possibility of that coming into being in the next game?

Re: About Ashigaru

Well, it depends who you are facing. Against cavalry, rough terrain or trees are sufficient. Against ranged infantry - it depends. Ashigaru archers are no better in melee, so you can move forward without support and mow them down. Samurai archers are trained swordsmen and will cut down your teppo in...

Re: Can the unit files be changed?

I think the cavalry is fine; after all, it can fall back two spaces, and tends to withdraw after impact with infantry. It's true that it has trouble consistently catching light foot, but it's not a big deal. Their zoc can be ignored anyway, and their firepower isn't enough to be an immediate problem...

Anyone beat this one on Daimyo? I've beaten all the other scenarios in both campaigns, all but one on the first try, but this one... Your forces are scattered. You are outnumbered 2-1. The quality of your troops isn't any better than the enemy. How do you win? I know that, historically, the Takeda c...

Re: Discussion on Battle of Pyongyang

I found this to be the easiest mission, also on daimyo. I got all matchlocks. Lined the wall with bows and guns, with yari samurai a couple tiles behind each gate, where the fortifications are weaker. I kept my other troops under cover, hiding in the town and in the square of light fortifications. T...

Re: Is it even possible to win Tenryu in open battle?

Would it be possible in the campaign for the ai not to attack if it is defending a province? As the things stand, the player can always fight a defensive battle, which is pretty advantageous.

Re: Pursuits on Horseback

Elite troops still have a good chance of holding their ground against raw troops if they get flanked. Disruption leaves them less vulnerable than raw troops disrupted in a similar situation.

Personally, I very much like the game the way it is, and wouldn't have it any other way; you are of course entitled to your own opinion, but I don't think the game needs fixing.

Nothing major, but I noticed in the Qing 1636-1700 army list; the cost 18 Matchlock Skirmishers seem to actually have bows (Capability: Bow). I'm not sure if this is present in other lists, but I suspect that it is...

Warriors vs Medium Foot

Do medium foot have any advantages over warriors? Warriors can move 3 spaces, and can charge cavalry. Do, for example, later Yari Ashigaru have anything to recommend them over the earlier warrior types? The tables in the manual make it seem possible that medium foot are more resistant to cavalry cha...

Re: Matchlocks vs Warriors

I think whether or not it happens in Pike and Shot isn't as noticeable because Warrior units are rather uncommon; most infantry is mixed or medium foot. But in SOTS, there are large numbers of Warrior types, making the interplay between the two types more vital to the balance of the game.
